Though it appears there's another similar bill in the works (that probably won't pass either).

Yeah, PIPA is still alive and well. I think they were hoping they could dark-horse it through while we were all angry about SOPA.

Wikipedia will still black out on Wednesday in protest to PIPA.

I plan on blacking out my site for the day as well.

Reddit will also be doing a black out (I'm pretty sure they were the first) and I know there are others.

I blacked out  my site today, wrote to my Congressmen, and called my senators this morning.  If either of my senators votes in support of PIPA, I will do everything I can to get them out of office.

What's interesting to me is that the last time a bill came up that was going to impact my internet use (in that case, shutting down internet streaming radio), I did call my representatives as well.  Due to overwhelming feedback from constituents, the bill died in committee and hasn't been brought back since.

I'm glad that SOPA has been stopped.  But I think they were going to slide PIPA in, under the rug, when everyone was upset about SOPA.  The fight's not over yet.

SOPA has not been stopped, it got taken off the shelf as fast as it got put on it. It was all over Reddit yeterday, SOPA is back.

Sickly, there are still too many senators in support of both bills. Even one is too many.

But there are those that are backing down and starting to see the light.

There is hope, but we have to keep fighting and telling Congress we will NOT stand for SOPA or PIPA.

I've blacked out my journal on DeviantART, as well as my icon there, my icon on Facebook and Twitter, blacked out my art blog on Tumblr, my Etsy shop, my LiveJournal layout them and icon, and kinda sorta my journal on FA.

I wrote to my state representative. I'm really hoping that both SOPA and PIPA are stopped, that they don't get passed.

Yay Congress does something right for once. I honestly think the concept behind SOPA is a good one but they were running way too far with said concept.

I understand to a degree there are certain things that should never be on the internet, I won't mention what I have in mind, but I am sure you would all agree with me.

However, censoring copyrighted material ect. is just not going to happen, there goes the internet. Think of it this way, even this site, to some degree would fall under copyright issues due to it not being owned by the original creator / owner of my little pony. Really, everything would suffer and there would probably be no more need for the internet. What a bunch of idiots.

Thankyou Eternia for posting that video - it clears a lot of things up for me.

So am I right in understanding - technically they could take Facebook down for having too many people having their photos taken outside of Maccy Ds, because they are showing the logo in the photos and don't own the copyright? They could take down Youtube for showing old MLP adverts? They could take down the Arena because we take photos of ponies we don't own the copyright to? How serious could this theoretically be?  :what:

SOPA is not gone its just been postponed, another one to watch is ACTA which is basically the international version of SOPA which will effect every one, not just the people from the US.

All I have to say to them is good luck trying to send 85% of the world to jail for copyright issues. With the economy as bad as it is, they've had to let ex-cons among several other REAL law breakers run free throughout the streets because prisons can't afford to keep inmates.

So they think they can detain at least 85% of the world's population for posting screen caps of copyrighted works in internet blogs because the blog author loves certain copyrighted concepts so much?

I think the government not only needs to be more realistic, but they need to think about MORE SERIOUS ISSUES. Maybe they just have too much time on their hands... but even that's mind-boggling.... with the economy as bad as it is, how could they even have the time to sit and think of these things. It's laughable.

But yeah all mlp customs/art/photos would be subject to this, as well. And there goes our creative innovation.
