Restoring Pretty Parlour?
« on: June 05, 2012, 03:46:10 PM »
Hello, everypony!

Forgive me; I can't find a thread about restoring playsets.  I have a G1 Pretty Parlour acquired when I was but a lass, and time and sitting in storage in the basement have morfed its original colours to a stunning shade of blech.  (I will edit to post a photo once I figure out how to  .) I'd eventually like to get it up and useful as a display for my favourite old G1s.

So... I was looking at all the pony restorations and wondering if anypony's had luck with revitalizing old, discoloured, hard-done-by playsets?  And if so, what steps did you all take?

Thank you so much!

I havent personally done it - as I tend to avoid chemicals out of paranoia [but thats just me!] - but I have seen people report lots of success with hydrogen peroxide on both white and colour playsets in the past. These threads have some great advice - just be careful when using it and remember to clean the set as completely as possible after using the HP as it can still "work" after you think its gone and often over exposure I believe can make some plastics  brittle but it certainly brightens up old plastic!

Those links are great. It's been used for years in other collecting hobbies, and so far there hasn't been any reports of brittle plastic, but only time will tell.

Any yes, definately clean it off well.

My Pretty Parlour is very yellowed so I'll be interested to see if this works for you.   I was going to try the peroxide cream this week but work isn't going to allow for it.   All the best with your parlour!!!
