1982 or 2008 cotton candy?
« on: September 03, 2013, 04:17:42 PM »
How do you tell a 25th anniversary pony from an origional? I just picked up a cotton candy from a thrift store thinking it was one of the anniversary set but I`m not sure. Her hair and body are both a bubble gum pink and her feet are concave and have 1982 on them. The pictures of the anniversary Cotton Candy seems to have a lighter body than the hair. Whats on the anniversary cotton candies feet?

Sounds like you have the vintage Cotton Candy to me.  Only the vintage one has 1982 on the feet.  Also the reproduction's body is super hard and the hair is not as nice quality and it's also hot pink. :)

I also belive that the repros have 2007 stamped under their feet.

The anniversary ones have flat feet, so that automatically makes your an 80s pony. :) There are flat-footed Cotton Candies, of course; the six original ponies were all released with flat feet first.

The 2008 re-releases tend to have VERY drastic color differences. My Cotton Candy has insanely hot pink hair that the old releases never had.

As for what's actually on her feet:

I'll put something here some time

Yes the easiest way to tell apart is the 2007 stamp on the mould :) Sounds like you have an original girl very cool!

The new ones have 2007 on the bottom.  I ran into that issue with a Moonstone that I found at Once Upon a Child.  Also, the 2007's bodies are a lot harder.

The 2007 ones feel nothing like the originals. They have less hair, are smaller, and are made of a very hard plastic with no give.

Agree with everyone else. Old ponies have 1982 on them, 25th anniv have 2007 and vivid hair colours.
(I've never understood why no one else wants her. I've picked her up cheap a few times. She's so pretty!)

And the newer ones don't like to stand very well. All of the ones that I have had before were always falling on there faces.

Throw them against a window. If it shatters the window, it's a 2007. :lmao:

Also while they are both flat footed, the repro ones are completely smooth on the bottom of the foot. Original FF's had the foot bottom divided with a ring, most likely to mimic horseshoes.

True but can also work for an older pony who's lost her plasticizer! Those gals can double as lethal weapons!

This! Along with the 2007 foot stamp. And not being able to stand up well. All of the 07 reissues I had, featured thinner hair plus firm bodies (almost rock like).

Hair is still wet and unstyled. In the second picture the flash makes her look lighter but both sides are the same color.

My sister spotted a repro Bluebelle at the flea market and she was practically jumping up and down, hehe. I told her to just look at the color, there was no way that was a vintage ;) Then I showed her the bottom of the feet and she was bummed she didn't find a vintage pony for me, awww. I would have gotten her excpect I already had one and this one had pink marker all over it :P

Here's pictures of the original and retro. Big difference in hair color!
