So many MMs have lost their symbols, they seem to be very easily damaged especially as they have aged. That aside, I love the poses, the hair streak and the slightly unusual colours in this set. I assume we have have never found any method to restore MM symbols to anything close to the original? If so has anyone considered 'soft' customising i.e. cleaning the tattered remains off and trying to re-paint with iether the usual or the hidden design? If so, which would you choose? Or would you come up with something else?
-
I haven't done one myself, but I saw one where the unchanged symbol was painted on one side and the changed symbol was painted on the other. Can't recall where I saw it unfortunately.
I have one of these ponies with almost no symbol left at all and I'm planning to repaint her symbols someday so I'm watching this thread for more info!

Same here! Did you know though that MM ponies have a different changed symbol on each side? This makes the choice even harder because there are 3 options.

I've heard that some people were considering trying it with heat color change paint, but dunno if they ever did.
-
That could be really nice if it works...
-
It has been done at least once. JPP (who sadly passed away) restored a Windy. Unfortunatly, the thread was on the old Arena but I found this on her customs FaceBook page.

Thats sad that she passed, and exciting to know she succeeded.
-
Cool to see you can use heat-sensitive paint!
-
Watching not just for magic Message. Nurse Ponies (from the last UK/Euro release) have heat-sensitive hearts which can become damaged as well
-
Thank you Black Curtains! That's amazing to see.

Yes, and what an amazing job she did too! That is a serious restoration. Now the bar is so much higher though!

I didn't know that about the Nurse Ponies.
-
I'm not 100 sure how she did it but I suspect she used pigments from solarcolordust.com in some kind of clear medium.
-
It says right on the photo that she used acrylics to paint the symbols then put heat change paint that changes from green to clear over it, then a top coat to protect it.
-
Well yeah but it doesn't say from where she obtained the heat change paint.

There's an Instructables article on DIY color-changing paint over here (https://www.instructables.com/Make-Your-Own-Thermocolor-Color-Change-Paint/)... it sounds like a simple enough process, and thermochromatic pigment tins are cheaper than the ready-to-use acrylics that a google search turned up. If anyone actually tries this, please be sure to share your results!

Thank you that's very cool! Maybe I will be brave and try the full restore.

Oh my...
I'm so incredibly sad to hear that. Thanks for letting me know.
Do we have a in memoriam of her somewhere where I can pay my respects? :'(

I don't really know, sorry. There was a thread in Off-Topic, but it's locked due to being old - http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,398796.0.html
I have her Facebook if you'd like me to PM it to you.

Sadly I haven't seen any thermochromatic paints (even as pigments) that turn from color to transparent :(

If anyone wants to give this a go, there are pigments that go from color to colorless on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XV7GX72/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_9YDZVN5N67XDSAFX6BF8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) (that one's a sampler) and Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/536164800/prestige-thermochromic-pigment-that?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_c-craft_supplies_and_tools-other&utm_custom1=_k_Cj0KCQjwkZiFBhD9ARIsAGxFX8AZ95YqpU-I8FWO-CS_oNUINPKC9YtT7XRkjtZSGtW_x8y5s0Gs4HkaAsnKEALw_wcB_k_&utm_content=go_12570712254_121242709124_507438944522_aud-1118323511678:pla-295462056907_c__536164800_115136543&utm_custom2=12570712254&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkZiFBhD9ARIsAGxFX8AZ95YqpU-I8FWO-CS_oNUINPKC9YtT7XRkjtZSGtW_x8y5s0Gs4HkaAsnKEALw_wcB). A pretty quick search turned up a lot of possibilities -- just be sure to read the descriptions thoroughly to avoid the pigments that change from one color to another.

Okay... I definetely have had the wrong search terms! Thank you!
For the Nurse Ponies "Red" would be the thing to go and for the Magic Message Ponies Red (Cuddles, Mirror Mirror, Magic Hat - probably a tad too red), Dark Green (Windy and Floater) and Deep Blue (Cloud Dreamer). I give them a try for sure!
-
Sorry for the tone in my post there! I only knew what to look for because of a past project. :P
-
All very handy, thank you! I'm sure a lot of us will have MMs that will need looking after.
