Making necklaces/keyrings with BBponies?
« on: August 15, 2012, 11:11:35 AM »
Hi guys, not sure whether this goes under Corral or Customs so sorry if it's in the wrong place?

Just wondering whether anyone knows how I'd go about making BB ponies into necklaces or keyrings? I've got a few I want to make into pretty things, especially a Rainbow Dash that I want to put on my work bag.

I've been poking around online but I'm not finding anything?

Cheers!

I do this. Its pretty simple for a necklace  :)

Steps:

1- Poke a hole in the head, pretty far down (I use a dental tool for this)
2- Cut an eyepin to length and load it with glue (something really strong and made for jewelry is best)
3- Stick eyepin (cut to length) in pony's head, making sure the eyepin is facing the direction you want it to
4- Add some extra glue to the top of the pony's head where the eyepin is (only a little)
5- Let dry per glue instructions
6- Attach to your necklace

Example of mine:

As for where to post this, I'd actually think maybe pony art would be best? Anyway, hope this helps you out~

Eye pins! That's what I need!

Awesome, I can get going then. Thank you!

Do you mean how to put a little hole in their head? It's actually a lot easier than you'd think. Take a sewing needle, hold it with a pair of pliers, then take a lighter and hold the needle in the flame untill you see it glow red. It'll pierce the plastice super easy and clean. You might have to do it two or three times to get it deep enough, the need cools pretty fast. After that you can insert an eyepin, but you'll want to coat it in super glue. Then just decorate with beads.

A friend of mine used to make such things with the Ponyvilles and Mc Donald's ponies, which were made of virtually the same plastic. The answer is even simpler than fooling around with heating things: eye screws. You can find them in a hardware store in a variety of sizes along with the regular screws. They'll just take a tiny bit of elbow grease and screw them in. The screw stays in place well enough that glue isn't 100% necessary (unles you over twist or remove the screw repeatedly.)

Yes the plastic is nice and soft enough to use a simple eye screw into the top of the head...I start with a hot needle to prick a target spot...then simply turn and push the screw in - unscrew and add a little sealing glue and then put the eye screw back in... viola...key chain! :)
