USPS shipping question
« on: August 02, 2013, 09:29:45 AM »
I'm wondering something about shipping a couple of small, really lightweight items to a really good friend on the arena here... its just 2 fashion style combs.
Question is, do I still need to put them into a bubble mailer or can I just  put it in a regular envelope and mail it off as if it were regular mail?
Thanks  ^.^

You could easily get away with putting them inside a greeting card and mailing them that way.

Sometimes the regular envelopes go through a sorting machine and with stuff inside it can potentially run the risk of ripping the envelope and losing the items inside.  So tape it up really good.  I always use mailers and I cut them down to size..sometimes you can find tiny mailers.  Just don't want them to get broken. I have had this happen before.

Is it within the US? I would just use a bubble mailer. Only $1.69 to print online.

I bought bubble mailers in bulk once so that's what I usually use but I just recently had someone send me the plastic body shape that holds Monster High fashion packs clothes in a greeting card. It came through fine. If a card envelope is too bulky or weird shaped there is a higher chance of it getting caught in a machine and ripped open. Bubble mailers are safest but the greeting card route can certainly be done.

Just wanted to throw in there that when I lived in the US I mailed pony wear to several people inside greeting cards with no issues. One was even mailed to Canada and arrived just fine. ;)

If you do this though, I would make sure you tape the item in place inside the card, and tape the envelope closed, just for added safety. If it was like a super rare item, I might not risk it. But if it's just for a couple G4 combs, I'd say go for it!

I would mail it in one of those itsy-bitsy bubble envelopes - they make them just a bit bigger than gift cards.  :)

It's probably best to mail them in a small bubble mailer.  You can put them in an envelope as long as it's not thicker than 1/4 inch ... otherwise, they will charge you a package rate.  Also, it costs more to ship a letter with a rigid object inside than it does to ship a normal letter.
