Smaller ponies or bigger ponies?
« on: October 07, 2023, 01:11:59 PM »
Hello everyone,

There are so many ponies in all shapes and sizes. The 'usual', if you will, small blind bag ones and even big plushies.

I personally like the regular g1 size, the slightly bigger secret surprise g1 and the smaller g1 summer/windy wings. They are so cute and fit in the palms of your hands.

I like the build a bear plushies who are bigger and the g3 ponyville figures I have recently started collecting.

What are your thoughts? Any sizes you like/dislike? I would love to hear it. All gens are welcome :)

I think G3 are the perfect sized ponies.

My ideal pony size is G1 or G3 size. Not too big or too small. I prefer smaller ponies to be babies (or different smaller types of ponies such as wingers) compared to small sized ponies just being the default like in G4 and G5. While small ponies are nice for space efficiency, I feel like it simultaneously probably makes it harder to make the quality as nice. And I feel like hair is much harder to tame on smaller ponies than on larger ones.

I'm with everybody here. G1/G3 is a perfect size of Pony for an adult. G4 Fashion Style is an ok size too. G5 6 inch is a bit too big, while 3 inches (G4 & G5) is too small & what I'd call Baby size.

Why are the perfect size Ponies perfect??? They fit in the hand, are big enough to be detailed without being total space-hoggers (any plushie collector knows how quickly a plushie collection can take over space), they can fit into dollhouses of 1/12 scale, they can use fashion doll food & accessories, & they can have most standard animal toys (LPS, Schleich, In My Pocket to name a few) as pets. As others have said, it's also a great size for hairstyles.
From a crafter's point of view, this size of Pony is great for making clothing & hats for. They look good on this size of Pony, while still being manageable. On smaller Ponies fabrics & knitted garments give too much bulk & look awkward, unless you go for fiddly thin stuff. And forget Velcro & press studs on G4s!!!
My Mascots (so far): Twisty Tail, G2 Trixiebelle, Starcatcher, Twilight Sparkle. All variants & pictures of these are appreciated. Piccies courtesy of Griffin, Blumiere, Littlebabyribbon, & Starscout

This is a hard call.  As a kid, G1 baby ponies were perfect for carrying around in your pocket.  The larger ponies were better for hugging and braiding tails.

i like all of them. i don't really collect plushies or the ponies larger than the G1 adults because of space constraints. if i had a dedicated pony room i would collect all sizes.

I like smaller. They are easier to photograph for me and to display.
Regular size G4 are my main collection an my favorites.

Standard G1/G3 are the ideal size! I don't mind ponies that are a little smaller (say, Flutter Ponies and G2s) but I'm not a fan of ponies as small as (or smaller than) standard G4s.

for display purposes i love standard g4s because of how easy they are to put next to each other on my shelf and you can fit a lot of them in one spot, but i do love the size of my g1 and g3 ponies.

I love g1 (esp g1 baby size) then g4 adults.

G3.5 large size are absolutely clunky & cumbersome.  :X

It's hard to say... I love G1/G3 size but I also love how G2/G4 don't take up much space, that way you can fit more on a shelf! :P Plus I love the teeny little ponies like Dollymix, World's Smallest, etc. So I guess I don't really have a preference either way.

Oh, except that I'm not a big fan (heh, no pun intended) of ponies bigger than G1s. Like the Styling G3s, G4zillas, etc. I'm not against ponies that size, I have a few, but I wouldn't want them to be the main size.
