NEW pony care idea I have been trying out!
« on: April 03, 2012, 05:50:36 PM »
I tested armor-all  like what is used on cars on a g1 pony 3 months ago.
here are my results
armor all removed deep seated dirt from pony very well, should protect against fading, drying out of the plastic and cracking.(because it does in cars that are sitting out in the sun)and aging
gave pony a like new kinda plastic shine. used in hair(use a tiny amount!!) made it easier to comb out tangles, gave the hair a very nice shiny look . after 3 months she still looks the same, no side effects from the armor all was found.
so over all the test worked out very well! try it out on your trouble ponies and post the results!
if you use it in your ponies hair use a tiny amount! like 1 drop to start with! used it on my paradise estate roof. gave it a like new, bright shine!cool! seems to make old plastic look new again!

what kind of pony did you test this on, what color?
Did you document it with photographs?

I would love to see some before and after photos. I have had some problems with this product on clear plastic products so this is interesting.

How did it go over the paint? Or did you avoid the eyes and symbols?

it did not hurt the paint ,it needs to be further tested though

This is interesting, I never even thought of this... I'm sure it works magic on playsets, because its a harder plastic... i think i'll try it on a baity pony and see what happens.

Oh I'm not surprised it worked!  Armour All is basically a plastic "conditioner".

It's used to treat American Girl doll hair, so why not ponies?  :D

it works very well on the hair, just use a drop or 2! you don't want soppy wet pony hair!

Awesome! Does it work well against pindot?  I'd really like to spruce up my childhood Sugarberry....

Hot water and soap are all you need to clear up pindot, that and some patience. =3
(okay, and a little elbow grease, but that never hurt anyone!)

I've tried this method and, unfortunately, it didn't make a lick of difference.  :/  That's why I was asking about pindot here.

Just a little note about using Armor all - it's great for vinyl surfaces and cleaning but it can also cause problems if you ever want to repaint something. I work at a sign shop where we paint and letter things and any kind of waxes or cleaning products (such as armor all) have to be completely removed. Armor all can penetrate into vinyl and can be impossible to remove so it can cause issues if you're going to do any kind of customizing.

An example I've come in contact with is,We had a customer bring in a tire covers that they want customized and decals and paint will not stay on because they've used armor all on the vinyl product before bringing it in to get customized. Even after intensive cleaning with various products the armor all was just imbedded into the surface.

So I just want to put that out there in case people are planning on doing actual cleaning of bate ponies for customizing, I'd hesitate on using armor all if you plan on making custom ponies.
Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.
