I need these temptations out of my house before I use these unused ribbons.
Would it be a SIN to open these ribbons?
I hate to open these if someone out there collects ribbons like these, but I prefer to tie my ribbons around the tails, so I am very tempted to remove these and use them... They came in lot labeled- do these labels look accurate?
The Quackers ribbon is sealed in a package unlike the others.
Are unused ribbons worth more than used ones? I would be happy to trade any of these for the loose version (or princess ribbons)
Finally if anyone wants to upload these photos to the Wiki (or keep them for reference) please do it!

I collect the ribbons like that! I've only ever payed $1 each for them though.
-
I think you should go ahead and use them. I'm unaware of much interest in NIP ribbons. If the ribbon was still with the puffy sticker in the little plastic pouch, then yes, I'd leave it alone. But loose I think you're good.
Moondancer's ribbon looks awfully white--it's supposed to be pale blue! Do you think it's faded or just a very pale dye lot? I collect ribbons and love these! But like you, I prefer them on the pony :)
-
I thought so too about the Moondancer one- it looks pretty white to me as well. Like I said I was skeptical myself, so this is also a request for verifying the labels that were on them.
Glad to hear that no one finds shame in using them!

butterflybuttons said she collects ribbons like that. ;D So I'd say you may have interest after all. They sure do look pretty...

Personally I think ribbons are the one thing that you are fine opening...at the end of the day they are already out of their mib/moc packaging and as long as you keep a note of whose ribbons they are [easily done by putting them on the right pony] whats the harm? They are your ribbons and you should be able to do whatever you please with them - I agree they look much cuter on the ponies themselves than in the little plastic wrap.
Whether they are worth more that way than loose...I honestly couldnt tell you...simply as I have always paid about the same for both loose and in their little packing wrap...hopefully someone more knowledgeable on ribbon lore can help...

At a ponycon 2 years ago I sold loose ribbons for £1 and mip like that for £2 and had plenty of takers.
Hope that helps

I'm sure I won't have any problem getting rid of them. My big concern I guess is removing/ using them, but I guess no one seems to think it is a big deal- thanks for the insight!

Off topic...but Happy Birthday Chip!!!!

I have Moondancer MOC & her ribbon is definitely light blue, not white. I think Cherries Jubilee had a more lime green ribbon. Unless my monitor colors are off, the ribbon pictured looks like a mint green. I don't have a MOC to compare, but my childhood CJ has had the same lime green ribbon tied on her tail for as long as I can remember.

hm... googling around i actually see mostly yellow for CJ, and possibly chartreuse...

Yeah, that's definitely not CJ's ribbon. It's more of a yellowish lime green. I can't think of who it goes to, but it's such a lovely color... It might be Swirly Whirly's, but it looks darker than hers.
-
I've always thought Windy's ribbon (if we're talking Year 2 Windy) was more the basic yellow than the orange tint of the one above. I agree about CJ's ribbon--it is more of a chartreuse color. Firefly's looks right; I think Year 2 Cotton Candy also came with that color or very close to it. Parasol also looks correct, but it's hard to tell!

Most of the early ponies had matching ribbons and brushes?
Anyone know what ponies did not have ribbons that matched brushes?- actually that might be a question that has too many to list.... Maybe a better question: What year did the ribbons stop matching the combs/ brushes?
I know Mimic stands out in my mind has hiving an yellowy orange ribbon and Light pink brush, actually I think that all the TEs had different color brushes and ribbons?
Any idea which pony that yellow w/ orange tint ribbon might go to then?

note about the early ribbons.
Blues and Greens. the blue part of the dye fades SO easily. SO VERY easily. I've seen plenty of cherries with completely faded blue out of the green ribbons, so only the yellow is left.
The 84 version of Cherries has a yellow-Green ribbon. But, I am unsure about the SS version of her. I have the SS Cherries MOC, her ribbon is completely yellow. I don't know if it was supposed to be that way, faded, or is an error. I also got a complete SS cherries with all accessories matched to another collector's MOC (from hudsonpelican on ebay), her MOC also had a yellow ribbon.
So, while Moondancer is a light blue, and the original NSS Cherries should be a more yellow-green the actual shades will vary. A lot of cherries ribbons will turn yellow, and moondancer's almost white.
Chip-
Off the top of my head, 1983- with the sea ponies.
1984 almost all the sets. Example, Posey: blue butterfly brush, green ribbon.
Looking at the labeled picture, there are a couple errors. the MIP you have for Quackers came with an 87 or later pony, and the golden one looks like it could be Rainbow Curl Ringlets. Cherries ribbon should be wider, and more of a yellow green.
-
Yes, Year 1 & 2 are the years where the ribbons match the combs/brushes (with the exception of the sea ponies). Year 3 they rarely match--Sparkler has a dark pink ribbon w/ a white moon comb, Heart Throb has a light blue ribbon, with a chartreuse moon comb, etc.--and as far as I know Hasbro never matched them after that.
Fantastic Firefly is right that the blue and green ribbons seem especially prone to changing color. Bubbles' ribbon is supposed to be light green, but it often just looks yellow. And you can imagine how bad Bubbles looks with a *yellow* ribbon!

I want them!!! I WANT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait . . . I guess that wasn't very helpful.
Seriously though, I'm sooooo jealous. I LOVE original ribbons and I'm buyin' if you're sellin'.
. . . still not very helpful.
