Even if you dont have enough entries, you can still make a larger quilt by bordering the squares with smaller ones and maybe making a pretty pattern out of one.

Or a checkerboard of pony squares next to patterned squares, that's not a bad idea.

Quick question, are the squares 18x18, including the .5" of wiggle room, or are the squares 18.5x18.5 and we just leave part of it blank?

Also, will we get a sneak peak of the designs before the quilt is assembled, or will it be a surprise?

I assumed that the .5 was included in the square, so leave that .5 free of your design.

The .5 margin is included in the 18". Don't leave it totally blank and white (if you're painting), but definitely don't let your design stray into that area. Does that make sense? Blend any backgrounds into that area, in case my seams aren't exactly half an inch all around. We don't want to see random white borders. But if a tail or something goes past the margin, it will likely be eaten up by the seams.

If everyone wants to post their designs, that is totally fine. I'm so excited to see what everyone makes!

Do we need to make any effort to make our general color schemes match among the squares? I was planning to use mainly pastels, but could do brighter colors if desired.
