How to tag ponies for vending (without ruining them?)
« on: February 25, 2019, 03:29:31 PM »
Hi guys, when you're selling ponies at a real-life venue, how do you stick a price tag on them without risk to the pony?  I'm going to be at the Washington State Toy Show.  I thought about writing the price on sticker-tags, but I don't know that I want sticker residue on the ponies?  Is there a better way?

Also, do you use risers in your displays and if so where do you get them?  I'm going to have an 8' x 8' table.  (Which I might be splitting with a friend, in which case I'll have . . . 4' x 8' of space, lol.)

I personally haven't tagged ponies myself, but a seller at a local toy show I occasionally go to tags her ponies with strung marking tags. The tags are just tied around the ponies' necks and it's easy to remove and doesn't damage the pony. I've seen them at Hobby Lobby in packs of 100 for less than $5.

i recommend string tags or plastic bags :) ink/marker can easily bleed through stickers to the plastic underneath ...

I've never sold any ponies, but at the antique mall I go to, the person who has ponies there puts a string around their necks with the price tags hanging off of those!

The nicest price tagging I’ve seen had tags with holes. Instead of a string, they used ribbon, and tied the ribbon into a really cute tail bow.

There are all sorts of tags available. Check amazon for “price tag with hole”.
Here’s a fancy one:

Yeah stringed tags for sure ...I always cover whatever ink u use with tape because you don't want it to transfer to ponies...I have seen that happen before 😁

!!!

This is such a good idea!  Ink was definitely something I was worried about!

I love those string tags with the hearts punched in them, too!

This is what I would have suggested. You could also put a larger card in front of ponies with the same price if you have them grouped together to help people quickly see the price of those ponies, while still having the tag around the neck.

Little white tags, punched with a hole and threaded with white string or white ribbon (white to minimise any colour transfer, tags made out of acid-free card if you want to be super-careful). As bought in bulk on-line or in stores, as mentioned above.

Putting a laminating layer of tape over the inked pricing, as mentioned above, is a good idea too! Plus it stops sneaky folks tampering with the price  I have seen those little circles of tape, approx 1 inch diameter, used for securing wrapped gifts, one of those stuck over the pricing should keep things safe!

You can make your own tags with a paper punch, using your own regular or acid-free card (journaling + scrap-booking craft suppliers should be able to point you towards the right stuff!)

"E.K. Success" do a whole range of large paper punches, or if you know anyone who deals with "Stampin' Up" they have a lovely selection too, rectangular fancy labels, ovals, circles etc. or look on Ebay for second-hand ones.

As for risers, that would be a good idea to elevate your stock from the back, if they are too expensive to buy, make some out of cereal boxes and cover them in plain fabric (that's what I would do!)

I use string tags and I write on them with pencil.

I'd say either write a price on a tag and loop it around their neck, or group them together behind a standing price tag.

I like to use the pre-made string tags, cover ink with tap, then tie around the top of the tails rather than the pony’s neck.
