Title: What’s the way to modify a doll body
Post by: bright rabbit 1 on January 25, 2022, 04:39:09 AM
I need to modify some Barbie bodies and I’m wondering what would be good to do the modifications. Leela (Doctor Who custom doll I’m working on) needs some help. Her top body area.

Apoxie Sculp or Air Drying Clay

I don't know anything about dolls but maybe an Exact-o knife? I'm going to move this to the Dollhouse for you, you'll probably get more answers there :)

Will apoxie sculpt or air drying clay be better to modify the top area.

It really depends on what you want to do. Both have their uses.

May I suggest a youtuber named Dollightful?  She's one of the best doll customizers I know of. Her videos are full of really good information. She's got some very good apoxie sculpting tutorials also.

I use apoxie sculpt on dolls, and use tools such as a saw, utility knife or dremmel (otherwise known as a rotary tool) to make cuts when needed.
Air dry clay is good, but it can dry and leave cracks between itself and the plastic, or pop off. You can glue it back on though. Air dry clay also takes 2-3 days to harden and dry completely, opposed to the 1 day curing time of apoxie.
I also second having a look at dollightful, since she makes several dolls with modifications and sculpted parts. Maybe hextian and dollmotion as well, since they also do a fair bit of sculpting.

Looks like I’ve got to get more apoxie sculpt her cheats area, luckily I’ve got acrylic paint that makes the skin tone.

Trouble with Hextian I don’t watch his videos anymore, I could also watch Doll Geek (if he’s still around YouTube).
