Oh my gosh! I had those Jasman animals in your last picture, and I had totally forgotten about them until now! Also I'm wondering if you know what the LPS knock-offs you have on the right side of the carry case are called? I had the cat set as a kid, and I've been wondering for years what they were!

Anyway, your LPS sets look really great! I don't know how you managed to hold onto all those back cards and keep the toys themselves in such great shape! I have the Jogging Gerbils set, too (one of the first ones I got), and the playset is totally cracked and discolored and the paper bedding is long, long gone. :P

That sounds really exciting! I've never lived on a boat long-term (probably just 2 weeks at the longest), but my parents are sailors, and every summer of my childhood was spent on the boat and just generally by the water. Of course, as a kid, I often had my ponies with me - they've been exposed to so much salt water and salt air! I don't think they suffered any damage because of it (they did suffer damage due to lots of play and rough brushing, but that's unrelated!). I think that main thing you'd have to worry about is sun exposure. Also, in my own experience, my hair becomes impossibly tangled when it gets coated with salt (even just from the air!), so if you like to brush your ponies' hair, it might be good to wash them with fresh water beforehand to avoid frizzing problems from tangles.

I love seeing pictures of people's collections, so this thread has been awesome to look through! I have been collecting for years, but I keep my collection small by choice. I do wish I had nicer shelves, though - for now I make do with an ugly metal Ikea bookshelf. :P

(Apologies for the not-so-great photo quality; it's impossible to get good lighting in that room.)

In terms of pure grime, these two that I got last summer were probably the dirtiest ponies I've had:

But they cleaned up really well!

In my experience, it seems like the ponies who have this thick film of grime on them are often really nice underneath. It's like the dirt layer is shielding them from other damage! :P

I'm SO glad you're happy with the painting! Aw, thanks for posting a brag about it - and I see it's in your sig, too! Gosh, I feel so honored!

Pony Corral / Re: Question: Cleaning Sundae Best ponies.
« on: March 10, 2013, 10:20:10 AM »
You can go ahead and clean her, no worries! The scent is mixed into the plastic (of the whole pony, not just the symbol), so it can't be simply washed away. I've given Sundae Best ponies thorough scrubbings with scented products, and the product scent disappears almost immediately afterwards and the pony's scent remains.

Wow, congrats on finding all those ponies! And a G1 from a thrift shop is always exciting these days! They look like they'll clean up well. (By the way, there was never any repro version of Lemondrop - only the original six and the first set of rainbow ponies).

Off Topic / Re: Need help identifying some horse toys please!

The "Bunny Picnic" item is from a Bunny in my Pocket set - the same toy line as Puppy in my Pocket. NoPonySpecial is right that it came with a family of gray bunnies. Though actually... I believe that particular playset was part of yet another In My Pocket set (so, same toy line but not technically Bunny in my Pocket, confusingly enough!) that was a series of wild animal families with a surprise number of babies. I wish I had all my old IMP pamphlets with me so that I could check, but they're all in my closet at my parents' house.

Anyway, short answer: "______ in my Pocket" line of toys for the picnic thing!

Pony Corral / Re: Most discolored pony ever?

The purple dye seems to leech out of some of the older ponies quite easily, and it looks like Sealight has taken so many baths that she lost all of her color! My Sealight is losing color in her body as well, while her head remains normally colored... I noticed the color loss happening when I was washing her a while back. But the one in the auction lost her dye so evenly, she actually looks kind of pretty in her new color!

I have SS Magic Star, but I like this version better, and she's been on my want list for a while! I never understood why this pose is so disliked, because it's actually one of my favorites! Green and yellow is one of my favorite pony color combos, as well.

Pony Corral / Re: How do you tell the difference...

I know that MO Blossom is a more pinkish color, whereas the store version is the regular lavender color. I think the others may have slight color differences too, but I don't know off the top of my head!

I'm going to echo what others have said and say that it's probably best to sell them as-is, rather than buying replacement hair. The good news about this situation is that the birthflowers aren't super valuable, so no great harm has been done. In the future, I'd advise you to keep the tail clamps in place. In my experience, it's only the washers that rust, not the clamps (and if the clamps appear rusty, it's usually rust that came from the washers and adhered to the clamps). To remove tail rust, I take the washer off the tail, work some toothpaste and water into the rusty hair, and then wash the tail with shampoo. That usually takes care of the problem. :)

Pony Corral / Re: Etsy G1 colorforms?

I didn't buy the one on Etsy, but I have a Colorforms-type set that I've had for years. It's Danish, and the funny thing about it is almost all the ponies are different colors than they should be.

Oh my gosh, I'm so flattered that you posted a brag just for mini Sugarberry! I'm SO glad you're pleased with her! Thanks for making my day!

I'd like to see pictures one day of these supposedly successfully-saved curls.

Here's one of the ones that I did, following the process I described before. All those curls in her mane are original, I didn't re-do anything!

I wonder if the trick (other than cold water) is to comb the hair only while the conditioner is in? I can imagine that the curls might fall apart a bit if they were to be combed after the hair was patted dry. Hmm.
