Customs / Re: smooth painted on white, is it possible?
« on: February 01, 2018, 06:11:36 AM »
My go-to for white paint is Createx airbrush opaque white. Not sure if you've tried that yet? I believe it is still sold at Hobby Lobby, but you can also buy it online at a lot of places. Airbrush paint is already a thinner consistency and is highly pigmented. And then it's just the old tried and true advice - lots of thin coats and making sure it has time to fully dry between each coat.

Another thing to consider if you're just wanting to get your toes wet with customization would be an Obitsu. They are vinyl bodied like barbie (and the 27cm size can wear a lot of barbie clothes) but are very articulated. There are 2 kinds of head otions for them. You can either do a blank vinyl head (again like barbie) that you'd have to paint all the features on, or you can do a head with eye holes that you would fit removable eyes into (closer to the look of a BJD.) They're very affordable - the bodies range from $18-$30 ish for the 27cm size and heads are generally around $15-$20.

My first BJD was my soom teenie centaur and she was right around $400 if I remember correctly. I remember freaking out about how much money that was. I've bought a lot of dolls since - some cheaper, some a lot more expensive. It's still a lot of money to justify spending, but I enjoy it so I feel it's worth it.

The dinosaur actually came out of a quarter machine :D

I havent figured out where to store it yet. Hopefully when my craft room/office/nerdcave is actually done I'll be able to find a spot.

Good timing - I just finished a doll room for my pukifee a little before christmas! I've had all of the supplies sitting around for a couple of years actually, it just took me ages to finally sit down and put everything together.

My other new addition is Lupin. He's a Narin classic/N401 head on a limho body. I've been wanting a Narin for a while now and feel very lucky to own this guy as he's one of the first releases of this doll and is about 11-12 years old.

I have 3 other boys incoming, including my first SD size doll. Things are a little crazy in my doll collecting at the moment haha.

Heck yes. I told my artist that he shouldn't look young and fresh faced and she really delivered.

I'm SCREAMING over here. I just got finished faceup pics for my dollshe grant philippe and he is amaaaazing. His head is really small so this level of detail and realism is really blowing me away.

For reference here is the size of his head

The Dollhouse / Re: Has anyone here made/sculpted dolls?
« on: November 15, 2017, 07:23:08 AM »
If you want a high quality air dry product that doesn't shrink when it dries you're going to want to work with an 2-part epoxy clay of some kind. My personal choice is Apoxie Sculpt made by Aves. https://www.avesstudio.com/shop/apoxie-sculpt/ It holds detail very well, is a very smooth texture, and dries rock hard. It's frequently used in the BJD community for repairs and modifications. Aves also makes a couple other 2-part products like Apoxie Clay and Fixit Sculpt - both of which are supposed to be good also, but I have never personally used them so I can't speak to their performance.

*sigh* I hate waiting. I especially hate waiting when a seller is being uncommunicative.

Personally I'd use super glue to fix her head back on :)

Love pkw xxx
Ditto this. There's definitely enough contact area for super glue.

Customs / Re: Mountain Boy Symbols
« on: October 08, 2017, 01:31:42 PM »
Trouble is both sites don't have the actual symbol showing, unlike the other boy ponies. Tried looking on Google for the symbols also but that didn't turn up anything either.

I'm a little confused by this - the symbols are shown on the mountan boys on ponyland press and my little wiki. Or are you saying you're looking for a closeup of just the symbol?
