I love the G4 line, I love the show, and I am proud of my G4 collection.

But I do NOT want to be labeled a brony. I hate the term and it reminds me of all that has gone wrong in the MLP community lately.

I won't say anymore. As the mods said, it needs to stay civil. These are my my personal feelings of the term.

It's not right for someone to forcefully pigeonhole you. You are allowed to call yourself whatever you want.

Honestly I am just plain sick of the term.  It is a fad term in my opinion and its going to eventually tank like everything else.

THIS. Excuse the pun but people really are beating a dead horse with the brony term, you see it EVERYWHERE. Though that's what people did with nyan cat and YOLO and such. I have a feeling that in a few years the fanbase may calm down quite a lot, similar to how at one point there was Twilight merch EVERYWHERE you looked and nowadays (at least here) it's kind of nonexistant outside of Hot Topic.

It did start as a term for males who were fans (bro + pony anyone?). But now, it seems everyone who is a fan of ponies is automatically a brony, for some odd reason.

This is something that has definitely confused me over the progression of the FiM fanbase. I'm not a boy, therefor not a bro + pony XD I like the term pegasisters, not that I would call myself that, but I think it's cute.

Basically. It is friggin obnoxious to have someone inform you of your identity no matter what the situation. I love FiM and own a lot of merch, and I still don't call myself a brony because I don't like it. Your friend should respect your position on it. It's YOUR choice what you want to call yourself, not theirs. Honestly why is that so hard for her to figure out? Rude.

Also I feel freaked out about some Big Mac fetish she has going on... o_O what.

Her Big Mac fetish is not her only problem. She makes me die inside whenever she mentions to other people that she's a furry, for example. It makes me ashamed sometimes to admit that I'm one as well even though I'm not into all the porn and odd fetishes some of them are  :yikes:

100% agree. Also, a little off topic, but I like your Hayshire comic! Love the art XD

"Brony" is nothing more than a label and anyone can choose to accept or reject it at any given time. You are no less a fan of MLP just because you reject the label attached to it.

I get you. I also like furry, but there's a similar stigma with the term. I don't call myself a furry, but I've thought about going to a furry convention before, for example. Interestingly your topic makes me think of a topic I read on a furry site, where a member was trying to categorize another as a furry. The member said they didn't consider themselves a furry, while the first one kept copying and pasting the "definition" of a furry to "prove" how the second member was without question a furry. The interesting thing is all that that first person had to do was respect that the second didn't consider furry as part of their identity. It doesn't matter if they fit whatever "definition." That person simply chose not to embrace the term furry and wanted that to be respected. I mean, they were on a furry website posting about furry art. But they simply like that art and just don't call themselves furry--what is the big deal, you know?

A lot of people do this with other terms. Gender, orientation, etc. It's like 'well obviously you're _____ and just don't want to admit it' and it's like, Well actually, I identify differently and it'd be great if you could just respect that. I can buy as much FiM merch as I want and if I don't want to be called brony, well, don't call me one!

Your friend needs to back off.

That is exactly the kind of thing people need to avoid, PurpleCheeseStick. Getting so obsessed with something, anything, that it stops being a fun little thing and becomes a lifestyle/religion. She's needs to mellow the heck out.

It's one thing if she were talking to people who understood that when she said she wanted to date him she meant "a human guy like Big Mac" or "..if I were also a pony".  But actually being in for real obsessive love with a cartoon horse? She should talk to someone about that. That's unhealthy. (And would a quiet guy like Big Mac really WANT someone to be that obssessive over him? I'm guessing the answer is eeenope.)

Yeah... um, so I'm what went wrong with MLP?

I label myself as a Brony and all this hate for the word makes me feel like I shouldn't use it.

I've been fighting with the term myself.  I didn't want to be associated with the term when bronies would go on videos of the original cartoon and post "Kill it with friendship" or in general say how much it sucked compared to Friendship is Magic.  As a fan of the original series and liking certain ponies and episodes of it over anything Friendship is Magic has produced, I was personally insulted.

The definition of brony seems to vary depending on who you talk to.  Who's considered a brony ranges anywhere from only older male fans of Friendship is Magic to everyone who has at least a passing interest in My Little Pony as a franchise.  Therefore, I don't think it's right to force the term on someone who doesn't want to fall under its umbrella.

I have to go make my supper.

*goes to turn on a movie so all the thread occupants will be properly distracted by it*

Isn't that what a babysitter usually does? Do I get to have a free low-carb popsicle from the freezer?
