How many G1's are there???

I just want a rough estimate including the US and european runs and nirvanas...literally just rough figures please

Oh it is going to be a big number.  I'd like to know what people think.  I know there have to be at least 150 ponies in just the US releases alone.

I heard somewhere there are more than 300 characters total in the G1 release.  However, that includes everything including non-pony characters.

I dare say it'll be a lot higher than either of those figures. I think i have about 200-250 G1's and am no where near close to having all of them

In my database I have for G1
US Store Releases - 464
US Mail Order - 57
International - 129

International includes unique UK, Netherlands, and German ponies (Baby Buttons, Tales Characters, Nesthacken baby ponies, etc)  but doesn't count "Nirvana" releases of the same pony in different styles like is common for Argies, French, or for instance the NSS releases of ones released in the US (like Truly or Shady).

I should note, I don't have them all - yet  but my database has an entry for every one I know about.

I think at one point some several years back we estimated 1000, but that was before many of the Nirvana around today. If we are taking into consideration variations of country of manufacture, and so on - things like the different Fancy Pants babies, for example, then I can easily believe it's more than that.

My site has a separate page for every pony/pony set and I have over 700 pages, but I don't cover the Nirvana any more, and ponies such as twins and families are on collective pages. Also different releases of the same pony share pages.

Right now I'm going with "a lot" as my final answer

You could go and count the Wiki though...that might be more accurate an estimation?

I had an aim of 655 for the US and UK releases and that included pets, dragons and bush woolies but not including Nirvana.

Looking at my lists I have these figures (these don't include pets or dream beauties only regular size ponies):
G1 Adults - 419
G1 Babies - 218
G1 adult nirvana - 274
G1 Baby nirvana - 93
=1004

That's not an up to date list though

so I'd say very roughly 1000+
