Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Can I refund shipping on Mercari?
« on: June 22, 2023, 05:45:58 PM »
Mercari added a feature that combines shipping earlier this year. The buyer needs to put multiple items in their cart then select the option to bundle, and Mercari generates a multi-item sale with one shipping label. This process can only be done before the purchase is made (ie you still can't combine shipping after multiple items are purchased separately).

Pony Fairs! / Re: Pony Fari west - Can you pick up my pony for me?
« on: July 24, 2022, 11:28:07 AM »
Fair Staff here...
I will not personally be at Pony Fair West, but historically we have had no issues with attendees picking up bags/packages for other ticket holders who can not attend. If you can not attend, but purchase a ticket & arrange for another ticket-holding attendee to pick up your items & ship to you, that is fine.

There are very limited quantities of the llama pony, so there is no guarantee that any will be available for sale separately after ticket packages have been fulfilled.

I'm planning to go, but I have some questions about ticket prices that are maybe a bit private in nature -- should I DM someone here with my questions or should I message the Facebook group?

Also, I know if I'm not vending I'm not allowed to sell ponies, of course, but I have a tote bag full of mostly common ponies I'd be interested in trading if anyone wants to trade, maybe for other common ponies. Is trading allowed?

Thanks! And I can't wait to see everyone there!

If you have not found an answer to your questions, please send a message via the Fair's Facebook page.  :bigups:

Is there a posted schedule? I want to book my return flight on Sunday and hopefully not miss the closing ceremonies.

I don't think we have the official schedule pinned down yet, but typically things usually wrap up between 5-6pm on Sunday.

Nice KKV :) I am in a very similar place, I don't often get to add to my collection as my "completers" are ridiculously beyond my budget.

I understand the "sellers remorse" I am pleased to hear you have Piggy Peachy back with you :) has she got rounded hearts or pointy hearts?

Fitting with the Spanish theme, I added NC Applejack to my collection (she needs her photoshoot)

Love pkw xxx
 pkw
My Peachy has the pointy hearts, as does the Snuzzle in my collection. I had to search for a symbol comparison pic to be sure, haha!

No picture, but a few weeks ago I added Piggy Peachy back into my collection! I had one years ago, and she was sadly a victim of downsizing, so I'm quite happy to add her back again. I don't add ponies to my collection very often these days as most of the ones I'm missing are beyond my current budget, so any time I do get a new one it is extra exciting.

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Help. Americans shipping overseas.
« on: September 28, 2021, 04:53:05 AM »
USPS can only guarantee tracking until the package leaves US customs, after that the tracking may or may not be scanned by the receiving country's mail system. The post office employee has probably been instructed to err on the side of caution & tell customers that tracking is "not available overseas" when the more correct thing to say would be "tracking may not be available overseas".

First Class international out of the US is less likely to be scanned & tracked compared to Priority international. Priority is more expensive, but offers somewhat better tracking & limited insurance.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Price check on alt birthflower ponies please!

Also, can anybody recommend software or an app that they use to inventory their collection? I would hate to die and family sell my ponies for what I said I paid for them

Snupps is a great app for collection inventory! It can be accessed as both an app & as a webpage. You can set the items you post to either public or private, and there are private functions within the public settings as well (example: your pic & description can be public, but value info can be private).

MLP Nirvana / Re: Piggy price check
« on: August 30, 2021, 06:13:49 AM »
In nice condition, Piggies generally go for $250-300 at the low end of the prices & higher for the less common ones.

Condition is a major factor with prices. It looks like several of the Piggies pictured have hair cuts. It might be hard to give accurate price estimates without additional pictures or details about their condition.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Italian Trickles Variant?
« on: July 25, 2021, 09:14:31 AM »
Given the history of this pony & the condition of the others from their childhood owner, I would strongly believe she is a true variant and/or factory error. It may be impossible to ever have a definite answer that everyone will agree on due to all the factors already mentioned.

TBH, I kind of twitched at the suggestion to take off her head to check; I definitely would NOT do that xD. If there's no sign of tampering then you'd be vandalising a variation whose authenticity would, as you mentioned, be impossible to prove thereafter.

I agree with this 110%.  ^.^

I hope you all like it!

International shipping both in & out of the US has been very slow for the last year due to the pandemic. Packages that took 2-4 weeks in the past can now take 1-4 months. If you're in the US and buying or selling internationally both buyer & seller need to be aware of potential delays. If your buyer is willing to be patient, the package should arrive eventually, but it can be very stressful on both parties not knowing how long the delay will be.

MLP Nirvana / Re: White Skyflier
« on: May 27, 2021, 09:48:44 AM »
Pink Italian ponies fade very easily. It's not unusual to see Italian Twilight, Firefly, Skyflier, and a few other in very pale shades of pink or even completely white. Sometimes people assume white is a true variant, but it is just the result of fading. That said, some people like the white versions just because they look different.

Pony Corral / Re: Question: determining the correct year
« on: April 30, 2021, 05:57:01 PM »
The dates on the feet are the year the molds were made. Those dates are typically one year before the ponies were set to appear on shelves.

After years of confusion over release years with year 1 as "1982-83", year 2 as "1983-4", and so on I have an answer to this! The key to understanding the release years lies in the dealer catalogs Hasbro made for their retail buyers.

The correct release years for MLP in the US start with year 1 in 1983. Hasbro created a catalog for retail buyers that was given out at Toy Fair which took place in February every year during the original run of MLP. Technically a product year debuted in February when products were first shown to retailers... or at least first shown to MOST retailers.

Hasbro & the other major toy makers of the day also had an event called PRE-TOY FAIR which took place in September each year, and was exclusively for their largest retail customers. In the 80's & 90's this would have been stores like Toys R Us, Kmart, Walmart, etc. At Pre-Toy Fair, the retail buyers would get the chance to see the new products for the following year early, and place their orders before other retailers. So a "Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalog" would have been given out to retail buyers at an event in September 1987. Those buyers could place orders at that time, which in turn could then put brand new products on their shelves right at the end of the year during the holiday shopping season.

Only certain products were available to certain retailers to purchase early. So the split year numbering we have used for years is not entirely accurate... but it's not exactly inaccurate either.

My Little Pony debuted in the US at Toy Fair in February 1983 and the first round of product was on shelves in the spring of 1983. So calling year 1 "1982-1983" is incorrect. The earliest Pre-Toy Fair catalog I personally have found is 1986, so the Year 4 So-Soft ponies & company are likely the first product year that was available for early shipments & may have hit stores at the end of 1985. There may be Pre-Toy Fair catalogs for 1984 & 1985 as well, but so far I have not found proof of their existence.

The correct years for US releases should be:
Year 1 - 1983 (debuted Feb 1983; first on shelves Spring 1983)
Year 2 - 1984
Year 3 - 1985
Year 4 - 1986 (starting here, some product may have appeared at select retailers in the holiday season of the previous year. This justifies the split year "1985-1986", but the products were really not intended for wide release until 1986.)
Year 5 - 1987
Year 6 - 1988
Year 7 - 1989
Year 8 - 1990
Year 9 - 1991
Year 10 - 1992

Hi friends, I don't visit the Arena as much as I used to, but I wanted to share this with you all... I hope that's ok.

Some of you may be familiar with the Plastic Crack documentary series that features several well known toy collectors, including my dear friend Summer Hayes. The creator of that documentary series just released an additional series called Plastic Chats which is set up as hour long episodes interviewing collectors about more specific topics. This new series was filmed remotely during the early part of the pandemic. In Episode 2, I did an interview all about collecting International My Little Pony variants.

It is available to rent worldwide on Vimeo for a small fee ($2 for 4 episodes or $1 each episode in the US & I’m told costs are similar for viewers around the world).

https://vimeo.com/ondemand/plasticchats/

This was filmed almost a year ago, I’ve been equal parts nervous & excited for its release ever since. I hope you all like it.

Episode 2 is the only one about MLP, but if you are a fan of toy collecting in general I absolutely recommend renting the full 4 episodes. Episode one is about Ghostbusters, Episode 3 is about GI Joe, Episode 4 features a gal who is part of an all females Star Wars podcast & she discusses multiple other fandoms including Lego, Harry Potter, & Disney.
