Title: Favorite Halloween related stuffs?
Post by: SourdoughStomper on October 08, 2015, 09:52:42 AM
:bat: :blackcat: :ghost: :jack: :spider: :witch:

It's coming up pretty soon! My favorite thing about Halloween is buying some candy, and handing it out to the treaters while sitting next to my next door neighbor. We get to chat for over an hour and have fun making kids happy. Good times! :)

BONUS QUESTION: Are you dressing up? What as?

:zombie: :zombie:

As soon as I can drive...I'm going trick or treating again.  :frolic:

I like the parties. I'm going to a big one in the city again this year. I wish I wasn't too old to trick or treat, though. I mean, who is ever too old for free candy?

I love the vibe of Halloween but I'm not much of an active participant in it (decent events for the occasion are few and far between in Macclesfield.) Usually I just treat it like a normal evening but with a cheesy film on the background but this year, I'm thinking of getting into the spirit of it with some spooky audio books. I have an exceptionally good one of Moon by James Herbert that is an absolute blast to listen to and it'd be perfect for Halloween! :D

November 1st, AKA cheap candy day. I also like carving pumpkins but I haven't done that in a long time, maybe next year when/if I'm back home.

Otherwise, I'm not super fond of Halloween anymore (I used to love it as a kid for obvious reasons). I think dressing up is fun, but not worth the hassle of making/buying a costume for one night, especially since I don't care for parties or anything where I would need one.

I like the weather, the fact that it's finally cool (not true today, though.  ), and that's it almost November and winter is coming. Winter maybe my favorite season, but late October and November give me the best feeling because the winter is still ahead.

Otherwise, I'd say that dressing up is fun... But I've hardly done it since I was a young child. Aside from that I'm really not a fan of Halloween itself. I find the decorations and such to be quite disturbing. I always look forward to Christmas time when it turns into pretty decorated spruce trees and colorful stringed lights everywhere as opposed to ...skeletons, zombies, werewolves, and the like. Ugh. D:

Halloween is not really a thing here, except the parties. A year ago some dressed up kids were ringing on our door but as we didn't expect it and thus didn't have candy to give we didn't open it. But a nightclub has been having a huge halloween party every year and I've been going since I was 19. I will not be dressing up this year as I don't have the finance for it.

I love the candy-SOOOO much candy!  I enjoy putting up the decorations and carving pumpkins too.  I've been practicing carving more ornate pumpkins and I'm hoping to do something really cool for this year.

My family always runs a trick or treat event in the park of our small hometown and I love to see all the costumes that the kids wear.  I also get free leftover candy afterwards (I might have a slight sugar addiction...)

Best thing about Halloween though?  Horror movie marathon!   :devious:  I try to watch as many scary or monster-related movies as possible in October.  Animated, foreign, cult classics, I watch 'em all.

Halloween is my second favorite holiday. I'm a total horror movie buff and I loveee the decorations. I've been trying to convince my mother to get one of the inflatable dragons they're selling at wal-mart right now.
I still go trick-or-treating in groups, no one has even denied us candy before thankfully.
We usually have big Halloween parties but the girl who always had them goes to college in Colorado now so we have to have them at another house.
The weather is always wonderful, I'm in Texas though so it takes a while to finally cool down here.

I'll be re-using my female Robin costume this year. If I knew I was going to trick or treating I'd get that inflatable Godzilla costume. The Robin one makes me feel cute though

And I get excited about dressing up.
And my birthday is only two days after Halloween!

I chose "story telling" to mean reading horror stories/watching horror movies/playing horror video games -- whichever I decide to do that day. :) In fact, one of my reading groups is reading a horror book as a special Halloween extra (on top of the other books we're reading).

But my favorite "activity" is the weather. :D It's usually just starting to get cool when Halloween rolls around, and the weather is usually just perfect on that night! :)

It was so hard limiting it to just 5  - I love everything about Halloween!  We now have an old barn on our new property, and I am soooo tempted to turn it into a haunted house. But right now we need it for storage. Boo.

Halloween isn't a big thing where I am from (Germany), but I love celebrating it where I live now (China). We always have special events and parties for the kids. Usually I carve watermelons with the students due to the lack of pumpkins, but this year we pre-ordered lots of pumpkins online, and we will do a proper pumpkin carving, yummy soup included! Usually I dress up as a vampire. Love me some blood!

I love Halloween. My favorite things are the candy, the costumes, the myths and legends that tie into the holiday, and rushing out to get cheap candy on November 1st.

This year I'm on candy hand out duty and I'm planning to grab some accessories (Cat ears and tail or a pair of wings and a wand) so I can have a bit of dress up fun when kids come to the door. We live in a pretty non-busy neighbourhood, so we're either giving out 3x peanut butter cups, a full sized chocolate bar, or chips and pop--we haven't decided yet. I figure I always loved finding those houses that gave the epic candy, so I should be one of those houses since I put money aside to afford it. :) (Plus, as mentioned, we get >25 kids on our street here. We're out in the country.)

When I'm not handing out candy, I'll be watching "The Halloween Tree", "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and playing Until Dawn on PS4 (well, watching my bf play it but it's very story driven so that'll work just fine). Going to be a pretty exciting night!!

This is my favorite time of the year! My birthday is this month and Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the colors, the ambiance, the weather, decor, legends, Halloween movies, costumes, etc. I don't get to celebrate on Halloween though cause I have to work but I willing be celebrating all month if I can! Doing a party the weekend before.

It's changed a bit now that I'm a mom--growing up, it was always a fun 'challenge' to figure out a costume that you cold put on over snowpants (no joke). Some years, it would be nice and in the low 50s, but most years it's 40s and rainy, if not snowy. I think I stopped Trick-or-Treating at 17? My husband dressed up in his hunting gear, and I put on bunny ears hahaha It worked, and we got candy :D Before falling out with my father, I took DD trick-or-treating through the sub I grew up in, which was really neat to do. My husband and his family isn't big on Halloween, so no excitement from him.

My DD is an October baby, which makes it my favorite month. And there is Nightmare Before Christmas, the ultimate Halloween classic. I love that I get to share that with her, and this year, I think I will be introducing her to Hocus Pocus! She loves coming up with her own Halloween costumes--last year she was Pix E Flutters from Lalaloopsy Girls; the year before, she was Twilight Sparkle. This year, she said she wanted to be Elsa, but I put my foot down and said 'you know, 6 girls in your class were Elsa last year, I really don't think you should dress up as her, go for something original.' And she came back with The Tooth Fairy. She's missing her top 2 and bottom 2 teeth, so I think it's perfect :D

a picture rewards for making it through my wall of text haha

Halloween is a very special day to me since it's my birthday. I'll be 31 on the 31st!

Aside from that, I LOVE the horror movies, the classic animated specials (I miss Garfield's Halloween!), haunted houses, delving into horror anthologies, the candy, and the special memories with friends and family. It's also the time of year associated with two of my absolute favorite G3 ponies: Autumn Skye & Pumpkin Tart.

We didn't have Halloween in Oz when I was growing up, but we still had things like haunted houses at our primary school fete.  We loved witches and skeletons in cartoons too, and I remember reading a scary picture book about a snaggle-toothed witch and the book glowed in the dark which made it so cool.

But that stuff wasn't relegated to a particular time of year.  We knew what halloween was, but it wasn't part of our culture to go trick or treating.

I did actually go once (I was technically an adult, I think about 19), with my little sister (she was my excuse) when the whole halloween thing was starting to 'become a thing' in Australia.  I mean, you get free food, right?  We didn't get much because people don't really prepare for it, but one guy who worked at Donut King gave us a box of donuts that he'd taken home at the end of his shift.  It was awesome.

Though one lady thought halloween was 'the devil' or something, she told us we were going to hell and gave us a tract   (My family are Christian but, for serious?  It's just for fun.)

My favourite part is the atmosphere. The fall colours, the onset of evening, I can't really describe it but it's always been an enlivening night! I loooved trick or treating as a kid, and ya I secretly wish I could still go :P I have great memories of my friends and me making our costumes and planning for the big night. Raking leaves to stuff into scarecrows, so much fun! Nowadays I look forwards to carving pumpkins, even if my designs aren't as ambitious as they used to be. Also, can't say no to all that delicious candy. And... I love crows so this time of year is a great time for me to find some new crow related things to add to my collection.

Honeycomb, I'm kind of surprised that Halloween is celebrated in China! Interesting!

CoonhoundBetty, your daughter is adorable! :)

I love the candy, the costumes, the weather, cemeteries, writing spooky stories, and some of the decorations! I don't care for the really gory and gross ones with sickening wounds, etc., but I have a lot of fun looking at the others! I wish I could figure out how to go trick-or-treating again, because I would totally do it. I'd definitely be one of those moms who dresses up to take her kids out, if I ever have kids.

I am hoping to finally do my Twilight Sparkle costume this year, but I can't believe how hard it is to find a purple wig. Good grief.

I live in Australia, and halloween isn't a huge thing over here. However its my favourite thing to celebrate. I love decorating my centre at work (I work in childcare, run my own toddler room & also 2nd in charge under the owner / director) the kids love it. I LOVE dressing up, im doing a boat cruise for halloween with my best mates this year and going as a zombie. For work I don't know yet, maybe a toned down zombie lol.

Of course it isn't really celebrated as in your country. But schools and training centers find it a good way to promote their own business, and to bring some foreign culture closer to the students.

Yeah, I wish I could still go out and trick or treat. When I was in college one year my friends and I went trick-or-treating. It was so much fun  I love the candy and dressing up, just as I did when I was little. Oh, and now, as someone mentioned here, I love cheap candy day, Nov. 1!

I don't like Halloween decorations, either. Christmas decorations are so much better. When my sister and our best friend went out together, we had a secret code word ("broccoli," lol) for the houses that were too scary and so we skipped them. I think we instituted this policy after my little sister had someone lower a huge fake spider onto her head. And other scary stuff.

I wish I could say that I was doing something cool for Halloween, but I will be working, second year in a row for that. But the saving grace is that I can wear my costume....Which should be re-made by then.

I have been a dragon, a Bald Eagle, a Snowy Owl, and some other things that I can't remember. Here's the thing, none of my costumes were bought from a store, all of them were made by my mom and I.

I have two or three costumes that still fit, but I happily wore my Captain Rex armor for roughly three or four consecutive Halloween's, including last year when I wore it to work. As a result of so much use, I am replacing it with a brand new suit of armor, based off of one of my Star Wars: The Clone Wars OCs.

Well I definitely cannot say the weather as it's far from  sweater weather by Halloween here. It's already "dress in layers and try not to freeze" weather. And then here you are with your skimpy costume. I didn't go out on the 31st last year because it was soooo cold.

One of my favorite things to do is the trick or treating event for dogs in my area. Since society has deemed me too old to trick or treat (lame) and I don't have children to live vicariously through, I use my dog! Over 30 business participate and he gets a huge bag of goodies and I get some candy and free food as well.

There are some things that I enjoy all year, like horror movies and decorations.

I am not a fan of the scary gory aide of Halloween, but I looove the dressing up part the best! I usually am a witch, but this year I got a really cool Victorian dress pattern I was hoping to be able to make for myself. We'll see if it really happens. :P I get pretty into helping my kids dress up. So far no one has wanted to cooperate with doing a family theme, my hubby is not so into dressing up. :P

Sadly, there is no Halloween where we live, but there is a holiday about going to put flowers and wreaths on the gravestones, that always ends up in some cross-family competition and criticizing how the others put ugly flowers, or went budget on the wreath, or something on the way home.

Isn't that fun? :(

I would say scary movies, but I watch scary movies all year long XD

I LOVE dressing up...any excuse to put on a costume.  I haven't had the funds to get or put together a new costume for this year, so I'll probably re-use one of my comic-con cosplays.   I'll either be Scully from the X-Files, or Crowley from Supernatural.

My munchkin is still to small for Halloween candy, but NEXT year I'm SO looking forward to family costumes and trick-or-treating!

We didn't have Halloween in Germany when I was growing up, but I went trick or treating with my brother once or twice (he's 12 years younger than me, and it was slowly becoming "a thing" when he was little). Trick or treating isn't really a huge thing here in the UK, either. I'm not expecting any children to come to my place because the entrance is hard to find (not even delivery persons find it), but I think I might have some extra candy in, just in case.

As for costumes, I'll be Dorothy from "Wizard of Oz" for our office Halloween. It'll be ever so cold because the dress is short-sleeved and only comes down to the knee. I bought thick leggings and a cardigan, so I hope that'll keep me warm.

I love Halloween- we always go all out with decorations-

I build a scarecrow every year dubbed HELEN who looks so real-  and put her on the front porch.  Parents and kids alike are terrified of her- I think because she looks SO REAL they are afraid someone is in there about to jump up at them.

I set her up this year on the back end of the house (where we are having a lot of work done) and scared the CRAP out of the contractors who arrived this morning- hehe!!!

I still have a ton more to put up- a giant spider, some green glowing lights- cat skeletons...

Have to finish the costumes too! (Steven Universe team costumes)
