Pony Corral / Re: Caring for and storing a scented pony with other ponies?
« on: December 21, 2019, 03:43:11 AM »
My scented ponies have lived among my other ponies in a closed pony room for years with no adverse effects. Same general rules apply though: no ponies touching each other (to avoid dye transfer), try to keep the humidity and light exposure under control, etc.

Mine are correctly carded. They’re showing up now in dollar stores here in Canada.

Pony Corral / Re: So what is it about the Mountain Boys for you? (or not)
« on: December 06, 2019, 03:51:15 AM »
Colour: yes, I do love their colour schemes.
Boys: never a bad thing to have more boy ponies in the herd. I like the boy molds.
Freckles: so much yes!  I love freckles on ponies and I’m jealous that you had so many more over there than we had over here.
Names: I do find the names fun
Geography: yes, I think the fact that they’re harder to get in North America helps to increase their popularity.
Other: I like how their designs are similar to a lot of the early G1 lines. Simple colour schemes that work well like the first six ponies. Symbols from nature and interesting names to match like the Glory set of unicorns and Pegasus. These are some of my favourites, so it’s natural I’d be drawn to the MBs.
I do love the BBs as well, but I find the MBs more interesting. Also, the BBs themes generally don’t interest me (I’m not into trucks or boats or many sports [they should have done a hockey-themed BB!]) I do love th BB accessories though. I’ve been terribly slow about getting the MBs though. I only have Fireball and Tornado so far.
I’m not sure I could pick a favourite from that set. Maybe Tornado since he was my first MB.

Pony Corral / Re: My Little Ponies at Work...

I have McD happy meal ponies on my desk at work. All my coworkers know about my collection and think it’s really cool. (They’ll all ask about my trips to the MLPFair every summer and take an interest in my customs and everything too).

Pony Corral / Re: Are you organized or not?
« on: December 01, 2019, 04:23:23 AM »
Yes and no. My ponies are very organized and everyone is nicely on shelves not touching each other and displayed so you can see everyone.

The rest of the pony room is a mess. Some elements, like pony accessories and (finally) plushies, are well organized and displayed/stored.  Others, like G4 ponies I haven’t opened, my small book and merchandise collections, are a mess.

Also, I use my Flickr account to track my collections through pictures, and I’m quite good at keeping that up to date, but my spreadsheet hasn’t been updated in over a year. I have no problem remembering which ponies I have, but I like to also make notes on their condition, their accessories, and such and I’ve been quite bad at that lately.

Pony Corral / Re: The Toys That Made Us
« on: November 16, 2019, 04:21:26 AM »
I thought the episode was fun, and was what I expected based on the past seasons. It is very North America centric, which is not surprising as they’re focused a lot on the original development of the toys (and it was the same for the other episodes) but it would have been interesting to see some nirvana ponies or mention that G2 lasted way longer in Europe. But it’s only 45 minutes and we all know that we could talk about ponies for days and not cover everything.

Pony Corral / Re: G2 Acetone Problem?
« on: October 26, 2019, 04:07:06 AM »
What Duenia said. G4s are very easy to damage in the same way. Both G2 and 4 are made of a harder plastic that G1 and 3 and can react quite differently to chemicals.

Pony Corral / Re: Ponies at Toy Shows/Fairs?
« on: October 05, 2019, 04:27:26 AM »
Here it depends on the type of toy show. We have some dedicated to “classic” toys (trains, dolls, 50s era stuff) others that are focused more towards 80s and 90s toys, and ones in between. We try to sell at one or two each summer, and because we’re often one of  the only “pink” booths, we tend to sell really well (spoiler alert: G3’s and G4’s sell really well to the kids of adult collectors). It’s rare that I find ponies to buy, but I tend to sell really well. I’ve also had a couple of instances where other vendors will sell me the ponies they have cheap because they don’t really know the line and just want to move them. It helps too if you have a pony shirt on, as vendors will sometimes call you over if they recognize what you’re looking for.

So cute!  I love that tiny shelf for the petites. The whole thing looks so much more organized than my pony room.

Pony Corral / Re: Am I the only one?

I’ve bought a few of the basic fun ponies, and I hope to get a few more, but I don’t see the point of recreating my entire vintage collection with a repro collection, you know?  I’m not personally interested in the Stranger Things AJ, but I like the idea of ‘specialty’ ponies like that more than endless waves of G1 reproductions.

Pony Corral / Re: G4 Hair Quality Comparison
« on: June 01, 2019, 04:38:23 AM »
I’ve had some small success getting the bad hair to behave with multiple conditioning and boiling attempts (every few months I take a few of these girls and repeat that process). Setting them in straw curls seems to help a bit, as well. They’re still not as nice as the original G4s, but at least they’re less “bride of Frankenstein”
