Pony Corral / Selling questions Babies/Accessories ideas?
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:13:15 PM »
My lovely boyfriend just bought me a massive accessory lot. With the photos I've identified most of the pieces in it, save for a couple odds and ends. It was a really nice purchase. Has quite a few things I'm missing, which at this point is hard for me to get in lots. So yay! BUT one day I wouldn't mind being showcased on a TV piece for my collecting, I don't want to give anyone reason to call the hoarders shows on me however. lol. In addition to all the extras I already have, I'll have heaps more extras once this one comes in.

It should arrive while I'm gone visiting my parents. I have a hoard of extra babies, and even more random accessories in storage at their house.

Option #1 Do you think it would be worth it for me to bring my sales babies/Acc back home and match them with corresponding accessories from this lot?

Option #2 Or (being the accessory freak I am) should I put together packages (i.e baby moondancers rocker, bottle, duckie, necklace etc) and sell them in little sets that like so people can complete their babies. I've noticed a lot of collectors just want the pony, and can take or leave the bits and pieces that come along with.

Option #3 Match accessories to any really NM or better baby. Split up accessories into sets for rest and sell without a pony, sell all other babies as singles.

Either way, I'll have to break most of these into some kind of lot/set or else it would take forever to re-home them piece by piece. (and with shipping from my location, I doubt many could justify paying $5 shipping to get a single baby necklace)

Other ideas welcome as well!

Pony Corral / Re: Interesting question regarding FF ponies
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:23:11 PM »
Yeah, all the same date. Give me a bit I'll get a photo.... Looks like I'll have to dig a few out to show what I mean. The legs are definitely different between them. I don't know if I kept any long legged versions (thought they were ugly.). But I think I have an earlier issue, and later issue to compare.

Edit to add:
These are all I have access to here. :( The only ponies I have on me are recent buys. Hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about.
1) Lemon Drop - Later issue Pat Pend removed, 1982, China stamp
2) Bluebelle - Later MO issue- 1982 Hong Kong
3) FF Bluebelle - 1982 Hong Kong

The skinny legged ones (Peachy) I've seen were only stamped on two feet if I remember correctly. The ones I found had horrible hair. seemed sloppily rooted, and pitch straight. refused to go to that nice bob. And I could have sworn there are also CP ponies with narrower legs.... I remember being super picky putting together my sets so that the eyepaint matched from pony to pony. Only to be frustrated that some had slightly different bodies.

That pose seems to have been re-sculpted a few times. But, always was still stamped with 82'

FF
2ndWide hoof
3rdLong skinny leg (I see peachy's and lemon drops most often like this)
4th (not as wide at base of feet as first)
5 Swirly Sculpt

Compare a later issue MO collector pony (more vibrant colours), to an older one (duller colours). You'll notice differences in the legs especially.

I know what you mean. When I was a noob I sold off stripes and nectar with their sandbox, and some twins sets with some accessories for something like $5-6 per set. I couldn't figure out why I was just flooded with pm's within moments of posting a sales thread. Oh, had a bunch of stuff end really low on ebay then too (with MO's amd rares). That was heartbreaking. But what good would it do me to dwell on any of that. I like enjoying my collection, not becoming upset by it.

Now that's behind me, it's usually silly stuff. Give away princess sparkle and a month later she was selling on ebay for $60. You know what I mean?

But, I notice sometimes too, when I ask for price check prices some things sit around unsold. It's only when I drastically reduce prices stuff actually moves for me. When I'm buying I don't usually pay anything close to what I was two years ago. Now I only get ribbons (regular) in lots, and only for well under $1 per piece. Combs and brushes are the same for me. Even other accessories I used to shell out for, I'm being more patient with, and paying a fraction of what I was used to.  A lot of people are selling things for way way less then some of the pricechecks I've seen. I hope that makes you feel a bit better. *hugs*

Pony Corral / Re: Have you ever unboxed a MIB G1 pony.... :O
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:33:39 PM »
Well I ll hold my hand up and admit that I have de-boxed in the past....at the end of the day a pony belongs to the person who purchased her so its your individual call but I can completely see the side of people who are against de-boxing - everyone is entitled to their own thoughts lol!

My main defence on this comes from my accessory addiction...here is an example, over the years I have owned 3 of the Prom Queen SHS MIB - they cost me between £40 and £65 each. I sold them about a year ago - I got my money back on 2 and the other one bombed a little in price. However, I have over the same period of time managed to collect the 4 of them loose and complete....and I will tell you honestly and simply that buying these ponies individually [some with some accessories, some complete and some accessories just by themselves] has added together to cost more than what I paid for the MIB versions! Another good example of this is Sweet Clover or Good Weather - if recent ebay auctions are an indication, they are now "cheaper" MIB that you would have to pay if you were tracking down individual accessories.

So, yes, if I only wanted the pony and not the accessories, then selling a MIB and buying a much cheaper single pony makes sense but the theory that a loose and complete pony is always cheaper is not the case. I dont get it either but it seems to be the way! I am of course not claiming this is the case with every pony!

Yes, thats exactly why the two doubles I have (that I'm holding onto for now)  have me tempted. Hoping I'll find them loose and complete. But, Paid $40 for MIB Lucky leaf and leafy. Guessing I couldn't get them loose and complete for that. Another is the last watercolour seapony I'm missing loose and complete. Paid $12 for the MOC. I paid over double for my loose ones, and most were missing their ribbons. (Like I said earlier, no pony room, no reason to open them... yet.)

Cook- I couldn't agree more. I've found MUCH more mint ponies, loose then MIB. HOLY did Hasbro sell flawed ponies. I've seen blush rubs, symbol scuffs, inground dirt, yellowing, frizzy hair etc. on old MIB. Not to mention things like gobs of glue in hair, tails put in crooked etc, symbols not aligned properly.  (not opening, but looking carefully inside the packages). I am one of those super pickies, and don't go mad spending, I've managed to get down to needing roughly 100 in NM or better to complete my USA set. But yes! there is a big thrill in finding a beautiful NM pony I didn't have before. :D

Pfft, not boring. I collect MOC/MIB to see the pretty graphics on the package. :D Back when toy companies had artists hand draw the packaging.

I bought a party pack I slit the tape on. Seeing as it's only a couple pieces of clear tape, I wanted to make sure all accessories were in the box and nothing was removed. I didn't remove headbands from ponies, or open any of the packets inside.

I have two MOC/MIB that leave me tempted. But, both those MOC's are doubles and I don't own those ponies loose and complete/mint yet. It's easy for me to hold off, I don't have a pony room yet! So they either stay boxed and packed, or opened and packed. I thought it would be silly to just open and pack them up again - makes it much easier to be patient. :) Once I do have my room set up, I'll see if anyone has loose mint sets to trade me first.

Can you believe I've become a closet collector. I have probably 40 bins in my garage but since  newly single it's hard to tell when the right time is to tell the bf about my dirty little secret. LOL! I'm getting my nerve up. I do have a beautiful glass shelf in my walk in closet and I'm anxious to get the creams of the crop up there. I miss my ponies tremendously. I'll get there. I still have some other unpacking to do though before I let myself get to the fun stuff. The ponies will be like my reward. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I'm sure it'll go fine. :) We are so much more then our toy collections. Mine still hasn't seen the entire collection. He saw some of the pictures I had up on facebook of some of my ponies back when we were friends. Before we started dating, he would go into thrift shops and look for ponies for me. (The man ended up finding a perfect TAF baby in a bag at VV). He knows my collection is massive- I still have to have it sent here though. His only comment "the next house needs to have a room for your ponies".

It's your spending money, and you know what? You don't need to justify to anyone how or where it's spent. :)

I feel like I need to comment on the damaged items you recieved. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I've received a number of ebay items that were horridly packaged. Most people don't think they're responsible for damage in shipping, but YES THEY ARE. It's a sellers responsibility that they package an item so it can go through the system and arrive at the other end undamaged. Postal workers won't gingerly handle parcels. They get tossed and thrown into bins, have heaps of things stacked on top.  (Only exceptions being backed over by a truck, or another freak situation like that, that would be beyond a senders control). But most damaged items are poorly packaged and were handled normally. If you get another item that wasn't packed well and arrived damaged, don't feel guilty about returning it and demanding a refund.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony mold advice? :S

I agree with fingerpaints. I've used bathroom cleaners with success. I'm talking about the foaming cleaners that really work well for heavy soap scum and moldy grout.

You do have to remove the head, and I pull out the tail first. Spray inside the body with the cleaner, and then fill as full of water as possible (without it running out of the tail hole and neck seam). Spray inside the head, and leave that sitting upright for a bit, and to allow the product to start loosening up the gunk. leave for a while and then scrub with an old toothbrush. It should loosen up the bulk of the problem.  Make sure to open the window while you're working, and be extra cautious if you have any breathing problems.

Thanks! I'm hoping there are still collectors close enough to where my parents live. Being able to find homes for things where they would be appreciated is a plus. Otherwise craigslist it will be. :)

Oh, I remember all of that. We can be crazy old pony ladies together. :)

Mommy charms
- Back in the day I kept losing individual charms for $40 high bids (I was picky, wanted charms without spots and rubs). I bought my last charm for $1ish about three months ago. (Paint a Picture who was still blue)

There was a fellow in the Philippines who ended up with a crate of MIP charms, he sold some at local markets, and when the same customer kept buying as many as he'd sell, he looked them up online and discovered how much they were being re-sold for on ebay. (this is back on 09'). The first person selling online didn't have complete sets. Then, he started selling his there as well. I bought a few complete sets from him, and got entire sets for what two charms used to run. I'm not complaining, I picked through and put together a pretty perfect set for myself. It never would have happened before, between how scarce they were, and the flaws they usually had when they did pop up for sale.

I'd be in. Could send a postal MO easy.

Hi all,
Need some advice from GTA folks.

I have to visit my parents soon in Brampton.  I need to finish packing anything at their house, selling off anything I no longer want, and anything I do want get it ready to take with me across the country.

I was thinking of Digging out the extras my collection this trip and hopefully re-homing some of my extra stuff to fellow collectors. I kept a lot of duplicates, extra playsets etc (All g1's). I had decent luck last time with craigslist. It seems I ran into more re-sellers then collectors there though. And people wanting vintage for their children. It still took care of my clutter - those weren't the mintiest ponies ever or anything. I know I have some nice stuff stashed and It seems somewhat silly to mail all my sales items home to sell here, or pack and send them on a moving truck if I'm not planning on keeping them. If anyone knows of anywhere else in the Brampton area I could sell things (Good local classified, etc) that would be fantastic. Or know any collectors local to me that may be interested in taking a peek.
