Pony Corral / Re: Disintegrating Hair Syndrome
« on: January 08, 2024, 08:19:01 PM »
Jumping in to commiserate on disintegrating polypropylene hair on HQG1C ponies. :( Sadly this has happened to essentially every one of my curly-haired HQG1C's. I've tried deep conditioning and flat ironing, but it is very laborious and it barely helps. I also suspect any improvement only lasts until the hair is slightly moved. The ponies I have that are afflicted are
- Jolly Dasher/Jolly Treats
- True Blue (Alternate Hair)
- all 4 Sweet Treat Sisters
- Blue Baby Tipper
- Green Baby Tipper
- Yellow Baby Tipper
- Glitter Wishes
- Lucky Star
- Flow
- Pizzaz

I also have Trick-Or-Treat , Star Spangled, Moonglow and Moonlight, but I'm terrified to touch their hair for fear the frenzied frizz fiasco will overtake them as well.

I've also noticed that the mane of Baby Emerald/Aqua, although not curly, is a very strange texture. It's different from her tail, and it's different from Baby Marigold's mane and tail too.

Oooh lucky duck, Ponyfan! I still haven't had any luck with my closest cracker barrels.

I have been so looking forward to all four TE's, but I dread it's just not in the cards for me. I sstill do really really really really want Fizzy though. If anyone is able to grab an extra Fizzy, would you be willing to direct message me to work out ship and payment details?

Otherwise I might have to start a support group thread for people who can't find the TE's anywhere!

What a wonderful thread to start, Cobblestone!

I'm relatively new here--maybe a year or so. The first summer of the pandemic, I dug out my childhood collection (G1'S) and I was just completely elated to rediscover all my ponies--doing their hair, organizing them into little families, or by pose, or color, or symbol... However, after 30+ years in storage I realized some of them needed some concentrated TLC. In researching restoration I discovered this community. It has been a true treasure trove! People are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely helpful.

While other sites do provide some great content on restoration, what I value here is the ability to ask a specific question and receive helpful responses pretty quickly. It's also been fun geeking out on quirky pony stuff with actual other people.

And, more generally, it just makes me happy to know that there are other people out there who appreciate the ponies as much as I do.  :good: :lovey:

Oh and the old skool pony emojis are solid gold.

Oooh lucky duck, Ponyfan! I still haven't had any luck with the to two closest Cracker Barrel's to me. (One store hasn't gotten any in at all; the other did get them on one shipment, but they sold out immediately.)

I have been so looking forward to snagging this full set, but if it's not in the cards, I still really really want Fizzy. If anyone is willing to grab me a Fizzy, would you please send me a direct/personal message to figure out details?

Otherwise I might have to start a support group thread on here for people who can't find TE's!

Wow! I don't have anything substantive to add here, but --although this choice strikes me completely random-- it is still SO SUPER DUPER COOL!!!

I love the idea of being able to purchase them as a set as well.

Thanks for this awesome update, LadyMoondancer!!!

Yeeesssss!!! LadyAmalthea, thanks so much for all these pics! I especially appreciate the comparison photos because I also don't own any of the originals in this set.

I noticed that, compared against the original TE's, the Basic Fun set doesn't seem to have blush. Is that accurate or does it just not come through in the photos?

Pony Corral / Re: Restoration questions: blush and symbols

Makes total sense. I have a kindergartener that can't resist ponies, especially after I give them a spruce up, and honestly I can't blame her :) I love passing the G1 love to a new generation, pardon the pun :)

Wow, thanks for all these tips everyone! I'm hoping to find some good chunks of time for restoration/touch-ups in the coming weeks and you've given me so many great options to explore!

One follow up q if you don't mind--is there anything I need to do to set the blush with the chalk pastels?

Pony Corral / Restoration questions: blush and symbols
« on: November 08, 2021, 08:30:35 PM »
Hi everyone!

Does anyone have a good technique for (re)applying blush to G1's? I tried applying acrylic paints with a qtip but it was a bit of a hot mess...

Also for retouching symbols, what's the secret to getting the paint smooth and flat?

You all have probably already seen this, but I just saw on the Out Now and Coming Soon thread that someone found all four TE's at a Meijer in Indiana! There's a pic too!

Thank you, halicabi!

...there's no need to do a full woven restoration on the hair. You could just add loops with a re-rooting tool and secure with PVa glue.

Thank you for the analysis and advice, Artemisia's Garden! And thanks for also weighing in, lovesbabysquirmy :) I have to buy some needles to rehair Seaflower so I'll add some hair for Buttons to that order!

The method I'm planning on is loops and glue, but, out of curiosity, what is a full woven restoration?

I've just deflocked SS Buttons, but her fresh new look is conflicting with her janky, discolored hair. At the roots of both mane and tail is the nice, original, cerulean blue, but the hair begins to darken and desaturate towards the ends, which end up a dark slate color.

Not sure what caused this as I'm not the original owner, but I'd like to lighten the hair so that it will take dye. So far I've tried sunfading and soaking in hydrogen peroxide, but no luck yet.

Does anyone have any advice on how to lighten or bleach the hair--toothpaste, baking soda, Oxiclean, etc?--or is it just not possible?

Crossing my fingers that I can avoid a complete rehair... :)

Pony Corral / Are Twinkle-Eyed's now in Blain's ???
« on: October 14, 2021, 10:36:25 AM »
Ok, admittedly my enthusiasm for the pending BF TE release may have crossed over into obsession, but...

Instead of "Coming Soon" the website now says "Purchase In Stores Only. Only carried in stores. Visit store for availability and to purchase. Find a Store"

Does this mean TE's are actually in stores now? Can Cracker Barrel be far behind? Does anyone who lives close to a Blain's store have more info?

The 3 sundazzle ponies (with sweetheart sister poses) have crimped hair too. Actually the color scheme of Sweet Notes is very similar to Sundazzle Sunbeam.

And Taffeta, thanks for confirming some Tunefuls have red and others orange hair. I'm in search of her, and have definitely noticed both hair colors. I wondered if the orange hair was a lighting thing or an age thing. Good to know it's just a variant thing :)
