Title: IDing BJD ?
Post by: lovesbabysquirmy on November 30, 2020, 11:51:49 AM
I don't have membership to the many ball jointed doll communities, I just admire from afar.
However, one dolly has caught my interest and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what company she is from!

How on earth do you ID these things?

If you post/link a picture maybe one of us in the BJD community could ID it?  Unless it's a very specific fantasy doll/ fullset a written description probably won't give many clues!

I'm a long-term BJD collector. Maybe I can help if you link me to it  ;)

So far all I have found from translations is that the doll is a MDD type.

Let me see if this works:

Okay well it takes you to the correct image on Pintrest at least LOL

Well, following the trail brings me to the owner on twitter.

#MDD means (Volks) Mini Dollfie Dream, which are vinyl.

I'm at a tiny bit of loss why she doesn't appear to have joints in the picture you posted. It must be a non-volks body, like a silicon body.. I'm not completely familiar with those.

I'm bad at head IDs, maybe it's a DDH-12, or a customized DDH-01 (mouth sanded)? let someone else answer that, lol.

yes I found the owner's Twitter as well.  But it was really no help.... :(  they never identify the doll, they just comment on how cute she is.

I dug through the twitter and found this:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

*_*; which was oddly also my first thought, but I figured that would be a lot of work so that's why I mentioned a silicon body. (There was one pic where it seemed like the knee under some pantyhose was jointed, but I couldn't really tell).

I don't want to add a link to the specific twitter post, because she's wearing a tiny bikini and I think it's inappropriate for this site. But, it is in regards to Nea.
(Also, now I see when other people take pix of Nea and their doll, or group pix (https://twitter.com/Haku1923/status/1201003264201740288/photo/1) the joints are shown).

So... standard MDD body! :)

So otherwise, it's trying to figure out what head is used. It's a custom face up, with a mod to add horns. It's possible the horns are just magnets.

Here is a huge list of heads for Dollfie Dreams:
https://orchiddolls.com/list-of-dollfie-dream-heads

It's gotta be something with square-ish eyes, a tiny nose, and no mouth (or sanded off mouth). I suppose the eye holes are the key. Sometimes it almost seems like the nose is just slightly sanded too.

(I'm terrible at this because face ups always distract me~~)

Although I see a comment where the owner recommends DDH-01 or DDH-12 (w/ the MDD body) heads for someone asking about custom dolls.

Also, custom eyes from here : https://twitter.com/missantroop_
Some of the accessories are from here: https://twitter.com/albadoll227

Oh this is the problem I have with BJD... everything is customized.  I'm not interested in buying parts and pieces and assembling... nope.  Good to know my research hunt has ended though.  Thanks everyone.
