Title: Spa Day: How to make your So Soft hate you.
Post by: Taffeta on July 30, 2017, 11:34:01 AM
So I've been bathing a lot of ponies today, parcels that have built up in my absence. In one of these parcels were six of the most horrible dirty so soft ponies I have ever seen. I didn't even want to touch them, that's how bad they were. They turned the water in the sink brownish and I had to disinfect the sink when I was done :/ It took two rinses to stop Buttons dripping brown water onto the windowsill too.

They necessitated a really thorough bathing with antibacterial shampoo and they will never be mint and perfect but now they are clean.

However, the only way to get a pony that soaked and soapy safely dry is this one...

So I think they probably don't like me very much at the moment...

They did confuse the butterflies and the bees horribly, on the hoist ;)

I am hoping that some of these will find a not-so-condition fussy home at the end of this, because I now have a soft spot for them and they do look much better. But also because I think they probably hate me. And I don't want to be attacked in the night by vengeful fuzzies ;)

Also, Gusty and Paradise in particular look a mile better but still have staining on their fur. Is there anything mild that might do anything about that? I don't like using chemicals. If it is sunny tomorrow I might take them outside again (had to bring them in for the rain) to see if the sun can do anything with the marks, but I would love to hear from experts on this.

Those kind of things are the reason i want a scene in a collector's house in the next Toy Story movie.I want to hear our ponies' reaction to things like this.

Wow, poor things hanging them up by the tail! I wonder what the neighbors would think?  :bolt:

What a clever way of handling that one I'll have to remember. Sorry I don't have a clue how to get rid of the stains. Just had my own version of that two days ago with spa day in  my sink. If anyone had walked in and noticed ponies drip drying.

These are offerings to the pony gods, you are trying to curry favor for luck in pony hunting.

My sister asked if I swung them round and round and I said I didn't dare, else they'd go flying over the fence into the neighbour's garden and they have a rather enthusiastic dog xD. Ironically the other side we have brand new neighbours who do not know yet that they live next door to eccentric people.

It worked though O.o. So Softs are hard to dry out properly so it was effective. The only problem is that if you have a pony with a loose tail...it wouldn't end well. Fortunately these girls didn't have loose tails, so they came through the ordeal just fine ;)

Ponies in my house have always had to be prepared for tail-transit, too. When I was a child that was how I carried them en masse from one place to another. Amazingly I have only a couple of my childhood ponies with loose tails. You can carry far more that way ;)

Hopefully the Pony Gods will help guide home the six ponies a seller accidentally left out of a package which he is hopefully posting now to join their fellows. Because the pony I bought the lot for is actually among those missing ones...

Our bath was covered in ponies for a while today, too. But they have all come up pretty nicely. Tomorrow it's the turn of the baby ponies...

I did the exact same thing when I was a child!

Haha, so funny and mine have traveled by tail transit too!!

I have had great success sun fading both Paradise and SS Gusty so I would give it a try. I also gave them both a gentle bath in cold water and oxyclean before spending a few months in a window. I'm in Canada so no intense sunlight here but being patient paid off.

Well, this is the UK, so probably even more patience required xD. But unfortunately I think the bulk of our summer sun has gone now. Still, I may see what the weather does and try it.

Yo ho, all hands,
Hoist the ponies high!
Heave ho, colts and fillies,
Lest we never dry!

I dare say UK sun would be more effective for SS sunfading anyway, harsher sunlight would yellow the glue before the stains had faded even a little! Be thankful for that beautiful soft sunlight you have, I have to watch mine like a hawk, and can't fade in my new spot at the moment anyway, because we have wild parrots coming in and dropping seed all over them! I've also lost the morning sun too, because our new neighbours built a gigantic house right beside ours, the butt-faces, no more summer breeze, and no more pony fading! I will find a solution however, even if it means a pony-fading rack on the roof of hubby's car!

What you aren't supposed to carry them by the tail?  I just assumed they were like cats.

It is interesting that at pretty much the same time I fished out a grubby Bouncy I got at a comics store some months ago to clean.  I scrubbed it relentlessly but veeery gently with a soft toothbrush and conditioner and nothing else...also seems a little dingy but clean and has a light whiteness to the flocking it didn't have before and it's drying on its bum, tail-down on a wire shelf in my bathroom.  Probably long dry by now.

I begged off using bleach soaks because of advice maybe a year ago, and this is the first SS I've acquired since then so I had no idea what to actually use on it.  I have been hearing some scary things about Oxy lately and my original uncertainty about it has returned (I can't seem to resist overdoing it on concentration etc so i can't really be trusted with anything even slightly dangerous) so I used what I'm confident won't hurt.

You don't know, Taffeta, maybe they are happy enough to be rid of the grime that they still like you even after the humiliating tail-hanging.

The weather is too changeable to do any kind of attempt at fading at the moment, we have had both storm and sun today :/ Also my mother has landed herself in hospital with a chest infection which has made everything a bit chaotic, sister and I are helping Dad out with stuff. My mother is awesome in all regards except taking seriously her impaired immune system, sigh.

Sorry about your mom, I hope she gets better really soon!  :(

Spa days can make the best of us look silly. What matters most is what the end result looks like - perhaps you can make it up to them by posting the after photo's of them looking fabulous?

Thank you for the good wishes! She is doing a lot better today. She had a fever of 39.5 degrees celsius (103 Fahrenheit) on Sunday and the doctors sent her to the hospital but her temperature is down and she was much more herself when we went to see her this afternoon. Hopefully she can come home soon. She keeps sending me texts about how bored she is xD.

I need to take photos of all the duplicate ponies I now have, including the So Softs. They are never going to be perfect but they do look a lot better and at least they look hygenic now. There is a little rainbow colour corner of my carpet in front of my pony cupboard at the moment, with them separated into ponies I am keeping and ponies I am selling, but aside wash and brush them while waiting for hospital news, I haven't had time to do much with them.
