I know this might be a green with envy topic but I love to know. I think for me it is Alt birthflower morning glory. Or maybe my argies. Maybe my rare mail orders I really don't know.
-
I'm only buying my ponies in thrift stores and flea market so they may not be extremely uncommon but I'm proud of them.
- Flat Foot Minty last year, my only FF, unexpectedly found in a thrift store alongside and Italian Firefly (Italian ponies are common in Europe)
- Mommy Bright Bouquet a big month ago, found alongside a faded Posey, G3 Cheerilee and a white G3 baby pony, in a box, in a flea market.
I don't have very sought after ponies otherwise, or at least I don't think so. Is the white-ish variant of Italian Cotton Candy rare ? Because I have three of them now.
-
Lavender Satin n' Lace for $1!! I picked her up as soon as I saw her.
-
In the wild? Probably G2 Seabreeze.
-
in the wild for me it was SO soft satin n lace. Oh once I remember I saw a bunch of MOC ponies I almost fell over. that was great I never saw that booth again. :/
-
Oh, yeah, same here, I remember I came across MOC G2s in the wild a couple of years ago. I think they were 10€ or a bit more. Couldn't afford them. What a shame. =/
I wish I could find other MOCs since, but I've seen none yet. =/

I was very lucky to buy two of my favorites baby surprise and Surprise. I was beyond thrilled but I found the stall again but she didnt have any more MOC ponies there again actually now that I remember. I do miss that luck.
-
I was picking up a lot for a friend, so the pony wasn't actually mine, BUT I got to have my hands on adorable little TAF Baby Sweet Tooth for a few days!
In my own collection I guess that would be the Rollerskating ponies or UK Bluebell or the 3 Greek ponies I found in a local, former collector's lot.
-
SkyCakes : Oh my ! How lucky you ! I have a loose baby Surprise, a bit yellowed but perfect symbol. I really want the adult, she is really cute. (And every other pony with Neon Yellow mane for that matter)
-
Mine aren't very impressive - a Baby Crumpet from Goodwill for 50 cents, and two MOC G2s (Sky Skimmer and Morning Glory) from a flea market in Buffalo, NY.
-
In the wild it's Hollywood for .25 or my baby twin Sleepyhead from the slumberparty gift pack who I got for free because the lasy at the thrift store was so tickled that I was so happy to have found her.
I did have Baby Pineapple, Baby Princess Sparkle and StarSwirl in my childhood collection
-
Ahhh finding rare and uncommon ponies in the wild is the absolute best!
I found 2 Rosey Poseys at a Savers once for like $4.00 total. I also found mama and baby TAF Dancing Butterflies, near mint, at a thrift store for a couple bucks each when I was a kid. More recently I found a lovely little Fancy Mermaid pony (Baby Sea Shimmer) at an antique store for $3.00 in really good condition! But those are the rarest I've found. I'd really love to find more uncommon G1s. Maybe someday!

HOLLYWOOD for TWENTY-FIVE CENTS? HOLY -censored-
How rare is finding Molly with both ribbons and all clothing but her shoes? Or finding Seawinkle (as in, the Year 2 Adult), period?
-
In the wild, mine would be Greek Peachy for a couple $ at the thrift store
-
In the wild, for me - Ice Crystal's comb, and NSS Cupcake :)
-
OOAK Venezuelan Posey, 3$.
Pretty sure I've used up all my pony finding luck for life at this point, given 99% of my mostly-complete collection was thrifted.
-
I've found a few fairly rare ponies in my day. I've been officially collecting for over 20 years, so hopefully I'd have at least one "in the wild" story! No Rapunzels or rare foreign ponies, but I have had the odd bit of pony luck here and there.
I found a winged Dream Beauty(the white one - I'm terrible with names) at a thrift store once for 50 cents. Nice condition too - even had pink hair! I found a magenta Satin and Lace for $8 at a collectible toy store once, factory curls and pink hair too. That was a nice surprise! At the same toy store I found the "Magical Kingdom" porcelain scene for $35. I didn't realize at the time that it was rare, but one sold on ebay for stupid money not long after I found mine. It sat there for at least a full year before I bought it. Nobody wanted it, or nobody knew what it was. I knew of the porcelains, but I never wanted to collect them. It was my birthday, and I wanted a pony. That was the closest thing to a pony I could find, so I thought "why not?". It just needed a bit of a wash with a toothbrush, and it was pretty much mint.
I think one of my luckiest finds was a Mimic at an antique mall. She wasn't cheap, but she was well under $100. And she was pretty close to mint!

In the wild...
All the mountain boys many many times for £1 each or less. Tornado was the hardest to find. Ice Crystal and Thundercloud the most common for me in my area back then :) I had a lot of those to trade over the years :D Wish I still did now :(
A bag of sweetie babies with clips and other rare UK stuff for £2
All three Jewellery babies with rings, £1 each
German Skydancer (Himmelstanzer) for 50p
Diamond Dreams for £1 (not sold in the UK)
Baby Leaper for 20p (not sold in the UK)
Lavender Woosie for £1
Italian Surprise, Heart Throb £1 each (not sold in the UK)
MIB Baby Starburst and Baby Paws (£3 each)
MOC set of best friend babies (£6 set)
MOC set of family babies eg sunbright (£6 set)
Pink Dreams with wings in weird clearance bag £1.25
Glory and Moondancer (for me, the biggest deal as not sold here XD) £1 pair
Gypsy, 30p
Spanish Strawberry Fair 30p
MIB Fleecy and Woolly £3.50
...Other than that, Susie (alt OOAK promotional version) on ebay for $21.
I also traded for a lot of my mail order and rarer ponies with ponies found from the carboot sale, so they essentially cost me carboot sale prices as well, £1 or less each.
And I remember one big tub of pony accessories including nearly all the ponywear sold in the UK, princess wands, hats, dragons (all 6) big brother hats, most bandanas and sundry other pony bits...£10 the lot.
My sister often got given dragons for free, but they usually only cost about 5p at carboot back then :D

At the goodwill pay per pound bins (in WI)... Baby school bag and a non-glitter symbol release gusty. I was absolutely floored.
-
Mine would be- Wind Walker dream beauty for .50 cents, Bunny Hop with pink hair & pocket bunny intact, a quarter, Rama Llama a quarter, Sea Mist's conch shell .10 cents, Mimic $2, & Rosey Posey $3
Mimic was from a lot for sale in my local classified ads. The conch shell was from a thrift, & the rest were yard sale ^.^ :)

every time someone posts the pay per pound toys i get so jealous because i have been to every goodwill in my area and they dont have anything like that. all they have are pre-packaged cheap manufactured toys

Hopefully you will find better pony luck in the future. Or maybe a nice baby surprise and mom. :)

How the ***** did all these Greek ponies find their way to Alberta Canada?
-
I found piggy Minty in a thrift store in Seattle a few years ago. What a well-traveled pony!

They also graze. Beware nibbled carpets.

The only rare finds I've every stumbled across in the wild was 4/6 of the TAF babies in the toy bin at my local charity shop. Baby Sugarberry, Baby Milky Way, Baby Love Melody, and Baby Sweet Tooth, each for $1.00! And that's $1.00 AUD, so probably something like 75c each in USD. I dug through the rest of the toys but couldn't find any other ponies, but I suppose I was being greedy to have hoped that Baby Dancing Butterflies and Baby Up Up and Away were in there too! I held off on buying these babies for years because they were so ridiculously expensive, and then fate dropped four of them into my lap for $4.00. And they were in excellent condition too! Honestly I doubt I can ever top that find!

Man congrats thats very lucky. I probably would of dug in there too trying to find the missing two. Were you able to find other other missing two someday?
-
I've rarely found anything mlp in my neck of the woods in Maine but I have found the Tropical baby pegasus (Palm Tree?) in a flea market free bin and more recently the baby dragon that goes to one of the G2 unicorns in a bag with a lot of other misc accessories for $2
-
in the wild for me it was my sister finding a winger, I think she is tropical breeze, the one with the green hair. She does have a bit of a trim but her wings are intact, and she is in really good shape for a quarter.
-
Italy Tootsie with purple hair. I think she was the 2nd ever found.
-
2 G4 Twinkleshines. found them days within eachother at different thrift stores
-
ok I just saw there was another glow and show pony that's in star dancer pose??
I cannot stand ebay now I can't pull up original listings but here's a newly discovered prototype?? I would love to know the history

and I think my other favorite was a birthday pony that had the yellow on her that I think was an escapee from the RI factory as well
this one = thanks wiki (and the owner!)

man...wish these ponies could talk and give us the creative scoop on why they weren't put into production

I still haven't got Baby Dancing Butterflies or Baby Up Up and Away, they're so insanely expensive. It doesn't help that the currency conversion from USD to AUD makes every pony I import very expensive, so ponies who are already pricey to begin with are a significant expense by the time they finally end up in my hands. One day I'll get them, but probably not soon!

I saw that lot: it went for crazy money.
Congrats everyone on finding so many great ponies!
For myself: I have only ever found 2 (yes: two) ponies in the wild. They were Cotton Candy and Coco Berry. Neither rare in the slightest.
On our local auction site I have bought Scandanavian Truly with differently coloured symbols, Scandanavian Cupcake (she has a forelock trim), Munchy and Night Glider. Of the four I can only say that I paid a decent market-related price for Night Glider. The others were below market price, but this will not happen now: ponies have become crazy expensive in SA over the past 6 months or so. One exception was the Secret Surprise Mommy pony (no twins) who went for a steal. Not to me though; to a fellow collector who I do not bid against by mutual agreement.

When I see prototypes come up like that, I can't help but wonder if they originated in the cave of wonders...When Helen's collection got dispersed, a lot of treasures went out into the wilderness. She never bragged about any of the stuff she'd acquired, so I always wonder whether these things are really newly discovered or if they're actually things she had 20 years ago that ended up passing through different hands to now.
They are very cool, though. Congrats to whoever adopted them. It seems like they did a lot of experimenting with sparkle pony bodies to make the glowing magic thing work. It makes me wonder if there's also a sky rockety one (Starglow colour) out there...
As for the Birthday Pony, she, along with the yellow/white haired Starglow are two ponies I would love to see in person. I don't need to own them, but my curiosity about such things makes me want to peer at them xD. I've been lucky enough to see some amazing ponies at ponycon, but those two I don't think have ever been on this side of the atlantic :/
-
Mine would probably be Quackers. But I didn't find her, my dad did, for 50p! Shes very well loved because I got her a good 10 years ago and I wasn't exactly the most careful child... Her symbols are perfect still though.
-
The person selling that prototype was Baby Gloomy (eBay name) . . . That name rings a bell, I think she was a collector from way back in the day.
-
Yellow haired Starglow?

Yes, I agree, I remember her name too. That's what made me think of the cave of wonders. I mean, even if not from that collection, there were people back then exchanging these kinds of things without us ever getting to know about them.

@Cookifaa - if that was here in the UK, then that counts. She wasn't sold here, so definitely super rare ;)

I wouldn't worry about it sometimes we think the ponies that are the most rarest are unobtainable and life likes to throw curve balls maybe you might get lucky. :)
-
A very pretty 'Peachy' who was an 'extra' in a lot I bought for some other ponies in it. She is actually Macau Nelly!
I guess rarity depends upon where you are in the world too, some of my other ponies are sought-after UK releases.

In the wild? The toy fair petites..... 3 full sets. It was some hoarder guy having a yard sale, he kept them in a jar in the bathroom. I sold two sets and kept one for myself.
-
My best finds in the wild:
Italian Polly (white body, pink hair and hearts) for $3 tops the list. I walked away from that table (antique fair) in a daze. She had a pink saddle on and some part of an outfit so it wasn't immediately noticeable that she was a non-US pony, let alone one that was so special. I thought she was a faded Peachy at first.
My other more memorable finds were Hollywood, Munchy, Yum Yum, Taffeta and Pristina for $3-4 each, and a good bundle of accessories in a big ziploc bag for $6 (assorted big brother, twin and princess accessories).
My best online finds? Probably lavender Woosie MIB, I think I paid $80 or so?
Otherwise I would say most of the second set sea ponies and their shells (Sand Dollar etc) cheap hiding in lots or BINs on eBay.
