They're very cute and I do love them, but I would assume being just the Core 7 (+ three moms) plays a big role in why no one's voted for it as their #1 favorite yet.

Without question its G1. I grew up with these ponies so I love them. G3 is my second favorite if I had to pick one.

G3 for me. Those shiny ones, oh my god. I just want to stare at them forever! I love the firm plastic and thick colorful hair. Small magnets are also a nice touch.
But I couldn't choose between G1 and G4 if I made to. G4 is the thing that got me into ponies. I mean I liked G3 as a kid, but not that much. The shapes and variety of G1 is that would probably make me choose it over G4.
I actually like G3.5 and their big heavy heads with lots of hair to brush. And G2s are just so bright and graceful!

How do I even choose?!

I think a lot of people here grew up with it, that's why.

The one you grew up with isn't always your favorite, but it often is.

That said, G1 is definitely one of the superior ones, especially if your talking about the toyline, which most people here probably are (I admit I was thinking of the cartoons more when I voted).

I think I'm backwards when it comes to show vs toys. I see people nowadays getting upset because a G4 toy doesn't match the show closely enough for their tastes, which seems to imply that it should be show>toy. But to me, the toys came first and the show is developed around them.

In G1 it was very clearly supposed to be show<toy, with the show being carefully currated to showcase whatever the current toy collection or playset was as an overglorified commercial.  I seem to recall kids being excited to see their toy character being rotated onto the show rather than their show character being made into a toy. It seems like there's a lot of love for the G1 show, and I feel like I'm a villain for never really liking it all that much. I found it too shallow. The toys on the other hand, I had endless love for their creativity, character, and seemingly endless variety.

G4 for me is reversed. Static poses and endless repetition on the toy end. Sometimes deeply thought out themes and plots on the show with even background characters getting fleshed out. G4 for me is about the show and I find I don't care enough to hunt down the toys with as much fervour.

Since I grew up with a focus on the toys, G1 all the way. (It's not that I don't like all the others too though!)

G3. I got into MLP with FiM/G4, but once I saw the G3 toys, I started becoming a collector. They're just so beautiful, there are so many really pretty colorings and themes/symbols.

G1 will always be my favourite, hands down.  I'm fond of G3 and G4 ponies, but they don't fuel my passion as much as the original vintage G1s.
