Repainting blush?
« on: March 10, 2012, 04:01:51 PM »
How do you guys do it? I've tried it once before on Masquerade, and it came out great using chalk, but now I'm trying the same method on a Peach Blossom and it's just not absorbing? I've also tried acrylic paint with a q-tip bit it leaves a reddish ring and then it's empty in the middle, if that makes sense? I need some tips - I am so bad at painting and I've already spent waaaaay too long trying to fix this.

Thanks!
Denise

Personally I've had good luck using chalk pastels on a Q-Tip or MakeUp Sponge. I use an exacto knife to shave a little off, pick it up with whatever applicator at hand, and then dab away.

I just did this on a masquerade and I basically just dabbed it on with my finger. I blotted my finger first on a napkin then dabbed it on. Then I polished it with cloth and rubbed really hard. Repeated till it was proper shade. Not sure if that will help with the newer pony but maybe it will.

I use chalk pastel, eyeshadow or blush in the color I want; I apply with a qtip, flip the qtip to the clean side to blend the edges and sometimes use my finger a little too then seal it with testor's dullcote.

Hmmm...what kind of chalk are you using? When I tried polishing the chalk, it just rubbed off completely! Peach Blossom's cheek is really shiny and smooth, so could that be why it's not absorbing?

I'm a dummy. By "it" I mean paint >.< not chalk.

Ok, so - what kind of paint? This is making me craaaaaaaazy! The paint won't "absorb" into the pony's cheek!

Has anyone ever had to lightly sand the cheek area? Or even paint some kind of clear dull paint as a primer?

The worst part is, she has a scratch on her cheek and the paint just pools in the little scratch and doesn't stay on the pony's face....

I just used acrylic. This was a g1 pony so maybe it was more porus?

I've also used very soft lip liner pencils--dabbing a bit on and smudging/blending by hand or with a cotton swab.  You do have to seal it afterward so it doesn't rub off, but it goes on more easily than some other media.

This is the blush I managed to get using my method, just to show an example. For some reason though this photographs HORRIBLY with flash.

See, I think Masquerade looks FANTASTIC! I wish I could figure out *why* the chalk isn't staying!?!!??

@Raindrop- lip liner! GREAT idea, but I don't have sealer :/

Does anyone know of any other methods?

Thanks to all who responded so far.

On a restore, I used a lil bit of red lipstick and rubbed it in and let it stain the cheeks.

I use blush. You can make it as dark or light as you want by just going over it again.
