Off Topic / Fashion advice- my white skirt is see-through
« on: June 06, 2014, 02:38:10 AM »
So I bought a fairly cheap jersey skirt in white, it goes down to my ankles and is fitted over my thighs (sits fairly tight over them) but not over my calves. It's unfortunately pretty see-through (didn't know this when I bought it as it was via Ebay) even with nude colored underwear since you can clearly see I'm wearing nude colored underwear  I'd rather avoid sewing since I'm poor at it and am not much for going through all that trouble when the skirt didn't cost me much >_<

I've tried nude colored leggings that stop just a few inches above my knee but then you can see the seams of the leggings >_< Any ideas of what I can do? I've tried finding nude colored leggings that stop mid-calf but can't seem to find any

Off Topic / Today (May 1st) is my 35th birthday!!!
« on: May 01, 2014, 06:36:39 AM »
So today I turn 35

So far it's been an ok day since the sun is out and it's not that cold :) Haven't gotten any presents yet as my hubby will be giving me his when he gets home from work and I'm holding my party tomorrow and will be getting my presents from the in-law family then :)

I seriously doubt I'll be getting any ponies but I'll update with pics of my presents on Saturday since it'll be a late night tomorrow :frolic: Unfortunately since I'm currently trying to conceive, I won't be able to drink very much alcohol which is a bit of a bummer because the wine looks really good  I'll have to just be ok with taking a few sips of my husband's glass :P

Off Topic / Newbie pierced ears question
« on: March 07, 2014, 04:44:16 AM »
This isn't a problem per say so I'm posting here. If it should be in the WYP forum, please move this mods :)

My ear piercings have finally healed and I dare now to change earrings. The only problem is that while changing them, the lobes often go red (and a bit warm) but the redness subsides after a few minutes when the new earrings have been in for a while and no problems afterwards until I have to change them again (e.g. if I wear very lightweight danglies to a party and change over to studs before I go to bed) I'm currently only using earrings made of sterling silver (bought at reputeable stores) or surgical steel (316L) so it's not allergies I think, especially since the redness goes away.

I'm wondering if it's because I'm a newbie and I fumble a bit with taking them off and on, especially those butterfly backs that can be hard to get off sometimes?

So is it normal for ears to go red and then go back to normal the first few times you change earrings or is it a sign of a problem? Does this stop happening when I get more experienced at it? They been pierced for a few years but due to me being stupid a few times, took longer to heal than they should have (won't go into details). I was pierced at a real piercer who's well known for being very good if that helps any :)

The Dollhouse / Looking for preferably loose Monster High Heath Burns doll
« on: November 07, 2013, 02:26:32 AM »
I'm looking for a loose MH Heath Burns that's in mint condition. I'm a bit picky about the eyes so they should be as evenly placed as possible and either none or only extremely minor faults in the paint of eyes and hair. I didn't want to start a new account just for this so here's hoping someone will see this and can help me :)

If no one has a Loose one, I'll maybe just get the set he's in here in Denmark if no one can beat the total Price (set plus shipping costs) of $71 (which is the cost of the set here).

Off Topic / Meet Chani, my super cute kitty:)
« on: September 04, 2013, 06:29:49 AM »
Hi everyone,

I realized today that I've not formally introduced my new kitty that I've had for about 8 months now. So I'm going to correct that error now :P

As some may know, my old cat Sierra died October 2012 at the age of 16 due to liver failure. Here's one of the only pictures I have of her :

After a 3 month mourning period, I decided I was ready for to have another kitty to love. So my husband and I got our new cat at a shelter (sooo hard not taking them all home :lovey:). I wanted so much to save a cat rather than buy one from a breeder as they need a good home more since many go for purebreds. She's a blue & White housecat (semi long haired) and is now almost 2 years old. She was, unfortunately, not treated very well by the woman who had her. The poor cat, in the beginning, would shy away from your hand if you tried to pet her and lightly bite you if you petted her in a way she didn't like :( Now she's much better and walks up to strangers to say hello. She's very playful and loves furry mice with bells in them. Her favourite place to sleep is at the foot of our bed on my side and she will often follow me around the house. She's a good deal smaller than most cats, perhaps a runt of the litter? But great things come in small packages :lovey:

So without further ado, here's Chani:

Sorry for the pic overload, I'm such a proud kitty mom :P

Off Topic / Got a job!!! FINALLY!
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:56:54 AM »
Hi everyone,

As many know, I've had huge problems getting a job with tenure despite having both a Master's degree (in biotechnology) and a Lab Tech degree.

Back in March, I got a little student assistent job (6-8 hours a week), a job I only got because my mother knows a printer that does stuff for the company. I've applied for similar positions before but always got rejected because the companies have felt I'm over qualified. The job has been ok but I don't make much money and it's incredibly boring (not doing any real lab work really, mostly labelling stuff and other ad hoc work in the lab). Not only that but the woman slightly in charge of me has been horrible and has been giving me nasty jibes, there have been days were she brought me close to tears  Saying things like (to Norwegian guests) "... and that's Katrine, she's ONLY our student assistent" and "How is it to work so much this week, is it hard for you??" Everyone else is really nice but she's been horrible :yikes:

I've of course been applying for jobs since (both full-time and part-time of 20 hours/week or more). Recently I was at an interview at a hospital for a job were they wrote that the chosen person would be trained for the position. It's part-time of 23 hours/week (3 whole workdays a week). Despite what I felt was a catastrophic interview (answered a couple of questions less than optimal and they laughed a lot), I got the job :accomplished: :yippee: :yippee: :cheer: :cheer:

It took in all 6 years (got my Lab Tech degree during) but I finally made it, so incerdibly psyched :straw: :frolic:

Off Topic / Update on my job interview today-HELP!
« on: May 22, 2012, 05:23:29 AM »
I tried to bump my previous thread that asked for help but couldn't so here's an update for anyone who's interested

Ok so I just got home from my interview :)

For the curious, I arrived on time and was really nervous (think they could tell but I mentioned it afterwards anyway and we laughed about it  ). They were really nice and seemed to think even though I lack experience that I'm a good candidate for the job. They didn't see my Master's Degree as a problem (some companies have told me it means I'm too over qualified to be a Lab Tech), they saw it as a positive asset to the job. They asked me the dreaded "how much would you expect in salary" at the end of the interview and a tour of the labs and I answered minimum wage for a newly-educated Lab Tech as a starting point. No problem. They asked when could I start and I said "Tomorrow would work for me" :) I think they liked that and started saying that they should then call the 4 others and cancel their interviews  I was the first one of the 5 called in, don't know if that's an advantage  Also they asked if they could call my 1 of or maybe even both of my references from my trainee period and 3 month extension and I said that would be fine, I'm sure they're gonna sell me real good :)

They don't want to promise anything but they said they got a really good impression of me and will call tomorrow late afternoon with the decision :yikes:

I'm not counting on anything so as not to get too disappointed if it's a no but I'm glad it went well and that they saw the positives instead of focusing on my lack of experience :P

So late last night at around 1 AM here, I was stupid enough to fall for a phishing scam that notified me of a cancelled bid and stupidly was trying to figure out which item by linking in through the item number mentioned. I then "logged in" to a fake site that looked exactly like the Ebay sign in page

This morning at around 8 AM I checked the now suspicious email on the net and found out it was definitely a phishing scam and checked my account. Everything looked fine so I did as Ebay suggested on their site and changed my password and secret question right away. That was around 8:20 AM.

I am so nervous about this and need to know if anyone thinks I still might have a problem or have I avoided a huge problem by reacting now

Off Topic / Job interview went well..... I think (see pg 2):)
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:43:38 AM »
So as some of you may know, I have both a Master's Degree in Biotechnology (2007) and recently got my Lab Tech degree (2011). Also some of you may know I've been to about 3 interviews in the past 6½ months I've been unemployed. The most recent one I was hopeful but got rejected due to lack of experience even though they really liked me. So tired of that excuse :stressed: :pullhair:

Anyway I just got called in for an interview for a Lab Tech job at a university on Tuesday the 22nd and need some advice on the whole "3 weaknesses and 3 strengths" question. Luckily last time they only asked for one weakness and I stupidly enough used self-critical which one of the interviewers understood as me being insecure even though that's not what I meant so bad answer I guess  I also have listed perfectionist since I can use it also as a positive thing but not sure if it's the best answer. My third weakness was impatient but that's probably not a good answer  Strengths I have analytical mind-set, thorough and my persistence but are those the best ones for a Lab Tech job. So any guesses on what I can use for weaknesses and strengths (would like to have 3 of each prepared) and would be good for a Lab Tech job :what:

Also I don't have much experience some of the methods (some have experience in from my Lab Tech and M. Sc. studies and during my 1 year trainee period and the 3-month extension at the company I was at) while the others I have theoretical knowledge which I was upfront about in my application. So how do I sell myself well enough that they'll want to hire me despite the fact I'm not very experienced?

Off Topic / Help with ear piercing concerns :P
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:32:25 AM »
Ok so about 3 years ago, I got my lobes pierced at a professional piercers since I always had dreamed of getting them pierced and at the age of 29, finally got it done :P  Everything went well since he was a real stickler for hygiene and making sure the holes were even :) Everything was going well after that and I was washing them either with the anti-bacterial soap my piercer recommended or saline water. Things were going slow but since my hubby's little brother's girlfriend (now his ex :( ) had told me it took her 2 years to fully heal her ears, I was hopeful and thinking I'm just a slow healer like her. Then stupid me changed 2 times to stud earrings that were obviously not sterling silver or had some metal in it that I didn't tolerate well, eiher way, the last pair I put in had caused a horrible infection (milky white pus :X ). I was advized by the guy who pierced me and my hubby's little brother (has 2 piercings himself and has had some experience in this area) to change to surgical steel studs, which I did. After that, healing went a lot better and I only had extremely minor infections in the right ear (the slowest healer of the two), the last time was last year in 2011 around February or March, very very minor and gone after a couple of washing sessions with the soap. Since then, I'm careful not to touch them too much (was one of my problems) and can now turn the studs freely in the ears and when I wash them 1-2 times a week, it's with the recommended soap, no pain or anything for over a year now. So I'm thinking that they must be healed and I can finally change them to some of the beautiful earrings that I've bought over the last 3 years and that have been collecting dust :P

But I'm a chicken after all the problems I had those first 2 years so I need reassurance that it'll be fine and that I'm just being very silly

Trader & Shipping Support / Requested invoice-no response
« on: March 23, 2012, 03:32:54 AM »
So I purchased a MH doll on Ebay UK on Monday the 19th  and asked the buyer who's in the UK if they would ship to DK since it looked like he only ships to the UK and if so, could I pay them on the 26th when I get my tax return. They said that yes, they would ship to Denmark and that yes it was fine for me to first pay that day. So I happily BIN'ed and requested an invoice with the shipping price (there's no shipping price when you go in to pay). I have requested an invoice 2x and sent a Ebay message 2x asking about the shipping price but no answer. The seller was otherwise very fast to answer my 2 questions prior to me purchasing so this seems a little weird  Maybe he's waiting until the weekend to send it but still strange he's not answering.

The seller has around 260 feedback, 100% positive. He had a number of items for sale when I bought the doll , then nothing for sale and now his items are up again.

I'm planning on waiting until the agreed payment date before getting nervous but what to do if the invoice never comes  In the messages I get from Ebay about remembering to pay, it states £10 for shipping. So if I don't get an invoice, should I pay for the doll + £10 for shipping or should I contact the seller again and count on he'll let me know if it's not enough for shipping or if it is, he'll send the doll?

Trader & Shipping Support / Need help with Ebay seller ASAP!
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:30:45 PM »
Actually I'm asking this for my husband since it's his purchase that has gone wrong :(
So my husband purchased on the 29th of February a couple of dolls for me as an early birhday present, yay :frolic: He waited a bit on payment because unfortunately he's a bit of a procrastinater so he first paid on the 5th of March and didn't think any more of it. So one would think this was fine since it's within 7 days (seller didn't state any time period for payment in the auction so isn't the default 7 days?).

So today I asked my husband if he had yet received an email on when my new dolls would be sent. He then told me that it looks like he got his money refunded so I'm thinking why :what:  I check his Ebay account and in his message inbox is a "unpaid item case" that was opened on the 5th of March and says he must pay by the 9th of March or else   So I ask him to log onto his PayPal account and sure enough, he DID pay on the 5th of March like he remembered but she refunded the same day AND opened the case, all on the 5th of March
So is it just me or is something terribly wrong here :yikes: :what:

Is there any advice on what can be done??

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure she/he has sold the dolls to another buyer. The last set was BIN'ed on the 4th of March so we have a sneaking suspicion that she just sold his set without waiting. I'm like 95% sure the seller had 6 sets and all of a sudden it says 7 sets sold and the auction has ended.
Ok the case has been closed the 5th of March (same day it was opened) but otherwise it stated:

"We have opened an unpaid item case for Coffret cadeau Monster High Cléo de Nile et Deuce Gorgon.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
If payment isn't received by 09-Mar-12, the seller may withdraw from the contract and you would no longer be entitled to receive this item. Additionally, an unpaid item may be recorded on your account, which could lead to your account being suspended.

If you've paid and believe payment should have been received by now, please contact Customer Support
." So if the seller sold the item to someone else after being paid, isn't there something wrong? So shouldn't the seller should be obliged to send the item if she/he was paid, it's not our problem they refunded the same day he paid and created this whole mess.

Wanted! / Seeking Mattel Hercules doll and Pegasus:) MEGARA FOUND!
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:45:17 PM »
So I really really want the Fashion Secrets Megara doll where she's in her purple dress and a Golden Glow Hercules doll :lovey: The problem is they're sooo expensive on Ebay with the huge shipping costs and the huge taxes I'd have to pay so I was hoping someone could offer them cheaper :hope:
I'm very open to buying them already opened to keep costs down but my only demand is that Megara's hair is as close to perfect as possible, the paint jobs on both dolls' faces are perfect and Hercules' hair is also without any bad rubs, preferbly on the back so no one sees and only very very minor if possible. I'd in the end need to see pics to make a final judgment on whether the doll or dolls are up to the standards :)
I really wish Disney would make these 2 so new fans can get them cheaper
If the mods feel I'd have better luck in "The Dollhouse" forum, please feel free to move it there as I wasn't sure were to put this to get a bigger response
UPDATE January 31st 2012: My wonderful husband just bought me a Megara doll MIB :frolic:  So I only need a Hercules doll, preferably in really good condition (mint-near mint) to match :P
I'm also in the market for a Magic Wings Pegasus, also by Mattel :lovey:
