No, I have a navy family.  Except for me and my uncle, we were in the Air Force, but like everyone else was in the navy, and it's a navy song, and my father, mother, and grandfather played for the navy, so i learned the song a million years ago.

DON'T look the song up, you'll NEVER get it out of your head, it's worse than the Macarena.

No, that would stop the ship.  You have to pull the anchor up in order to go anywhere.  It technically can just be up enough to no longer be on the seabed, but it comes from the idea that the ship is bearing the weight of the anchor.  Every time I see the phrase, I hear the song in tinny beeps in my head, from an ancient game we had on my father's IBM PC, I think it was called Sub Com.  It was like 1985. (I think, it was a long time ago, I just remember the beeps.  It was like Lode Runner era)

Yep.  "Anchors aweigh" is an order, it means "to weigh anchor" which is to pick the anchor up out of the water and put it on the ship, it means to get underway.  Technically, throwing the anchor "away" means the opposite.  It sounds like you're throwing the anchor off the ship, which stops the ship.

This pony bothers me more than any other pony, because the phrase is "anchors aweigh".  Her name makes me itch.
