Poorly placed plugs and hair loss
« on: September 26, 2012, 06:14:46 PM »
My Baby Bright Bouquet's teal stripe is actually two narrow stripes - the middle section of the stripe is missing. The stripe plugs run up the back of her ear and the hair remaining in the stripe seems very poorly secured, as I managed to pull out the top plug accidentally while examining the stripe.

Is the hair loss likely a result of the poor plug placement? She is in super condition other than factory issues (bad head placement) except for this one problem.

She's a tiny bit grubby and could use a cleaning, but I'm reluctant to even try it knowing her stripe is so loose. Do I pop her head off and try to anchor the remaining hair? Do I rehair the stripe? Do I leave her vaguely dirty for all time to avoid more hair loss? Help me!

honestly? I think it may have to do with it not being glued in place properly but I could be wrong <3

Misplaced or offset plugs happen a lot...considering the number of ponies which were sold at the time and the standard Chinese quality control from factories in the 80s, issues like this are not surprising.

It could be that the hair is not woven and glued in properly yes, or it could be that the plugs were simply missed when the pony was being haired or that the hair has been pulled out over the years. However, if some of the strands came out when you were just holding her, I would guess the glue is missing or broken down at least on the teal stripe area.

I would rehair her with a few strands and pop her head off and add some glue or stitching to hold the hair in place [as the plugs look to large too hold the hair in without glue or stitching anchoring them on the inside.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I have some atomic turquoise on hand and it does match - looks like babygirl is going to get a new stripe over the weekend. ;)
