So recently I've gotten into an art slump because I realized my drawings are too generic. I got advice from a professor about it, and he said that I should draw really simple things that are good for my skill level. Like Charlie Brown, Cyanide and Happiness, and Power Puff Girls simple. It took my stubborn brain a while to realize that he was telling me to go back to basics, and that its a really good exercise. I'm trying, but everything comes out so unappealing, unimaginative, and all together blander than dry fat free whole wheat toast . In a nutshell, how do I get out of this funk and what can I do to make my work pop and stand out? Thanks for everything!

I'm trying to figure out how to fluff up the yarn I have so that I can cover this monstrosity and make it look more poodle like. The convention is tomorrow, so if you have any suggestions at all please do not hesitate to tell me. It's 9:03 pm here. I really need some help.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Phone photo tips?
« on: April 22, 2014, 11:33:38 PM »
So I'm not really sure if this goes in the art section or not, but I have a quick question about taking pictures with your phone.

The only scanner in this house is a small old one from 2000-something, and it's too small for me to scan things from my sketchbook with. Since I really wanted to put some pics on my site and stuff I've been using my phone to take pictures and the like. My problem is that they come out like this:

So my shadow ends up taking up space in the picture or things get blurred.
Does anyone know how to handle this?

This thing right here: http://sorrelsketchedthis.wordpress.com/2014/04/19/drops-of-jupiter/

Technology is being a butt face so it goes all wonky when you click on it.

Any who like the description says I don't hate it. I actually kinda like it.

Also I'm wondering if I should start doing commissions. I want to take requests first as a sort of test run, but I'm not sure if I should do that either. :1

And being a mature adult I had to tell everyone within a five mile radius about these things.

I'm both freaked out and highly amused.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Puppets! (and WIP Furfrou puppet thing!)
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:11:56 PM »
I really like puppets, especially marionettes. I have this pink and white dog one that looks like the 2-legged things on this site: http://www.puppetville.com/yarn-marionettes/
Years ago when I was a kid I used it for talent shows and junk like that. It was tons of fun!

Ever since last year I've had the urge to make a giant marionette type puppet thing. The only thing is that I have no idea what I'm doing.

This year I want to make a huge four legged furfrou puppet for no reason other than to say that I got off my lazy butt and did something with my life (and in case I decide that a Skullgirls cosplay is too hard for me to to make and a Pokemon trainer thing turns out to be the smarter option).

Are there any puppet makers out there with any ideas on what to do?

And also any puppet makers/ collectors who feel like showing off and letting me see there awesome puppets? I'm really in a puppet mood right now.

The Dollhouse / Catwalk Kitties and Jet Set Pets

So ever since I saw Catwalk Kitties I've been very interested in anthro fashion dolls.

Catwalk Kitties are anthropomorphic cats that work in a modeling agency. They were around in 2006 and 2007 I think, but after that they disappeared off the face of the Earth. I have only have one of them), and I doubt that I'll ever get another one.

Recently I found out about Pinkie Cooper dolls: dogs that run a fashion blog. They look so adorable, and since they reminded me a bit of the cats I thought it was necessary to draw this little crossover picture. Pinkie got an internship. I think she might be happy about it.

Customs / Fakie customs?
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:28:07 PM »
I haven't been working on any customs lately. I've been busy, I need to buy an airbrush, and I ended up misplacing some of the parts to the ponies I was working on (organization at its finest, folks!) One of the things that I was trying to do was customize a cute little fakie that I had for decades. It was one of those Tara Pony Luv fakies that could drink and wet itself. I kinda just remembered that one, and that got me thinking about fakies. Now I'm in the mood to see a lot of them. Does anyone have any fakie customs that they can show me?

Pony Corral / Are there any G4 toys out that are not part of the mane six?
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:20:10 AM »
Hi all. I'm not sure where to put this.

I just wanted to know if they still made different ponies or if everything is now the mane six and a few extras from the show.

You see, I wanted to buy to ponies for my little cousin as a very belated Christmas gift. I went to Target and searched for some. The last ponies that I bought were from when this G4 thing had just started, so I only saw the mane six in the store. I was thinking that I'd find some different ponies now, but all I saw were different versions of the same six and a few tiny figurines of the show's extras. I'm not upset or anything, but I really wanted to get my cousin a pony that was different. Do they make other ponies?

Off Topic / Opinions needed
« on: July 12, 2013, 03:26:29 AM »
Last week I made a topic about my Vanellope Von Schweets cosplay and how to make my led lights shine brighter. One of the forum members suggested buying better lights. I went with her idea, and bought two el wire lights. They shine beautifully, but are very dull under the fabric. I was thinking of giving in and stuffing my jacket with the led lights then attaching the el wire to the outside of the jacket and skirt of the cosplay.I wanted to get the cute glitch affect that Vanellope has in the movie.

I just wanted to know if anyone would think that lights outside of the cosplay would look tacky. They are magenta when they are off, light blue when they are on, and would be attached to a mint green jacket and a brown skirt.

I am sorry if this post sounds a little off. I was up all night trying to finish off some of my cosplay and now I am too tired to write properly.

Off Topic / Hi everyone! I have a quick question for cosplayers.
« on: July 02, 2013, 12:12:53 AM »
Hello.

This year I decided to cosplay as Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph. Since she is my favorite character (and since I have a history of horrible cosplay), I wanted this to look spectacular. I decided to ad a string of LED lights to the jacket in order to get the glitch affect that Vanellope has in the movie. I tried placing the lights in the jacket in order to get an idea of how they would look when the costume is done. Unfortunately, it did not come out the way I expected. The lights shine bright, but they only appear as individual spots. What I need is for them to give off that glow affect that looks like one unified light.

It's hard to explain, and I don't have any photos of the actual jacket, but I can give examples. What I want is a glow affect similar to the one that fibre optic fabric gives off, and not the one you'd see if you put Christmas lights in your shirt.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

Off Topic / I am just curious.
« on: December 13, 2012, 09:13:26 PM »
Do you remember the fan character trends from 2004 to 2007, like how every character was Inuyasha's long lost little sister from another dimension and had a dark past, became a goth, or was secretly a princess?
     I'd like to know:
1. Did you ever have fan characters like this? Could you tell me about them?
2. What are the fan character trends for 2012?

I'm curious because I just remembered my old Krypto the Super Dog fan characters: A wolf based off of Wonder Woman and a hawk based off of Hawk Girl. They were terrible copies of the heroes they were based on, and were only created because I hated the fact that there were more male super pets than female super pets when I was little.

Customs / Here Comes the Bride (WIP Pics)
« on: August 04, 2012, 09:28:25 PM »
It's great to be back on this site. How is everybody? Is everyone happy? Yes? No? Maybe so?
***
I like to post pictures of my customs when I finish them. However, I was away from this site for far too long and needed to post something.
Gaze upon the terror that is Here Comes the Bride. This custom refuses to cooperate. The paint looks messy, I can't reattach the legs to the body, the symbol is not finished, and its a bit filthy (I don't even know why). I started this custom in July (I think). Lets hope I can finish this monstrosity soon. :argh:

The moral of the story is: G2 customs are not for amateurs.

Customs / Question about G2 Customs
« on: June 18, 2012, 10:40:49 PM »
(I'm half asleep right now, so if anything seems weird just ignore it .)
So I was wondering if anyone knew what the standard size for G2 eye-gems was. Also, What kind of rhinestones work best? Thank you, and goodnight.
