Pony Corral / Re: the main problem of the G5
« on: June 22, 2024, 06:58:47 PM »
MLP's core product (the actual basic ponies, I loathe the term 'brushables' when that is the MAIN product, those ARE the titular ponies) has been in steady decline since G3.5, becoming smaller and cheaper with less hair and much less character variety.
I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't seem to get the 'collect them all' mentality which I feel helped drive sales in previous gens - like if kids nowadays don't like one of the main 5-7 characters they're pretty much out of luck whilst there was bound to be at least one they could latch onto in the past given the sheer number of characters and designs.
If they wanted the large ensemble cast to work within an animated show/multimedia, have it so that the 'main' characters are constantly traveling or something, always meeting new friends and going to new places! I have conceptualized something like this myself for how I'd do a new gen - variety is key!

The Dollhouse / Re: Monster High returns again!
« on: June 15, 2024, 08:00:38 PM »
Yeah I'm kind of puzzled why they went with Toradeen. They look cute together, like... aesthetically, and I'm definitely not against either of them liking ladies (lol I'd be a hypocrite if I was, I ship Tora/Catrine and I've always kinda liked Clawdeen/Draculaura), but them liking each other? Personality-wise it seems like an odd pairing? never paid too close attention to any canon past the diaries so idk maybe there's something in a cartoon ep or w/e that hinted towards them... but it seems very random to me tbh ^^;

That's the issue - they were consistently shown to genuinely dislike eachother so this pairing is literally out of nowhere (there is ZERO buildup across all of G1 canon prior to this), which makes it feel like it's literally just pandering for Pride Month  -_-

I also feel that Clawdeen wouldn't date someone that's spent so much time bullying her friends - personally I'm baffled as to why they didn't pair her with Viperine? They haven't interacted much but they have similar interests (fashion/makeup) and they have a 2-pack (with some pretty cute artwork) together as well...!

Pony Corral / Re: Can rerooted pink hair sunfade?
« on: June 15, 2024, 07:04:47 PM »
My understanding is that red dye is very sensitive to sunlight, whether it is from new suppliers or old suppliers, and any light pink has the potential to fade. I would try to keep her out of the light as you would with a normal pony. :) It might be more resilient, or brighter because it's new, but I don't believe there is any pink hair that is 100% fade-resistant.

Red pigment in general is very sensitive to sunlight - it may have something to do with red having the shortest wavelength of light? All our red/pink pool toys fade in like a week during the summer

My newest set as voted on by you guys, say hello to the Neon Night Ponies!

They feature glowing elements - their bangs (and the braid clip in their mane) as well as their neon sign-inspired symbols all glow in the dark!
This set took a bit longer than usual due to me getting busy with animation work as well as the fact I tried even more to make the set look as authentic as possible, as well as designing a set-specific logo for them!

Finally, these guys were inspired by a multitude of things, but chief among them Disco Magic Sindy, Glitter ‘n Glow Lace and the fact I’ve gotten back into watching City Hunter haha :)

I hope you enjoy them! <3

It looks like Violet, Skylar and Sunny, plus one who may or may not be Bella?

The Winter Wonderland dolls? Yes it's those 4 :)

Pony Corral / Re: Did G5 flop?
« on: March 26, 2024, 03:34:08 AM »
I've personally felt that MLP (strictly the toys themselves, not any attached media) has been on a downward spiral ever since Core 7.
One of the KEY aspects of MLP is the 'collect them all' nature which completely falls apart once you introduce a core group of characters - I think only G2 pulled this off somewhat successfully as it maintained a good blend of old characters with new looks and brand-new ones.
The second aspect is the tactility, which I feel has been lost with the ponies getting increasingly small and less... quality?
The hair doesn't feel nice any more (if it's not outright sculpted) and they're hard plastic. Poses are static and uninspired, gimmicks are obtrusive and get in the way of standard play...
I firmly believe if G4 hadn't had such a successful cartoon attached to it, it would have been dead in the water in a couple of years  -_-

The gold bracelet is basic Lagoona's, the more yellow one is Picture Day Lagoona's.
I can't find whose belt it is, but it's Monster High as well (https://www.ebay.com/itm/285668460928?chn=ps)

BIG dump of leaked pictures for upcoming lines, they are definitely going in a more fantasy direction but I can't say I'm not a fan (as I don;t see any slime included haha)

Rainbow High Sparkle & Shine Moonbows - All four are new characters - Rosetta, Clementine, Marina and Viola. 7 points of articulation and transparent bodies, filled with glitter

OMG I know this thread is old, but it's so cool to see anybody talking about these toys!  I just discovered them, and my partner and I both love them so much but they're so hard to find!

Same here! Also if anyone else is interested in collecting something similar, there is a blind box series called 'Cup Rabbits' who look like the Whiffies' rabbit cousins haha.

The Slumber Party dolls ARE released, I have three of them as two of them I really wasn't feeling. I am curious where the line goes from where!

Unfortunately they are cancelled (Pixel Zoo, the company that animates the show/etc is based here in my home state and I have been able to talk with people there), the Slumber Party dolls were already in production when it was cancelled, hence why they ended up with a small amount of them to sell :(

I am unsure if the Sirenz will also receive a small release as boxed samples exist and they may want to recoup mold costs at the very least.

Ahh thankyou! All I can reveal about this set is they are inspired by both the Fancy Swirl Ponies as well as the outfit 'Pony-Naut' :)

I voted for Dream Marine! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thankyou! Aside from the obvious theme with the name of the set, I can reveal that these guys have a light-up feature
