Allergic to ponies ? :(

in the last two months I have developed some severe asthma and allergy symptoms.   we've be searching like mad to figure out what change has happened in the past few months.

one thing is that I've obtained some g1s (some from overseas) that have pindot and cancer, also some g3s from thrift.

does anypony think there's a "remote" chance that im allergic to nasties inside of older/second
hand ponies?

I haven't "opened" any up, I'm too chicken o even pop the head off a fakie!  but who knows, could mildew leek out!

Anything is possible, that is for sure! I would try to clean one of them with Oxyclean and see if your symptoms get worse while you are cleaning (assuming the symptoms are mild enough to be able to deal with them without medical attention).

Are you allergic to anything else that you know of?

Its always possible - and I would agree its more likely you are allergic to something inside or on the ponies rather than the ponies themselves . They are second hand items - you dont know where they have been or what they have been living with.

But its equally possible you could be allergic to something else in your life, even something you have previously had no problems with.

Personally I would head to the docs and an allergy specialist if they are bad - thats the only way to hopefully get to the cause.

yeah maybe I'll reclean the outside of some of the ponies.  just to make sure.

a warm oxy soak would be a great way to help get rid of the mold. It works on pin dot (although you have to repeat the soak several times. It took me quite a while to get rid of the pin dot on baby Hopscotch!)

Ah so maybe it's the higher mold content in the air that could be doing this to you. Due to the long and large drought certain molds are in full force flying around in the air causing more misery for lots of people. Red mold has been going nuts where I live and this fall has been just awful because of it. Even people who have never suffered from allergies before this year are just miserable. :/

I have ponies separated from the sleeping areas, especially if they have questionable insides.

On a side note: As @ebmerc mentioned as well, I've been talking to friends and family from around the US and to our allergist as well as reading articles about how the crazy weather has people's asthma and allergies into unusual severity. Early onset during the year and not easing up later in the year. Have allergy meds helped you (Zyrtec, Claritin, Allergra, etc) as well as asthma inhalers (both rescue and steroid?)

It's best to decapitate for an oxybath, so the insides are soaked in the solution as well. Just don't make the bath too strong (I don't do more than half a scoop for a large bowl)

It could be an allergy to pindot and internal mildew but I would say the likelihood is pretty low. 

Utah has some craaaaaazy mildew and mold issues in the autumn - lived there for 9 years with severe allergies, so I know all about it! 

Wish I was closer ; I'd happily help you decapitate and clean!

I've tried most of those, though I'm new to use an inhaler, not sure what kind, still figuring it out.

Good idea to keep "questionable" ponies out of sleepin areas.... 
.... But this means I can't sleep with Sunburst anymore!!!!    (just kidding)

Another thing to note about allergies is that more often than not you have to had been around the allergen for sometime before forming an allergy towards it. So in other words it may not be something new to your environment but something that has been around for a while, your body is only now deciding to react.

Perfect example, my aunty works in the hospital sterilising theatre equipment, she's used latex gloves no problem for over 10 years. One day she's getting a check up, next minute she learches back into the chair and goes straight into anaphylatic shock. She now wears a medical braclet, can't wear latex gloves & is terrified of balloons.

Allergies are definately not fun.

It seems like you would have to be around those ponies a lot for them to be the source of the problem, although I guess it's not impossible. But later summer into autumn is also when a lot of fungi outside are growing, so I would guess it's more likely to be something in your environment than the ponies. Plus, if the ponies are dry, wouldn't any mold on/in the be dead by now? If you think mold spores can get out, certainly evaporated water can too.
