Today is off to a great start :pout: I fell again trying not to step on my cat. It was her tail, I felt it under my foot and did some kind of maneuver that had me heading toward the dresser. I bashed right into it almost knocking the TV over. I'm fine though and once again she was unaware of what was going on.

A place I JUST sprayed in the kitchen has ants coming from it again. They are on the counter and in the sink, they found a crumb of cat food. But this means I have to take all my stuff off the counter and clean it to erase the trail scent. It's mostly my coffee and cleaning stuff.

I had some groceries delivered today and the driver was smoking with my things in the car, so the bags reek of cigarette smoke.

I took the last antibiotic this morning. I'm a little worried because I have a lot of mucus in my throat today and my nose is itchy. I hope the sinusitis is gone and this is just leftover, or allergy related.

I hope you feel better, Ponyfan.

--

Well, this day is not a good day. I've been awake since 2am. I couldn't get comfortable in bed at all. I got about 3 hours sleep. I tried taking a nap but only got about 20 minutes rest before my cat got me up for her dinner. Then I called my mom. I call everyday. Yesterday and today she was very short with me but today I asked her if she wanted to talk to me and she said no. She didn't tell me she loved me, just said bye and hung up. This came out of nowhere so I cried because my mom can still make me cry after all this time and I hate that. About 30 minutes later she calls back and says she was sorry that she didn't say I love you and told me that she was upset because I don't want to move back home.

See, my niece found a house to buy and the seller accepted her offer. It's big enough to keep all her stuff, so once she moves out, there's going to be a lot of room at my parent's house. My mom asked if I would move back once my niece moves out. I said no. As usual, my mother took it and twisted it to mean I don't care about or love her at all. So on the phone today she tells me that she wanted to "distance" herself from me so it wouldn't hurt her so much.

Screw my feelings, though, right?

I told her of course that wasn't true and if I didn't care about her I wouldn't call every day. She actually said she realized she was being selfish :wow: A first, I think.

So we patched things over as best a person can with a narcissist. Hopefully, that was the end of it.

When my mom had her stroke, it made her nicer and more grateful for things people do for her. She smiles more and is more easy going. Sometimes though, the old her comes through, like today. The conversation happened last Friday about if I would move back. So she's been sitting on it, thinking about it, twisting it around in her head for three days. I vastly prefer her post-stroke self and wish she never slipped back into what I grew up with.

That sucks, BC. But I'm glad you were able to make some progress at least and fix the situation somewhat.

Feel better, Ponyfan, PKW.

My trivial complaint is when people take something and twist it completely into something completely different. That thing when you say something innocuous, and someone else decides to put their own spin on it, then go after you for it because they're certain they're right.

And when they realise they're not...they don't apologise but are just like, 'well, I'm done with this subject'.

...It's very frustrating.

This was on another website unconnected to ponies. But a whole bunch of people already touched base with me to complain about how the other folk behaved so I guess it's nice to know I'm not the only one annoyed about it.

I also have to teach twice this week. Tomorrow's class is at 9am. It's 11.40 now and I'm not tired. I should go to bed but there's no point if I won't sleep yet. At least an early class means it's over early in the day and I have the afternoon...

i'm also a little frustrated with my parents again. also a little worried. they did make an offer on a house close by and it was accepted. which makes me happy because they're moving closer and i can stop looking at houses. not being able to visit much during covid has been really though and i'm glad we will be able to keep and eye on them and help them with whatever random stuff they need.

but i feel like sometimes they forget that i have a job. now i'm in charge of coordinating installation a repair services until they move here. sometimes my dad doesn't even ask if i can take time away from work.

also my mom has been having eye problems and will probably have surgery. it's really stressful for her and she can't focus on anything else. we visited a few weeks ago and it was like she would completely tune out when i talked to her. this has been an issue for a while but it's getting worse. it's really upsetting and i feel like she's really declined mentally in the last year or so. she forgets a lot more and sometime says stuff that's a little off. i'm hoping it's just the stress of the eye issues and she'll bounce back after having the surgery. she's really not that old to be shutting down like this. it's also worrisome because her brother was just diagnosed with Alzheimers. she's been super emotional and i also hear her choke up whenever we hang up the phone. i can't deal with my mom crying.

she was upset when i moved from Houston but after a few months she seemed ok with it. it's been about 6 years now since we've lived in the same city. i thought it would get easier for her. she's always been bad and handling stress and difficult situations. growing up a lot of times i had to deal with a lot myself because she would kind of check out and my dad was always working. i'm more capable than they give me credit for. my parents have always been really protective and they really tend to imagine the absolute worst scenarios and accidents and run with them. like freak tragic accidents they read about in the news and fixate on. my dad read a story about a teenager passing out in the shower and dying after being cut by the glass door. now they're super worried about me falling in the shower! i feel like she would just lock me inside the house if she could. i really don't even tell my parents when i go anywhere because they worry. when i was younger and would go out with friends i never told them. they think anyone who drives at night on the weekend is an idiot.

i feel like now my parents just aren't wanting to do anything at all. and covid has not helped since it isn't really even safe to do much. but she doesn't even want to do stuff that's safe. like go for a walk. i guess watching your parents age is always going to be difficult. i hope once they move we can get them out of the house more. they're too young to sit in the house.

Thank you, BC and Taffeta.

BC I'm sorry your mom treated you that way and reacted like that.

I was so worked up yesterday that I just sat on the couch and cried for a long time.  Today was a better day.

My headphones that I've used for many years finally bit the dust. I've been having trouble getting them out of the headphone port on my computer but I thought it was because sometimes I accidently twist the plug instead of pulling them out straight. Today I noticed that something looked like it came off when I took them out of the computer and when I checked the pair my mom has I noticed that one of the little black rings on the headphones is missing.  I'm hoping that I didn't hurt the headphone port on my computer by putting them in.  I use them a lot when I'm streaming anime and one or both of my parents are also in the home office so they don't have to listen to something they're not interested in.

I have to see a specialist this week and I'm nervous.

I've spent the last week shelf reading and shifting because the shelver keeps claiming there's no room to shelve and the other library staff is having a hard time finding things.  While in the process of shelf reading I spoke to the Assistant Director about the disorder on the shelves and he tried to justify it by saying that a lot of people have been helping so it wasn't all the shelver's fault.

YESTERDAY the shelver put books in an area I finished on Wednesday and they are already out of order and shoved so tightly on the shelf that they are bowed in.  There is plenty of room to shift above and below that shelf so there is no reason for it to be that tight. It took less than a week for her to screw it up.  And she doesn't work Friday, Saturday or Sunday so it literally took her two days.

The librarian in charge of that collection is speaking to the director about it today because we're all sick of the garbage job that's being done and the refusal to dole out consequences for it.  I'm done with shifting this week because I don't want to start another section as I'm taking next week off.  So once I get back from my break I'll see how terrible it is but I refuse to fix it again.

So a lowkey list of complaints, some more amusing than others.

We're not sure exactly how/why right now, but in the delivery this morning we had 2 packs of baby peppers and one apple. My parents swear they ordered a pack of apples and loose peppers. Investigations are ongoing ;)

The university are on strike again. I have been working there for about 2 months and yeah, here we go again! So I have to deal with the strike office again. You know, that department where they can't be bothered to spell someone's name right when it's right in front of them, don't bother to respond for ages and try to make me fill in a form that I can't fill in for various reasons, the most pressing of which is that my login doesn't actually work for the main staff interface. And they say they will reply within 2 days. Four days later, no email.

My pay might be deducted because of this so I have to resolve it, even though it's unreasonable. And the strike this time does actually cover my work hours, so it's a bit more logical I need to complete it. But I'm on a time limit, as my post is temporary and my staff email is due to expire at the end of March. So they need to get this resolved.

My father visited my brother on Monday, but no one could tell me about his visit.  :what: My brother lives next door. My dad lives quite far away from us, so he doesn’t come here often, especially in the winter. It would have been nice to see him face to face …

---

In the morning I had a horrible dizziness and also in the evening.  :dizzy: I don’t know the reason for that, but hopefully it won’t happen again.

With all the snow melting, there’s a lot more spring runoff. Which is fine, just means the city has to put more chlorine into the water to compensate for the added volume.
The drinking water now tastes and smells like I’m drinking from a swimming pool.
This. Sentence. Is. False! Dontthinkaboutitdontthinkaboutit.

Bought some cute IKEA Drona boxes for my kid's bedroom - but the cardboard that has been used to make them have that strange "smell"... it's been a few weeks & I can still smell them when I am up close... at least they are near a window so that the fresh air can circulate around them...
