I just saw this Funko announcement!

All I gotta say is I'm happy the rarity of each figure is the same 1/12. I know some of the other mystery minis are really rare.
I especially want the glow in the dark ones! The other figures look like the vinyl figure box art!

I love the concept, but I don't care for the eyes on most of them. I'm not sure if it's the shape or the placement. I'd actually love to see them without the eyes, just the solid black + colored mane, tail, and cutie mark, but I imagine most people would find that too eerie.

Wow those are really cute...though, I wonder why Muffins/Bubbles gets 2 figures and poor AJ, Rarity and Twilight don't get one at all?  Admittedly Twilight has a lot of merchandise already but AJ and Rarity aren't so oversaturated.

I really don't care much for variants in special colors and plastics. I'll wait for the normal releases.

I like them but not enough to want to torture myself with trying to collect them all, I'll just stick with the regular Funkos unless these are available in Australia.
The black is cool but still kinda weird, especially since Spitfire just has a black costume instead of a black body, which looks really odd next to all of the other solid black ones.
Kinda sad too that the fan favourites get figures before all of the mane 6. Not bad to get other ponies instead of just the mane 6 over and over... but they're kind of doing the same thing only with favourites.

These figures seem to be miniature versions of the vinyl figures already released/announced. Rainbow Dash and Muffins for wave one, Fluttershy and Dr Whooves for wave two, Pinkie Pie and Lyra for wave three, Spitfire and Sweetie Drops for wave four (just released), and DJ Pon-3 and Octavia must be the next wave (only prototypes of them have been seen thus far).

Funko reps have stated that they plan to release the whole mane six eventually, so in the future when there are more vinyl figure waves released, perhaps there will be another accompanying line of minis for them. Don't give up hope on mini-AJ, she might make an appearance eventually!

This could explain all the blind bag sized Dr. Whooves and Vinyl Scratches popping up on ebay--unless Hasbro is doing a similar release.

Very very interesting, as excited as I am, I also fear that these might become better selling than the actual funkos and they will start to only make these more and not the larger figures... Maybe I'm just paranoid, but look what happened to the brushables after blind bags came out...

These are all the same characters that already are out for funko (besides Octavia and Vinyl who are coming out next month) Don't worry Aj, Twilight, and Rarity will be funkos, they have already confirmed that, I'm guessing if these do well they will also be in smaller versions too in the next wave.
