Customs / Looking for someone to rehair my girls!
« on: August 31, 2016, 05:07:22 PM »
Hi there!

I have three ponies I'd love to have rehaired - they all came to me with most unfortunate haircuts. :(  Just curious if anyone is offering rehairing services at the moment...  Please pm me if you do (or know someone who does)!  Thank you! ^.^

Pony Corral / Quick question re: g2 eye crystals
« on: August 27, 2016, 06:48:54 PM »
Hey there!

I seem to recall pp18 being the correct size of Swarovski crystals to replace missing g2 eye crystals... does anyone know the right size for the babies, though?  I got a Rumba and Samba who'd love to get their sparkles back. ^.^

Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / Mixed up pony brag
« on: August 23, 2016, 05:32:51 PM »
So I won an auction on eBay for (according to the listing) Mommy Apple Delight, DnP Swinger, Slugger, Sugarberry, Sherbet, and a mystery couple others.  At ten bucks, I wasn't overly picky.  But imagine my surprise when I opened the parcel and found...

Check out Sweet Pocket!

I messaged the seller about the substitutions, and once I got the 'all clear' from them to keep this bunch, I joyfully set about spa treatments!  Here are the results. ^.^

(Sharp-eyed viewers may notice one pony didn't make it to after-spa.  BBE Lickety Split has nasty eye rust and a bit of musty funk.  She's beyond my meagre skills - but if anyone would like her, please pm me!  She's yours for the asking... and maybe postage?)

Baby sister Apple Delight looks a bit cream coloured, but she sure cleaned up well!  (She smells a bit musty, and is the only other one in the lot that didn't smell pony-y, but she's clean as a whistle inside... maybe just another wash and some airing out?)
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sugarberry looks so pretty!  A bit of frizz at the tip of the tail and some pindot/inground dirt on her hooves and ears, but otherwise lovely. ^.^

Twinkler was a surprise in the lot!  She's very cute, and her tinsel isn't overly crazy, either.

I'm in love!  Look at this beauty!  This isn't a set I've actively been collecting, but based on Sherbet here, I may have to change that...!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Slugger!!!  He's in such lovely shape, still plenty pliable, too.  I think I'm only missing Quarterback now, and I'll have all the North American Big Brothers...

And finally, my unexpected pink-haired diva herself, Sweet Pocket!  I can't believe how awesome she looks...!  The camera just doesn't do that fading-pink justice.  So pretty!  And bee pony!!!

Thanks for sharing in my happiness!  (And especial thanks to all the helpful pony peeps on TCB who helped me navigate a peculiar situation with grace.)

Hey, pony peeps!

So I won an auction for seven G1 ponies.  It was a smidge dodgy looking - the seller listed five by name, mentioned another with ice cream cones, and only provided photos for two.  It was only ten bucks, though, so w/e.

I got the ponies today, and here's my conundrum.  The two ponies pictured aren't in the lot.  I did get seven G1s (three were indeed in the list, plus the ice cream pony, BBE Lickety Split), one of the replacements is Twinkler, one's a baby sister Apple Delight, and one is a brilliant Sweet Pocket (complete with charm, string, and super pink hair!).  I'm not displeased by this, like at all - considering there's also a Slugger in amazing (if grubby, but that's totally cleanable) shape in there, I got one heck of a sweet deal - but I'm curious as to the why of it all.

Should I begin my spa treatments for these lovelies?  Or can the seller turn round and say they sent me the wrong ponies and request I return them?  I honestly have never had this question arise before, and would appreciate any insight.  Thanks! ^.^

Pony Brag Arena / Mini brag... literally!
« on: August 18, 2016, 07:00:35 PM »
Just felt like sharing my Dolly Mix ponies with y'all!  (Including my newest acquisitions, courtesy of the lovely TwistedWindSox!)  Please forgive my phone's photo quality - sometimes it plays nicer than others, but this wasn't one of those times...

Hey!  I've not done this a lot before, but I'll try my best. ^.^

All prices listed are in USD, and I accept PayPal; I'm also open to trades (my want list is here: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html.  I'll be shipping from Canada.  I've no real idea what postage costs look like these days, so rather than guesstimate, once a sale has been requested, I'll take the parcel to the post counter and get exact quotes - it's like, two blocks from here and open 7 days.  This is a non-smoking household; no pets for over eight years.  I'm not a picky collector, and I've done my best to describe these ponies.  Unless otherwise noted, all hair plugs are present.  Ive no real good eye for haircuts (unless they're glaringly obvious).  I may have missed the occasional small mark.  I'll be happy to provide more photos on request!

I'll sell to North America, Europe (except Italy), Asia, and Australia.

On to the ponies!

Sugarberry
(Hold)

She's in fair to good shape.  Her symbols are in reasonably nice shape; her ds eye has a bit of a scuff; her ds blush is almost completely fades, and her nds blush has a bit of a rub.  Her hooves and ears have a bit of pindot; nothing some good scrubbing/scraping couldn't get rid of, I believe.   Her mane and tail are a touch frizzed at the ends, and she's missing one hair plug towards the centre of her mane.  (Had to reaaally look to find it.)  Otherwise, she's lovely!  Very white, she retains her washer and tail clamp - she came to me with no tail rust, so I'll leave any changes up to her new owner.  Maybe not for a picky collector, but a lovely addition to a less picky collector's herd nonetheless. ^.^ $4.

Twinkler (non-mo) (hold)
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Pretty pony!  Apart from a teensy rub on one firework on her ds side, I can't see any body flaws.  Her tail tinsel is a bit wild toward the tip.  Otherwise, lovely!  Her neck seal is intact, just so's y'all know she hasn't been cleaned or anything inside.  $6.

G1 Accessories

Baby rockers in pale pink, darker pink, or lavender $2 each
Bassinet in blue with yellow canopy $4
Pink change table (slight gouge to front centre) $3
Wagons in blue with yellow wheels or lavender with blue wheels $3 each

Those darned pink marks!  Or purple.  Idk what got her, but something got her good.  She came to me with tail rust and such; her insides were cleaned with mild soap and water, and her washer and clamp have been replaced with zip ties.  Her tail still turns colour in the sun; her mane too, but less so.  Her ds blush has a rub.  $2. $1.50

She's in pretty nice shape, if I do say so myself.  She's more creamy than white, but still gorgeous.  Blushes and eyes are really nice (there's the tiniest of flaws to her eyeliner on her ds, but it's pretty minimal), and her symbols are beautiful.  There's a tiny darkish mark on her nds hind hoof (visible in photo); I don't think it's pony cancer, but I'm no expert.  She had tail rust and was pretty grotty inside; she's been cleaned with mild soap and water, and her washer and clamp were replaced with zip ties.  All in all, lovely! $8. $6

Not too bad!  Her TAF symbols have minor marks here and there; her ds eye also has a serious rub, but it looks very repairable.  Her mane is quite faded, but her tail is rather pink.  She had tail rust, and so was cleaned inside with mild soap and water, and had her clamp and washer replaced with zip ties.  If I didn't already have another (with pinkier hair), I'd keep her myself!  $4. $3

Reasonable shape.  Her symbols have a bit of wear, as do her eyes.  It looks as though a previous owner may have tried to paint over the black in her ds eye?  Her nds eye still has a rub, though.  Her tinsel is a little crinkly, but not too bad.  She had very bad tail rust; her insides were cleaned with mild soap and water, and her washer and clamp were replaced with zip ties.  Her hind ds leg leans in a lot, but she stands well enough.  $3. $2

Creamy!  Her symbols are very worn; a more dab hand than I could perhaps restore them to their glittery glory.  Her eyes are lovely, as are her blushes.  Her horn looks discoloured at the tip.  She had tail rust; her insides have been washed with mild soap and water, and her washer and clamp were replaced with zip ties.  Otherwise very pretty!  $3. $2

Pretty nice!  Her ds symbol is lovely; her nds symbol has a rub.  She has both her eye crystals.  Her ds ear looks a trifle discoloured at the tip?  There's a bit of dirt under her hooves still.  She's missing the bottom plug on her ds.  Otherwise, very pretty.  $5. $4

She's very pretty!  Eyes and symbol are great (her ds eye has a speck of glitter in the corner), and her hoof heart has a bit of wear on its right side.  She seemed to have factory curl?  So I left her hair curly when she was washed.  There's still a bit of dirt under her hooves (wasn't a very thorough cleaning I guess?).  Otherwise in fine shape. $3. $2

Off Topic / Anyone in Japan?
« on: August 14, 2016, 06:47:28 AM »
Or know anyone in Japan?

Here's why I'm asking.  My son is absolutely gaga for this game, The Battle Cats.  (If you haven't heard of it, http://bc01.ponos.net/web/en/battlecats.html.)  It's a great tower defence game, and he not only has loads of fun playing it, he even helps mod their wiki.  He'd love to get some of the merchandise, but outside of a couple books and some extremely expensive small plushies on eBay (and a tissue box cover), I can't find much in the way of Battle Cats swag.  (Also, eBay keeps suggesting He-Man's Battle Cat, so boo!)  I know they've released erasers, phone straps, 8-colour pens, pencils, figurines, gashapon, plushies of all sorts, pencil cases, etc., etc., so it's not like it isn't out there...

If anyone is in Japan and can help me get a bit of stuff, or knows someone who can, please lmk!  Thanks!

Pony Corral / Those darned bright pink marks!
« on: August 13, 2016, 06:24:32 PM »
I've been out of the loop for a bit, and I was wondering... did anyone ever get to the bottom of what causes those random lurid pink stains on ponies?

I mean, children worldwide can't have attacked their ponies en masse with highlighter pens... were Barbie accessories (about the only fairly common neon pink toy things I can think of) to blame?  Like, they got schmucked up against porous vinyl ponies in toyboxes and bam!  Insta-pink!  I'm just curious, as I've got a Sweet Stuff whose foreleg is just splattered with bright pink (and I swear sunfading made it worse), and i started ruminating and, well, here we are. :P

Any thoughts/theories/etc. welcome!  (Also, if anyone has ideas for that Sweet Stuff, I'd love to hear 'em!)

Pony Brag Arena / Pic heavy - my new G3s arrived!
« on: July 24, 2016, 11:18:31 AM »
This was my first pony mail in I forget how long, so I went a bit overboard and made it into a little photoplay.

So I bought a selection of G3s from the very kind Lady Starflower, and I thought I'd document them arriving. ^.^
Here are the ladies, freshly out of their travelling compartment:

But where was the welcoming committee?  The intrepid six decided to have a look about.
Crystal Lace was promptly distracted by All. The.  Books.

Luau spotted some G2s a few shelves higher and decided to ask for directions.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Gem Blossom wandered into a herd of Lalaloopsy ponies but was a trifle discomfited by their button eyes; she made a few new friends anyway.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Peachy Keen was very impressed by the Schleich pegasus' wings!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Butter Pop thought some of these teensy Dolly Mix ponies looked awfully familiar - and they were very chatty, too!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Rhapsody Ribbons encountered a helpful herd of mer-ponies, who were only too happy to help her find her way...
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And finally, the wandering ponies were welcomed into the herd (though Crystal Lace kept casting longing glances toward that bookshelf...).

*Bonus*

There was also a stowaway in the G3s' travelling compartment... Cutie Mark Magic Flower Wishes!  She had a similar adventure, meeting up with a band of Blind Bag ponies...

... before finally being reunited with her G4 sisters!

Thanks again for the ponies, Lady Starflower!  They're a lovely addition to my ever-growing collection.  And taking photos of their 'arrival adventure' was loads of fun, too! ^.^

Hi, [you]!

I spoilered the TL;DR part - just the fine print/details on what I'm looking for and condition and stuff.  I blather, sorry.  Skip to the want list if you like. ;)

Spoiler
So I finally sat down and worked out what ponies I'm most looking for.  Again.  I'm still reorganizing my sales and trade threads, so I'm mostly on a buyer's basis at the moment. ^.^

Can't buy it *all* right the now, but feel free to pm me, and we'll talk. ^.^

My eBay feedback as a buyer (under the handle sugar.lightning) is at 188 and my Arena feedback stands at +76 (no negative feedback). ^.^  I'm in Canada, and I'm happy to purchase internationally - hey, it's frequently less expensive for shipping than North American post fees.  Go figure.

I'm not a terribly picky collector.  Except for So-Softs - flocking loss is beginning to really creep me out.  Must have really fluffy So Softs - or darned close to it.  I do like my ponies to look nice, but after twenty-odd years and heavens only know how much playwear, I can fully understand some, um, baggage?  Hey, I have my share too.  Anyway, about the only things that make me say an outright no to a pony are holes, missing limbs, looking like it's been used for a teether, oozing with rust/mould, or out-and-out burns.  I can overlook mild marker, mild biro/highlighter marks, names/marks under the hooves, regrind, mild cancer spots, mild chews, etc., and I can fix or live with a lot of other problems. ^.^  Thank you, Arena, for sharing all your knowledge about pony restoration! :grouphug:

Thanks for having a nosey!

Off Topic / Looking for book recommendations, please!
« on: July 09, 2016, 08:33:54 PM »
Hey there!

I'm heading book shopping on Tuesday, and I'm looking for books to read!  I get a bit overwhelmed when I visit my local Indigo Books - they keep reorganising, and I get all disoriented and never know what to buy.  I really love high fantasy, YA or otherwise, and anything with a strong dystopian flavour to it.  Can anyone drop a few recommendations?  Recent books I've read and absolutely adored include:

Dies the Fire (and the eleven books after it in the Emberverse series), by SM Stirling (strong contender for favourite books of all time, no joke)

Vampire Academy (and its sequels) and Bloodlines (and its sequels), by Richelle Mead (and I just bought her The Glittering Court with high hopes)

Partials (and the rest of that sequence), by Dan Wells

The Sweep series, by Cate Tiernan

The Iron Fae books, by Julie Kagawa (didn't enjoy her Immortals books quite as much, oh well)

The Kingkiller Chronicles, by Patrick Rothfuss

and Throne of Glass (and the others so far in that series), by Sarah J. Maas.

That's just this past little while; I'm looking over my bookshelves and I also see the House of Night series, all the Cassandra Clare books (except Lady Midnight), Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, Hunger Games books, and a passel of nonfiction I won't even get into.  Just to give y'all an idea of which way my reading compass leans.  So yeah, please feel free to let me know what this voracious reader should sink her teeth into next! ^.^  Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / First spa day in a while!
« on: July 07, 2016, 06:54:35 PM »
Hey, pony friends!  Up till this past little while, I hadn't been on the Arena for, um, maybe a year or two?  But today, I pulled some of my fixer-uppers out of their bin, and went on a spa binge!  It felt so good!

Here are some of the herd post-spa...

And the rest!  (You should've seen the rust-mould combo in Painting-Time... yikes!)  I think I spruced up well over a dozen today... that's a lot after a super long drought. ^.^

The queue for future spa days... hey, settle down, y'all!

Just felt like sharing the first bona fide ponywork I've done in quite some time.  It's good to be back! :lovey:

Introductions / Back to the herd!
« on: July 01, 2016, 08:15:18 PM »
Hey, wonderful pony people!

A few of y'all might remember me from a couple years ago... I'd drifted away from the collecting scene for a bit, but that was then, and now, I'm delighted to be back!  (I'm equally delighted I remembered my password after only two tries, woohoo! :P)

I don't really have a whole bunch more to say, just that I missed y'all, and I'm glad to be back.  ^.^  Looking forward to seeing friends old and new!

Off Topic / Wii Fit U - anyone else doing this?
« on: January 13, 2014, 11:16:14 AM »
So... the weather out here's been rather not conducive to outdoor activity (rain, freezing rain, ice, and more rain), and my son needs to shed some weight prior to his operation... so I went and plunked down for the Wii Fit U.  We now each have a Fit Meter (just like a Pokéwalker, but fitness-y) and the balance board/scale thingie, and have been doing pretty well close to 30 minutes a day each - though to be fair, it's only been in the house for two days. :sheepish:

What I wanted to know is, has anyone else invested in this, and how are you finding it?  Has anyone found anything cool about it they'd like to share?  For instance, with the Fit Meter (I could wear mine at work, but my son can't wear his to school, alas), I racked up enough steps up and down stairs at work to climb past the observation tower on the Statue of Liberty. :P

Pony Corral / Did I miss a memo again...?
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:06:19 AM »
:brow:  I just saw Posey Rose at 295$ US over on eBay, not like MoC or anything, just a regular, run-of-the-mill used pony.  I know I can't post the link, but if you search LOT #3 UNIQUE PONY LONG FLEXABLE LEGS, you'll find her.  She's OBO, so I'm vaguely tempted to offer five bucks... :P

Anyone else see any over-the-top auctions lately?
