Pony Brag Arena / Lucky!
« on: October 09, 2019, 05:47:07 PM »
I remember wanting to get this guy when he was offered as a mail order in 1986, although I never did.  Now I have him, thanks to an Arena member!  He lost his bow tie somewhere, so I made him a new one.   :accomplished:

Arts & Crafts Corral / More fun with pony fabric!
« on: September 15, 2019, 06:25:25 PM »
My children's cousin gave them a doll stroller a few weeks ago.  It was pretty much unusable as it was, because the fabric seat was coming apart.  I replaced it today, using some more G3 pony fabric from my sister.  I think it turned out well.

Pony Brag Arena / Just got one of my most-wanted ponies!
« on: September 12, 2019, 01:54:02 PM »
And she wasn't alone, either!

A few weeks ago, an Arena member noticed that I wanted Baby Hopscotch and sent me a private message that she had one to sell, as well as the pony's bottle.  She also offered a few other Euro-released babies, if I was interested.  I didn't have the budget for all of them, but I did choose another baby (and a comb).  They had quite a trek from Berlin to the Pacific Northwest (possibly with some sight-seeing in New York), but they arrived today.  (The letter carrier thought it was silly that I needed to sign for a "little pony toy.")

So here are Baby Hopscotch (with her bottle) and Baby Count-a-Lot (with Baby Alphabet's comb):

A few years ago, I got a lot of ponies that included Hopscotch.  She just might be my favorite pony; I think she's so beautiful.  And now I have her baby, too!!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Pony Skirt!
« on: September 06, 2019, 07:54:22 PM »
I didn't know whether to post this in the Pony Corral, the Arts and Crafts Corral, or even the Pony Brag Arena, so I guess the mods can move this if necessary.   ^.^

My sister was cleaning out some fabric and asked if I wanted it.  Even though it's G3 and I collect G1, I said that I did.  I've been working on this project for a few weeks (not a whole lot of free time with four children), and I'm excited to have finished it.  I'll have to get some better photos later.  :good:

The ribbon reminds me of the G1 ribbons.  The buttons and eyelet lace came from another skirt.  My sister got the fabric at WalMart when G3 was current (her daughters collected G3), and she gave me some other prints, too.  I have lots of pony fabric to play with!!   :frolic:

The Dollhouse / Anyone here do doll re-hairs?
« on: August 26, 2019, 05:54:06 PM »
My toddler has a Melissa and Doug Natalie doll that she loves.  The hair is pretty low-quality, though, and has gotten quite ratty.  I've conditioned and combed it a couple times, but nothing seems to improve it much.  I'm toying with the idea of having it re-haired with some better hair and am looking at possibilities/options.  How long would it take?  How much would it cost?  Anything else I should take into consideration?  Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / New Pretty Parlor
« on: August 24, 2019, 10:50:43 AM »
This isn't a huge brag, although this is the first pony I've acquired in a couple years.  I just discovered this week that G1s are being re-released, so yeah, I've been really out of the loop.  (Difficult pregnancy, moving to a new house, NICU stay, depression...)  Anyway, I told my husband about the new G1s and showed him the Pretty Parlor on Amazon--and he ordered it for me as a surprise!  (He's also encouraging me to buy more ponies.)  It came yesterday.

I know the new Pretty Parlor is old news in the collector community, but it's exciting for me.  And it was sweet of my husband to get it for me.  (What's with the alternate Twinkles mold, though?)

And Peachy seems to have a printing error.  Is this usual for all the new ones?

Anyway, I guess this is a husband brag more than anything, but it's nice to be back to collecting.   :)

Edit:  OK, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the pictures.  I'll have to figure that out...
Edit 2:  Couldn't figure out the pictures, so I just put in links.
Edit 3:  Figured out the picture thing!!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Got my childhood Breyers back!!
« on: July 13, 2017, 01:04:41 PM »
My mom visited us a couple weeks ago, and she brought my (small) Breyer herd with her.  I finally pulled them out of the box today and got them arranged on my shelf.  So happy to have them back!!  (The small buckskin and paint in the front are thrift store finds within the past year or two; the others are from way back when.)

I have a question about the Arabian foal on the end, though.  Does anyone know how to clean up/re-whiten a vintage Breyer like that?  I don't want to damage the paint, of course.  There are some areas that are more brownish than others.

(Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to make pictures post from Instagram, and Photobucket is displeased with my trying to display pictures here.)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Are Breyer boxes worth anything?
« on: May 06, 2017, 12:10:01 PM »
I have a few boxes from the Breyer horses I got when I was younger (20+ years ago).  Are they worth hanging on to for any reason (other than sentiment)?  Does anyone collect the boxes or anything like that?

Pony Corral / Mail Order Flier -- with Rapunzel and Pearly Babies!!
« on: January 26, 2017, 11:12:46 AM »
My mom sent me a bunch of stuff late last year (including the last of my childhood ponies, still awaiting a clean-up), and this flier was in the box.  The actual order form is gone, because I used it to get pearlized Baby Glory when I was little.  :)  Thought you all might like to see it.  :good:

Off Topic / Money-making ideas?
« on: September 28, 2016, 10:16:09 AM »
My husband lost his job on Labor Day weekend.  It was the sole source of income for our family.  So far, he has been unable to get into another position, and I'm trying to come up with ways of generating money from home while I look after the little ones.  (We have three small children.)  I know MLM stuff (essential oils, Jamberry nails, Mary Kay, etc.) is popular with a lot of people, but I am not the kind of person to do well with that.  (I have no friends, for one thing.)  I'm thinking more along the lines of making (sewing, crocheting, possibly knitting) stuff to sell.

So what sort of handmade thing would YOU buy?  Any thoughts?

I've had an exciting few days!!

First, I stopped by Tak's house on Sunday to get this little cutie:

I've had Sandcastle since elementary school (given to me by a classmate), and now I have shovels to complete the set!!

Happy family!!  (In my childhood herd, Powder was/is a boy, and he and Coco Berry were/are Sandcastle's parents.)

Then, on Monday, I got two packages in the mail.  One was Sprinkles, for whom I traded one of my G3s.

The other had a couple ponies that had belonged to my niece.  My sister gave me first choice when my niece decided to pass some of her ponies on to her cousins.  Obviously, they need some cleaning.

And today, I went to Goodwill.  As usual, I took my children to the toy aisle to play for a couple minutes (and to check for ponies, of course).  I glanced over the shelf that had the horsey things (fakies, models, etc.) and felt the usual disappointment of not spotting any ponies.  Then, as my children played, I looked again and realized that one of them was probably a Dream Beauty!!  (I don't normally think of Dream Beauties and don't know a whole lot about them.)  I grabbed my phone and pulled up My Little Wiki.  I discovered that I had Skyflyer in my hands.

She's missing some hair from her mane, and I haven't attempted to clean her yet, but I still think she's a pretty exciting find!!

Pony Brag Arena / New Twinkle Eye
« on: August 15, 2016, 11:16:47 PM »
I discovered Sweet Pop a few weeks ago, as in, I didn't even know she existed until I spotted her on eBay.  I loved her colors and decided that I wanted to add her to my herd.  I don't usually buy single ponies, however, so I didn't get her right then, even though she wasn't very expensive.  I added her to my wishlist and moved on.

Last week, eBay informed me that her price had dropped.  Admittedly, it was only a small amount, since her price wasn't very high to begin with, but it brought her to my attention again.  I had just sold another (inexpensive) pony and decided to use the PayPal balance from that to buy Sweet Pop.  She got here faster than I expected, so I had her in my hands this morning.  :frolic:

Since she was a bit dirty, I thought a quick scrub would be nice.  Then I spied a tiny bit of tail rust, which led to opening her up and discovering some rather dirty insides.  Once I manged to get all of that stuff cleaned out, I figured I might as well do something about the frizz in her hair.  Thus, my new pony ended up with a full spa.   :relaxed:

Now I have four Twinkle Eyes.  I've never been into this set.  I had only one in my childhood collection (Mimic); the other three, I've acquired since I started collecting again last year.  Sweet Pop and Fizzy are my favorites.  :good:

Pony Corral / Precious Gem's hair... (Updated 8/29: Detangled!!)
« on: August 15, 2016, 07:05:30 PM »
Did Hasbro not realize that this pony's hair would inevitably become a huge mess??  :stressed:

Should I try to preserve any of the (hopelessly tangled and matted) curl?  Or just pick it out and use a straightener on the frizz?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I don't even collect G3s...

However, I do have very curly hair, so I can sort of sympathize with her predicament.   :drunk:

UPDATE 8/18:

I've managed to pick out most of the tail mess.  However, even using loads of conditioner, it seems to get frizzier as I keep working on it.  At first, I thought I might be able to actually restore the curl, but it doesn't look like it now.

And her tail is quite a bit longer than I had realized...

UPDATE 8/22:

I think I've done about all I can as far as de-frizzing her tail goes.  There is still some at the end, but it's not getting any better if I keep working on it.  At least, I can actually comb it now.

I also got the pink section of her mane picked out, and it still has some curl.  However, she lost quite a bit of hair in the process.  Even with careful combing, chunks of it pulled out.  Sigh...

Update 8/29:

I'm declaring her to be finished.  I'll just post her on my trade list like this.

Pony Brag Arena / Pony Trade
« on: August 10, 2016, 02:28:08 PM »
Yesterday was my wedding anniversary.  My husband surprised me by taking the day off work and planning an afternoon for just the two of us (first time ever to go out without the children).  So we left the little ones with my sister-in-law (who helped him plan it) and took off for lunch, wandering around gardens, watching glass-blowing, a massage (for me), and dinner.

Before all this, though, we stopped by Tak's house so I could trade some ponies with her.  :good:

Here are my newest herd members:

Their arrival was not unnoticed, and the other ponies hurried to get to know them.  Scoops and Boysenberry Pie were eager to trade recipes with Banana Surprise and Lickity Split.

Twinkler got acquainted with other sparkly girls.

A couple of the guys welcomed the new fellow.

And Lickity Split was reunited with her babies.
