New in box vs Mint in box?

I've been wondering about the difference between the terms "new in box/package" and "mint in box/package"?  Is there a difference in meaning?  Does it relate to condition of the box, or of the pony sealed inside? 

Also, let's say you had a pony that was in a sealed package and clearly undamaged, but you could see that it had a factory flaw.  Would this still be considered "mint"?  Since it came from the "mint" that way, I would suppose so, but then it is clearly flawed, so..? 

The first question relates to ponies I actually have, the second is hypothetical but I'm sure it has happened to someone at some point.  Thanks for any info!

I'd say NIB/MIB are the same/interchangable terms.

Factory flaws, hm, that's tricky. I guess it'd depend on what exactly the flaw was since those can be subjective. I'd probably just list them as something like "MIP but has some factory flaws".

I use them sort of interchangibly but if we're slicing and dicing, MIB would be a package and pony that is pretty nice/not damaged, NIB could be for a pony in a package that has a corner crushed, for example. I hear MIB more, though, so if you're using it as an eBay title, go for that one.

By that same logic, she would be NIB, but for the sake of grabbing eyes, I would simply describe as "MIB, factory flaws".

I think NIB and MIB are more or less the same, but MIB =/= NRFB. You can have a pony that's mint in box with a broken seal, but if the seal is broken you can't guarantee it's never been removed.

Interesting, I would have thought a broken seal on the box would make it not MIB any more.  I'll have to keep in mind to ask about the seal next time I buy something something "MIB"

I think it's a grey area, but yeah, technically an item can be in mint condition and in its box, but without a seal on the box flap. Which means it might have been taken out.

I have a couple of ponies where I know they were removed previously - and I knew this before I bought them - so they are MIB to me. Others still have their seals intact, so they are NRFB.

Probably best to ask about seals if it's something that bothers you, especially since pony box seals are prone to peeling or wearing loose with age and drying conditions anyway.

plenty of people save the packaging in case they want to sell later.  but Never Been Opened is obviously much different than "was only on display"
