hi. so my friend from work knows i customize ponies and done a few dolls too. (mostly monster high)
and she asked if could/would make a doll of the last unicorn in human form.

i think it will be a fun project, but i'm trying to figure out which doll to use as a base.
i don't think she'll want to invest in the ball-joint route, so probably something commerical.
any advice? was thinking maybe even the disney store dolls. but i'd have to figure out which would be best since they have different face molds.

any help would be great. i'm getting a copy of the movie to watch so i have a better idea about the character... and so can figure out how to make her clothes too. eep.

been looking at a lot of different options. thinking the juku couture might work out the best.
if anyone has one that is on the paler side or other ones you'd like to sell etc. pm me.

Why don't you use a Monster High doll? Does she not like them?

I wouldn't recommend a Disney store doll, you'll either get one with jointed legs who sits horribly (which would be okay if its just going to be in a stand and not sit down) or one with yucky rubber legs. I'd suggest a Liv doll, they have great bodies and can use acrylic/glass eyes by default.

mh is my first choice, but the skin tones don't really match the character.
and i love modifying liv dolls. (many of my girls... have become boys. oops XP )
but i think they are a little too thick. she's kinda a wafish character.

If you're going Disney store routs, I would say Ariel. She has the larger eyes and the right face shape.

Why don't you use an obitsu body? It's slim and pretty posable.  ^.^

If you are looking for something in a pale human skin tone then the Ever After High dolls that will be out soon could work. Or you can look into the Disney VIP dolls that are on the shelves right now.

I've thought about this myself.  I think Jazzie's face mold might be pretty (Jazzie is Barbie doll's cousin).

Jukus aren't a bad choice I guess, their faces have more or less the right shape (...nice nose!) but I would worry about skin color - Amalthea is wayyyyy pale, and those gals have either a tan or a healthy pink shade. That might not look so good with silver-white hair! (plus bodies might look just a tad short for a woman)

I think a good idea would be to get some screenshots from the movie (front, profile and 3/4) print that out on a piece of paper and go to a toy store with it (online images can be misleading). Maybe there's a Disney princess out there with a perfect face for the job, and well-painted eyes would be as movie-acurate as you can get.

...though if you think your friend might be ready to pay for a bit more than play dolls, I agree with Rabiruchi that an obitsu body could be great - ''white skin'' would be a great match for Amalthea I think, and the Haruka nano head has a relatively similar face shape:

oh great idea!
i just got a copy of the movie from a friend and hope to watch it tomorrow.
i'm def going to repaint the face, unless i go with something with the changeable eyes.
i'm gonna be meeting with her on sunday, and well. bringing all the dolls i have to "sample" some of the options out there.
