Pony Corral / accessories: Flutter Pony ribbons (2nd group)
« on: March 17, 2021, 06:16:29 PM »
Hi, everyone!

I'm busy with life and work and trying to build a house. So I haven't been around as much, but I'm still collecting!

Over the years, there has been debate over the ribbons that came with the 2nd group of Flutter Ponies, and whether the US and UK releases came with different ribbons (possibly metallic in the US and gold-edged in the UK). Do we know any more about this now? I definitely may have missed an earlier discussion.

Recently some Ebay auctions for complete deboxed ponies ended, so that might help solve the mystery. I noticed that the ribbons for the 2nd set Flutters seemed to correspond to Summer Wing ribbons, though for some it could be difficult to tell exactly which one because of the glare. But if the ribbons of the 2 groups do correspond, it explains why no new unique ribbons have been found.

Here's what I've got so far; can anyone help me narrow it down?

Cloud Puff - either purple (High Flyer) or pink (Lady Flutter)

Tropical Breeze - either blue (Buzzer) or aqua blue (Glow)

Wingsong - magenta (Sky Flyer)

Wind Drifter - yellow (Little Flitter; note that the yellow metallic ribbon is a bit different from the gold metallic ribbons that came with several Flutter Ponies from the first set)

And do we have any idea which ribbons they came with in the UK?

Accessory experts, need your help!!

MLP Nirvana / 4-Speed's regular hat vs. Spanish yellow one
« on: September 19, 2020, 04:28:38 PM »
Hi everyone! I haven't been around as much lately and haven't posted in a while, but I'm still collecting. Just busy with work and life, and online ponyhunting is time-consuming as it is, leaving little time for chats.

Anyway, can someone tell (or preferably show) me the difference between 4-Speed's regular hat and his Spanish yellow hat? Are they both yellow with blue print? If you have both, can you please post a side-by-side photo?

I know Spanish 4-Speed has a white version of his hat too. (Well, at least that one is easy to tell apart from his regular yellow one.) All the Spanish Brothers had both white and yellow hats, right? And I think the white ones have pink print, while the yellow ones have blue print, is that correct? Thanks!!

Pony Corral / Baby Half Note puffy sticker
« on: May 04, 2019, 04:43:37 PM »
Hi! Regarding the puffy sticker for Baby Half Note (she's wearing a tutu and leg warmers): was it released in the US, or only in Europe? I know her flat sticker is from the US, but I'm not sure about the puffy version.

And can someone please post a link to the G1 sticker guide? I can't find it anymore.

Pony Corral / G4 plushes: licensed or not?
« on: December 28, 2018, 10:54:12 AM »
I've fallen woefully behind on G4; there's so much stuff available, I just can't keep up! So I'm trying to catch up when I can get a good deal.

I only collect officially licensed MLP stuff. I know there's a lot of unofficial stuff on Ebay, and for the most part I can tell the difference. But some of the plushes have me scratching my head. Specifically the ones like Double Diamond, Twilight Velvet, Sugar Belle, Fleur de Lis, Cherry Jubilee, Daring Do, etc.; there's a whole bunch all made in the same style. They have some sort of tags and I can tell they're factory-made. But are they officially licensed, or just high quality knock-offs? I hope they're official, because they look a lot better than all the other licensed plushes except maybe Build-a-Bear.

Trader & Shipping Support / Is Esnipe down??
« on: December 08, 2018, 10:50:15 PM »
I was having problems with Esnipe about a week ago. I got an error message saying that my account was no longer synced with Ebay, or something like that. I ended up bidding manually on the item, and sent a message to the company telling them of the probem. I didn't hear back from them and haven't bid on anything since. I just tried to log in with them, and I can't even get the site to load. Is anyone else able to log in, or am I the only one having problems for some reason?

Wow, I hope they didn't shut down! I've been using them for years! Can anyone recommend another good sniping service?

Trader & Shipping Support / Has anyone used Xoom? (New Paypal service)
« on: October 01, 2018, 09:23:16 PM »
It looks like Paypal has a new service salled Xoom. Has anyone used it? It looks like it provides a way to send bank transfers from America. If so, that would be great, because a lot of sellers in Europe don't want to accept Paypal. Usually I have to ask other members here for help with bank transfers.

Is there a fee? Well, I'm sure there must be a fee; they need some way to make money. But does anyone know how it works? It looks like the needed info is bank name, IBAN code, BAC code, and recipient's name, address, and phone number.

It would be great if this is a way to buy things from European sellers who don't want to accept Paypal! Hopefully the fee isn't too bad; Western Union charges $50 per transaction!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Need advice on beginning digital art
« on: September 08, 2018, 02:27:58 PM »
OK all you young whipper snappers! I'm an oldschooler who needs your technical advice.

I want to create some T-shirt designs featuring animals. I can draw pretty well by hand, but I have zero experience creating digital art.

The designs I have in mind are simple and flat, no shading or anything, and will only have a few colors. Of course I still want them to look good, not pixellated or anything.

I'm not terrible with computers, but I'm definitely not good with them. I can use programs like Microsoft Publisher pretty well, and I have some experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

I can buy a new program and/or equipment to do what I want, but I don't want to spend very much. Like no more than $100 or $200. I have a decent tablet, but my computer is ancient; I really need to buy a new one.

So how do I get started? Basicly I'm looking for an easy and cheap introduction to doing basic digital art that will still look nice on a T-shirt.

Thanks!!

MLP Nirvana / Are Columbians officially licensed?
« on: August 19, 2018, 01:55:49 PM »
I haven't really started collecting Columbians yet and only have one. Something just occurred to me. Have any MOC Columbians been found? Do we know for sure if they were officially licensed from Hasbro?

Pony Corral / Too big for Billy Bookcases: Displaying huge collections
« on: March 24, 2018, 12:26:25 PM »
After 35 years of collecting ponies, I've amassed a really huge collection of all gens. I don't know how many, but it's got to be close to 2000 by now, plus plushes, merch, and other vintage toys.

I've been moving around a lot for the last 10 years trying to launch my career. I've finally landed a permanent salaried job and am happy to put down roots for a while in southeast Ohio.

My collection has mostly been boxed for many years, but I'm looking forward to finally displaying them in my new home. The last time I was able to display them all, they numbered around 600. One bedroom probably won't be enough to show so many toys now, ha ha! Wall space will be precious, which brings me to my problem.

I know most collectors recommend Billy bookcases from Ikea. They're cheap, look nice, and have glass doors to keep out the dust. But they're only about 11 or 12 inches deep, enough for about two rows of ponies per shelf, maybe three if you squeeze in some babies in front. And many playsets don't fit.

With so many ponies, I really need a system that can accomodate four rows of ponies per shelf, plus playsets. So I need something twice as deep as Billy, at least 20 inches, preferably 24.

I've read that Ikea recently started a new line of deeper Billy bookcases. But they're still only 15 inches deep; that's not going to cut it for me. I'm considering systems of customizable Ikea wardrobes or pantries. The Pax wardrobe system looks good, though it doesn't seem to come with glass doors.

I'm wondering if anyone else has found a good shelving system for huge collections. Any suggestions? I know I'm not the only one here with a giant collection.

Trader & Shipping Support / Is eSnipe dropping snipes?
« on: June 17, 2017, 10:52:34 AM »
Over the last few weeks, I've set a few snipes on eSnipe that have failed. When I check my history, they're not showing up at all, as if I had messed up and forgotten to finish placing the snipes. At first I thought I had messed up, but it just happened again. It's unlikely that I would mess up twice. Has anyone else noticed this?
