Pony Corral / Re: What's your unattainable grail?

Ice Crystal and just about any piggy pony.

While their prices are realistically affordable compared to some grails, I just can't bring myself to spend more than $100 CAD on a single pony due to my budget.

Purple and neon yellow/chartreuse. (eg: flutter yum yum, prince firefly)

I don't even know why, I just love it so much.

G1. Gusty
Tales: Patch
G2: Prince Firefly
G3: Midnight Dream
G3.5: Cheerilee
G4: Queen Chrysalis

I had been debating buying some hair from her to re-tail some of my ponies with, but I put it off because I've heard how some people have had difficulties with her. As a trans man, I absolutely refuse to do business with people like her. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Absolutely disgusted...

Awesome!!!
Very awesome!

Awesome! Man, friends are the best for finding and delivering pony things!
They really are. I'd have like no ponies if it weren't for them. Our thrift shops are garbage!

Yay for the ponies, and your descriptions gave me a laugh!
I'm glad that you found them amusing! I love it when people get a chuckle out of me being a big dork, haha :D

Pony Brag Arena / Took a year, but I finally got 'em!

So, a while back I posted that a friend of mine in New York got in a massive pony donation of G1s, G2's and G3's.

Well, due to international shipping costs being rough on both of us, it took the better part of a year to finally send the first half of the wave. (and boy did i enjoy that fedex invoice... lol)

Here's the G1s and fakies that my friend in NY sent me! Some before n' after shots (though, I didn't take befores for all of them due to just how nasty they were) and tbh, nothing really rare in here, but I love getting ponies so I'm excited anyway! :D

As usual, the images will be in spoiler tags because this post is very picture heavy.

Applejack! I've always wanted a G1 Applejack, she's so cute. c:

Cherries Jubilee about to become pony soup! She had the driest hair of out the entire lot.

Cherries Jubilee after a good soak n' scrub. She looks a lot better now :)

Cotton Candy also before being dunked in the soup.

and now her hair is nice n' shiny again~

My first Peachy out of possibly many more to come. :P

Peachy's tail washer, because she had rustbutt. I managed to get the rust stains out of her tail for the most part.

Snuzzle, who had been stored with a saddle on. :c

Other side to show how nasty she was.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The lighting was kinda bad here, she isn't actually yellow, but now she's all cleaned up aside from her saddle sores.

All 3 of them together c:

Blossom, who I am keeping away from my herd because she was super sticky when I first washed her. It took 3 separate washes with dish liquid to get rid of the stickiness... That, plus she's covered head to toe in pindot/smooze. No amount of hot water and scraping seemed to help.

Glory, who is riddled with age spots inside but only has maybe like.. one light blotch on the outside that the camera didn't pick up. She also has what looks like a rust spot on one side of her symbol, but she's much whiter than my other Glory who has no tail and worn symbols.

Sparkler! I love Sparkler, I'm happy I finally have her back! :D
The spot on her shoulder seems to be an age spot or a stain since it didn't wash off after heavy scrubbing, but one spot does not a bad pony make.

Speedy! I only had to wash her tail to get rid of some frizz, but she was probably one of the two cleanest ponies in the box. I only washed over her with a wet rag. She does have a patch of lighter discolouration across her back, but it's barely noticeable.

Sweet Tooth. She has some frizzy hair. I did my best with it.. ^^;

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Parasol was also pretty clean, but I still dunked her because her hair was pretty tangled and nasty.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Tossles is the other pony I didn't have to wash aside from with a wet rag. I've never had a Happy Tails pony before, I had no idea they were so soft and rubbery compared to normal poners!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sunbeam. Oh sweet Star Catcher, this poor thing...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I'm gonna have to try and un-bend her horn later, but at least she's clean now.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sundance. She may look fine, but her previous owner seems to have tried to get her head off and ended up sawing through her plug, so her head just kinda dangles on a hinge of what's left of it. :c

Baby ponies!
Spoiler

Baby Cotton Candy, who has some eye rub and a regrind spot, but her hair is still mostly pink so that's a bonus! Her tail washer wasn't attached (and her head wasn't removed, so i'm sure that's a factory thing?) so I took it out and put it away.

Baby Leaper!
He has a big red ink stain on the back of his neck, but thankfully that can be hidden by his hair... The rest of the red stuff washed off with a wet paper towel. He does have a few other little spots of ink on his legs, but they're tiny. He came with that G4 Applejack hat on him, which I think is adorable. Yee haw, little pardner.

Baby Stockings, who has the cutest face I've ever seen. That is a face that could get away with murder.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Baby Fifi and her baby fakie army.

Oh my God, Fifi and these fakies had the NASTIEST, STICKIEST INSIDES I'VE EVER FELT!!!
It took me 2 soaks, and 10 hours of scrubbing their insides (the inside of the heads were super difficult..) with wet AND dry paper towels to get rid of the stickiness! Fifi also had a dark film on her outside. Like, she was almost black from all the dirt coating her.

A drawing of my grail, Ice Crystal. This is as close as I'll probaby ever get to owning one. PFFT!

The box. I am keeping this box. It's a nice box.

Also, shoutout to mewthemew for sending me this bunch of fakies!

I call the yellow and purple G3 fakies Trebella and Herabella. They're sisters.
Big pink fakie is named Eyes because she has big scary eyes.
White fakie is Copybrite
and the big blue fakie in the picture below is named Nosebleed because her painted in nostrils make her look like she has a nosebleed.

Not pictured because I'm lazy: A G1 pony shirt and a Loyal Subjects Sundance. She sent me a blind box as a surprise. Those things are bigger and heftier than I thought they would be! I also forgot to take an individual picture of Baby Quackers. Oops.

TL;DR:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

All the G1s except for 35th Minty, Bride, Starshine, the leftmost Glory, Gusty and High Flyer were in the box. They were disgusting and had extremely dry, frizzy, tangled hair. Now they're awesome except for Blossom (heh.) and Fifi was still drying when I took this pic so she's not in there.

The end. :drunk:

My biggest repro wants are TE's and Big Brothers so I won't feel as bad about wanting to customize one into Ice Crystal. >_>;

Pony Corral / Re: Original G1 smells & G1 Retro smells
« on: February 24, 2019, 12:17:20 AM »
The G1 ponies my friend sent me a while ago still have that lovely vanilla-y smell to them despite being so old and clearly in played with condition. Every time I open the cupboard they're in I get a big whiff of vanilla and coconut from Coconut Grove xD

I usually have an issue with scented stuff and am allergic to perfumes and such, but oddly, the retro rainbow ponies scents don't bother me? I could sniff them all day.

Call Upon the Sea Ponies from G1 and Wish You Were Here from G3 are constantly popping into my head.

They're just so darn catchy!

I wanted to add another thing, since we're on the subject of FiM...

The songs. Everyone loves the songs, but I can't really like most of them because of how heavy the autotune is. I have a sensitive ear for these things and if I can hear the autotune it instantly turns me off a song. I haven't seen every episode though, so I might've missed some good songs that haven't been autotuned to death. I did enjoy quite a few songs, though. This Day Aria probably being my favourite.

I'm not trying to say G1 had better songs, either. Some of them were downright dissonant with the poor audio mixing and screechy voices. I do like a majority of G3's songs, though. Most of them are really catchy and I hate it. I still have Wish You Were Here stuck in my head after all these years.

I would love to, but I can't afford to buy all of them once, let alone twice.

They don't sell them in store where I live, so I have to buy them online. A single loose 35th Anniversary pony costs about $35-$45 with shipping and taxes included. The 5 piece rainbow pony pack cost me $107, but it was an early Christmas present to myself, so I splurged a little. I then got myself Minty and will probably get 1 or 2 unicorns. I'd love to get them all, but it's cheaper for me to just buy the real ones at those prices.

So am I. Can't stand flash. G3's animation is nice to look at, if a little oversaturated. A pity the toon itself is rather bland.
Even as someone who adores G3's style, I can agree. I watch them much less often than the G1 toons. They're cute, but there's not much substance beyond that.

Pony Corral / Re: Unpopular Pony Opinions

I believe that even with all its animation errors, the original G1 cartoon still looked way better than the new flash series.
I know I'm in the minority when I say this, but man, I think even G3's animation was just a smidge better. At least their hair moved around when they were in motion and didn't just wave around like wet cardboard, but, I'm also just heavily biased against flash and cheap looking flash-style anyway.

I mean, I love junk like Homestar Runner, but I wouldn't want to be paying to watch it on TV. When Arthur switched to flash, I couldn't watch it anymore because it's so stiff and flat looking now. It's just a bit depressing to see animation kinda... devolving? as time goes on. I never knew how much I'd miss looking at beautifully detailed backgrounds until everything went to Flash/Toonboom and 3D. I know cartoons aren't made for my age range anymore, and money's a bigger issue now, but it still just.. hurts.

Pony Corral / Re: What are your pony goals for 2019?
« on: January 03, 2019, 11:46:05 AM »
My only goal is to try and get a decent condition My Pretty Pony. Something I hopefully don't have to dismantle to clean/repair, since I don't trust myself not to break something, but also not mint condition because I can't afford that. lol >_>;

Gustyyyy, but I'm biased because I love Gusty so much, lol. She's adorable and has a really nice colour scheme.
