G1 Cotton Candy Variant, perhaps?

Here's something I've been trying to figure out for quite a while.

Everyone here knows G1 Cotton Candy, right? It's not a secret that her eyes are purple.

But this spring, I found one at a rummage sale. I've noticed that she doesn't have purple eyes.
Hers are actually blue!

I just can't figure out why this is. Is it a sign of aging? Is she a factory error? Please help!

They look purple to me, just a different shade of purple.

Not a factory error, but a factory variant.    It could be caused by different batches of paint being mixed for the eyes, or else because Cotton Candy was released several times.  First the concave ponies were released at the end of Year 1, then Cotton Candy and Blossom were released with Year 2, then Cotton Candy was sold in several mail order offers as one of the Collector ponies.

Perhaps a very dark shade of purple.
I can see how she'd be a variant. Though, I wonder why I haven't seen more if that's the case?

Aww she looks great with blue eyes! I think its a cool variant too, I have a g1 cotton candy that has one eye purple like the wiki pony, and the other is the same pink as her body! She hasn't faded in the least and is a very solid darker pink, just an odd eye variant

Wow, that sounds beautiful! I absolutely adore heterochromia in animals/people. You should post pics. : p

Yeah Cotton Candy's eyes come in purple or blue or green!  Depends on the batch, whether it faded, a variant, which release of CC it was...

She looks lovely. For the zillions of her that were produced there's bound to be variations. The ones that have pinkish symbols are kinda neat too...

Out of my CCs the eye color ranges from a blurple(blue toned purple) to a red toned purple(wine color ),  and every shade inbetween.

Unfortunately its not even a factory error. Its just a pigment issue in the colour of her eyes - different batches, the issue of red pigment being the least stable and general time & conditions simply combine to cause this. Cotton Candy's eye colours are a regular conversation. But in fact all of the ponies which were released with this colour find a themselves a shade of eye somewhere between blue and purple - Moondancer is another one who is prone to it.

Yes! Red pigment leaks and fades incredibly over the years. Like cat said, it's the least stable pigment. I don't think I've had a cotton candy with the same shade eyes ever!

Hehe, "blurple".  So cute.

Majesty is the absolute "worst" (best?) pony for eye variations.  I hardly ever see two exactly the same, and often the same pony will have two different color eyes.  It makes her unique, that's for sure!

I can agree with that! I'd like to own a heterochromic Majesty.
Heck, I'd make a whole army of heterochromic pones if I could.

I have a Cotton Candy with truly blue eyes (not blurple) -- I should take a picture, but I can't get to her easily right now. I also have the normal Cotton Candies with purple eyes. My theory has been that for some reason a portion of the mail order Cotton Candies were made with blue eyes. Maybe I can get a picture up soon . . .
