Title: How to mix tinsel into hair? (Or where to get premixed)
Post by: starrynights on December 17, 2019, 06:55:13 PM
How do i mix tinsel into hair without making a huge tangly mess? Or is there a search term or place to find hair that already has tinsel in it?

Which rehairing method do you use?

I've never worked with tinsel but I'd imagine you can simply add it after rehairing if using the rehair tool...? With the needle & thread / knotting method I'd add a few strands per plug (individually). I probably wouldn't try to actually blend the tinsel and the hair, that could turn out quite messy indeed!

That said, I'm pretty sure I've seen some sellers carrying pony/doll hair with tinsel mixed in, but can't remember which seller it was and this was several years ago.

If you use the tool, you would want to just poke a few strands in after the initial plug of hair is put in.
For the knotting method, I would slip the eye of the needle in the full plug (if you have long enough needles. I use doll needles so they are plenty long), thread the knotted tinsel, and then pull it up and out.

I just cut my tinsel to the same length of each hank, laid it on the hank, tied my knot, and finished the hairing as usual.  It made things take a little longer than usual but didn't require any special meathodology. I use the knot method as I find it a bit more secure, but I think this would work with a hairing tool and glue too.

She looks gorgeous! I do use the tool and glue, I didn't know I could push the tool back in after the hair has been rooted

Yep! I do it all the time to add a little extra hair or to add tinsel.

Another option is Moonlight or Sunlight hair.  A plug or partial plug interspersed gives shimmer with the same texture as hair.

I use the rooting tool from Debra Myer (love that tool) & when I add tinsel to hair I add one strand per plug, at the same time as the plug, then root the lot in, like I did here. For the tail I just roughly mix it in.
