Should I ? // Shan't I?
« on: April 29, 2014, 11:19:07 AM »
I figured making a question thread would be handy, so that if people have any kinds of question similar, they could post here too ^.^

My question is that I own a mint bodied Tornado with very bright white hair that is a MESS. It's dry and sgraggly, and I've given up trying to tame it. However, I have come across a way to make his hair beautifully pink, and I've done it to my Flurry, but am I devalueing him? Especially since it is such a pricey pony and I know that eventually down the road I'll sell the majority of what's left of my collection. It's not a hold fast dye and I don't for my collections purposes want a permanent dye I guess. This stuff is perfect and to set it, you straighten it with straighteners on the hair, and it stays, but washing it each time takes a little out, kind of like semi permanent hair, and I fear it'll just end up streaky, but for me, I don't wash his hair anymore anyway. Soooo....?

Repinking is pretty common, but I have no idea if it affects value.

I acutally have no idea.
I would honestly say he would be considered a 're-haired' pony, after doing so though! :)

I think if it makes you happy go for it.

Yes, changing a pony will devalue it. Repinking is essentially restoring; however different people will value a restored pony at different levels depending on their individual preferences as well as the level of restore carried out.

Tornado tends to hold his value well even if he has faded to white hair. I dont actually think repinking him is going to knock his value lower than a faded white version. Yes personally I would expect to pay less for a pony with repinked hair than its original faded but I think that is an uncommon opinion. As long as the pink holds [no streakiness], as long as its an accurate shade of pink then I am sure he will hold the value of the bottom end of Tornado.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more or less for a repinked pony. It's totally different than rehairing, I mean, it's still the original hair! And if you need to, you can even "restore" the hair to it's fadedness pretty easily. I just can't see how this would affect value at all. So if you'd like him better with pink hair, I say do it. I'm not a fan of rehairing G1s who aren't totally bald, but repinking doesn't bother me at all.

Repinked hair doesn't bother me because like Pink said, it's still original hair. Just be careful that since it isn't permanent that the dye won't bleed into the pony.

I'd say go for it. I'm a big fan of restoring ponies to their original glory. IMO he does look fab either way. Your pony, ultimately call.

In this case, forget about the money. Money is nothing. Ponies are life!
