Good bases for a custom Danny doll?
« on: August 02, 2020, 12:05:40 PM »
I've long wanted to make a Danny doll to go with Megan and Molly. But I've never been sure on what would be a good base for him. Obviously it would need to be a doll with the same head-to-body ratio as them in order to match... And it would need similar leg articulation (At minimum), to be able to sit on ponies. ~5" from scalp to sole would be a good size, I think, since that's between Megan's 6" and Molly's 4". Coming with rooted hair already would be ideal, since that means the head is set up for it without me having to modify it.
EDIT TO CLARIFY: The leg articulation, intermediate size, and head-to-body ratio are the most important things.

Anyone have recommendations? The base doesn't necessarily have to be male, just as long as the chest isn't overly pronounced or anything.

What if you played around with a Molly doll? That's the quickest thing that comes to mind.

There are two problems with that. One is that Danny's the middle child so he should be between Megan and Molly size-wise, and the other is that I don't want to cannibalize an official Megan or Molly doll if I don't have to.

Finn from Lottie Doll!

Unfortunately, he's too big. He's 7.5", which is an inch and a half taller than Megan's doll. If I was going for a grown-up Danny doll he might work, but...

In my own research, I have found four possibly-workable bases thus far: A blank Nendoroid (I'd have to do the hair myself, but it has the articulation and the proportions possibly work), a 5" Disney mini Princess, a 5" Sofia the First doll, and a "Just Play spirit riding" figure.
Does anyone have any of these for comparison (the Nendoroid need not be a blank, any Nendoroid should do)? And can anyone tell me if the Sofia doll would have the requisite leg articulation?

I can eliminate the blank Nendoroid dolls as an option, while they're larger than regular nendoroids, they're about 10cm tall or 4 Inches, the same as Molly.

I just checked on ebay and if it's this one https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FQAAAOSwKGRfTW5k/s-l1600.jpg the legs move at the hips but not the knees, the same way the Megan doll does, so that might be a good option

I'll have to look into that.

Huh. The listing I saw says 12cm, which is 4 3/4".

Megan actually does move at the knees, but in a "bendy doll" sort of way.

Bucky Buckaroo the Moondreamer! The Moondreamer mold was also used for Megan (and maybe Molly?) so the Danny mold is logically Bucky.

Bucky looks to be the same size as the others, though. And the Moondreamer mold looks like it's the mold used for TAF Megan, not regular, so that's also an issue..

Thanks for the suggestion all the same
