Posting just so I can keep track of the swap. I'm not sure, but I think my new machine has some embroidery options. I just haven't gotten a chance to play with it much. Plus I need to buy a walking foot for it, so I'll be shopping once we get partners. Can't wait!

Aww, Buffy, I'm sorry.  :(  But it's important not to overextend yourself.  If this is a success I'll do another round next year.

I hope you do it next year! I'm a newbie to the Arena so I don't have any references; hopefully I'll be eligible soon :D

I love making  plushies for my daughter. I use ValleyViolet's pattern (her alicorn one comes out next month!!), and I paint the eyes and cutie marks with acrylics mixed with fabric medium.

I've got a Husqvarna, not exactly sure which model. A lot of the schools around here use them 'cause they're workhorses & you really have to try to break them. My old 60's Singer just died on me not too long ago, & I've never had a brand new machine to work on. So I'm very eager to have something to sew on it.

I cannot sew ponies to save my life and have very little room for any plush things in our house but I do love plush ponies so I will have to watch this thread to see everyone's awesome swaps!

I was looking into a walking foot but it cost $200 for my mom's old Bernina.  I'll just stick with hand basting to keep the pieces together and maybe check out second hand ones.  I'm also going to check out my late Grandma's sewing machine that I inherited, maybe she got a walking foot for hers.

I'm going pattern hunting with all these suggestions. :)  And I quite like how you do your eyes, CoonhoundBetty, it's quite a nice texture.  Thanks for sharing.

The Bernina ones are $60-70 on ebay.  Hmmm, I really should check out Grandma's cheaper sewing machine.  I can't remember if I got all the extras with it though I should have them somewhere.

But please tell me all about embroidery machines, that I may want to buy but really know nothing about.  Do you use sewing machines that also embroider or is it a seperate machine?  The idea of being able to emboider what ever I want... oh, the power.  I might turn into one of the bedazzler people but with embroidery.  I can see it now, everyone in the family will even have their undies embroidered.

That was a lot of 'embroidery' for one paragraph... :lookround:

Yeah, I think the lady I bought my machine from said it would be $20-$30...

A really good embroidery machine usually goes for $1000+... They have a computer in them, so you can upload your pattern & it will pretty much do the work for you. Too pricey for me, so that's all I know. A lot of the newer, but cheaper, 'basic' machines can do some free form embroidery. But for that I would need a basic understanding of how embroidery is done :P Plus a hoop & everything else. So we'll see how far I get with that.

I love your plushie emberfly! I agree, her eyes are gorgeous!

I would LOVE to have an embroidery machine! I think I would be an embroidery nut too if I had one. My mom has one, but I think it is broken. :( I don't even have a really decent regular sewing machine, I've got the $50 one from Walmart that my grandma bought for me when I was in college. :S But it does the job. One of these days I'll get a nice machine (maybe an embroidery one!).

Okay, I may regret the stress I put myself through, but I have to sign up for this swap!! Sending in my application now. :D

Yay, another applicant.

The plushie isn't mine, it's CoonhoundBetty's and it is really cute. :)

Some really top end embroidery machines look to be in the thousands.  I can't afford a walking foot much less a nifty new machine.  I'll have to make do with what I've got.  It's a good machine I'm working on, an old Bernina, so I'm pretty lucky that way at least.
Thank you to SquarePeg for my beautiful avi.
