This swap is for anything Harry Potter!
Feel free to add in inspirational pics to this thread.
This swap will include a BASIC and ADVANCED category. The basic category is for repaint/rehair, small sculpted bits, etc. Join the advanced category if you're planning major sculpting, sewing, reposing work, etc.
Dates:
Sign ups: NOW- May 3 or until 20 spots have been filled
Partners assigned on or before May 10
First check in: June 7th
Progress picture required July 5th
Final check in: August 11th
Shipping August 11th - 15th
Please remember to always check your organizer's feedback before joining a swap.

Rules:
1. You must have at least 3 positive Arena feedback and no negative Arena feedback.
2. You must have been an Arena member for at least 3 months before sign ups are over.
3. You must have pictures of at least 3 of your most recent customs to show the quality of your work. This is a skill based swap and I need to know where to put you.
4. Ship on time! I realize real life issues come up sometimes. If this happens, I want to know about it as soon as you realize you will be late.
5. No shipping early! I will be withholding addresses until shipping time to prevent this. The exception will be after final check in and your partner is ready to ship as well.
6. Be prepared with progress pics at progress date.
7. Final pictures are REQUIRED. I want to know that your custom is finished before you ship it out. If you do not check in with a picture, you will not be receiving a pony!
8. Let me know right away when you ship your pony and when you receive one.
9. Do not let anyone know who your partner is. It is a secret.
10. Extras are nice, but not required,This is about the customs. You worked hard on it, it should be the most exciting part.
11. This swap includes all generations of ponies (G1, G2, G3, G3.5, and G4), if there are any of these you do not like, include that in your form. Do not use any fakies unless your partner requests it.
12. You must be in no more than 2 other custom swaps (total of 3).
13. The title of your PM should be "Quidditch", so I know you read the rules. If the title of your pm is not right, you will not be added to the sign up list.
14. PM the sign up form to Hannaliten by the sign up deadline. I will do my very best to get partners out ASAP.
15. KEEP YOUR SHIPPING RECEIPTS! You need to be able to produce proof of shipping when asked. You need to hold onto your receipt until your partner confirms that they have received their pony. I also highly recommend delivery confirmation for those not shipping internationally.
16. IF AT ANYTIME YOU DO NOT ABIDE BY ANY OF THESE RULES, YOU WILL BE PULLED FROM THE SWAP. This includes, but is not limited to, missing check ins and sharing partners. Make sure you are familiar with the rules before you sign up. You are expected to follow them.
17. Please be willing to Post Internationally. It makes it a lot easier to pair people by skill when everyone is willing to post anywhere.
If your not willing to post internationally which I understand, please don't be offended if your paired with someone not based entirely on skill.
18. Customs MUST be posted in a BOX. a well packed padded, bubble wrap, peanuts, foam something, but MUST be posted in a box. and must include a card or note from you to say who its from.

Anything that has to do with HP. You'd be listing 5 item, characters, spells, whatever, for your partner.

I had so much fun with this when I was in one. I still have my custom from it too . I dont do much customizing lately but id love to see the harry potter themed ponies in the forum again. ^^ theres soooo much that you can do with those movies!

I say just run it! Otherwise if we wait it would probably run into the Halloween swap... there's probably always going to be some conflict, and there's no harm in joining two swaps (if you have room/time to do so.)

There will be. I'm still fine tuning the details
ETA: I will accept up to 20 participants. You'll be divided into basic/advanced, based on what kind of work you want to do. I will also accept beginners into this swap. This is a great opportunity for anyone starting out with customs or who doesn't have enough feedback to join the regular category. I will be on hand to answer any questions or to brainstorm ideas with anyone.

A vanishing dormroom drawer, I think! I mean the rugs and stuff I still have, but a lot of the decor items like hanging art and the big crest I know I packed and took to college but never put up, and I haven't seen them since!

Oh, no! That stinks most of it is gone. I'll be going to Universal Orlando at the end of May so I'll have to pick something up for my swap partner while I'm at Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I'm really excited about this swap!

I've put myself on Salli's permanent waiting list. When ever she's ready to make me more Snape ponies my monies will magically appear in her wallet lol. I wish to monopolize the Salli made Snape pony market. Usually you can find me in a dark corner holding the Snape custom ponies while in my best Gollum voice saying "preeccciousssssss, my preccccioussssss".

UGH, jealous Mana! I am waiting for the one in california to open, but that's not supposed to be ready until 2016. I need to go with my best friend, because we met through an online Harry Potter RPG. And she lives in LA. I guess we could in theory go on a trip to florida together, but it makes more sense to wait.

I found out my patronus(a wolf) through a quiz. I actually took several because....reasons. :P If you google it you will find plenty to choose from.

I chose my patronus because I honestly believe that's what it would be if I were really a wizard XD Ever since I was a kid I've had an affinity for lions and have always seen them as protectors - probably came from reading the narnia books at a young age!

My coworkers introduced me to Pottermore recently. It sorted me into Slytherin... I don't see it in myself. I see myself more as Hufflepuff or something. It least the Slytherin common room is awesome, right?

Or you can choose your patronus! XD It would be impossible for me to choose as there are several animals I really have an affinity for, so I let a quiz decide for me.
I wonder now...if anyone in the books ever had a Dragon patronus and it was just never mentioned. Can you imagine summoning something the size of Smaug and how scared the dementors would be?

I am such a huge HP fan! It's good to see so many Ravenclaws here! I would be so interested in an HP swap if you're ever doing this again in the future. Hopefully I'll have been involved enough by then to have done some things for feedback. Thanks for starting such a fun swap! It's great just to be able to see what people have done in the HP category.

I chose my patronus, though I guess it could be fun to see what quizzes would give me also :) Sonata, my greyhound, was the joy of my life so I think it fits.
I took couple of tests, one gave me frog and another wolf. Quite a difference between those two... XD

Okay, I did third test regarding what my patronus would be and got a stag/doe. Needless to say I don't trust these tests much, each seems to give a different answer - or maybe I have an infinite number of patronuses depending on my mood? XD Nah, just kidding, it's just the tests. ;)

I've loved Ravenclaw house forever and I was super nervous when I took the Pottermore quiz, but it sorted me in Ravenclaw too! YAy! Yep, I'm a nerd :D The sorting hat in the books takes a person's choice into account more than anything so even if you get sorted into a house you don't like, I feel like you would be in the house you want. Like when the hat wanted to put Harry into Slytherin.
I chose my patronus too. I had an imaginary friend who was a pegasus as a kid so it's kind of that. I should take a quiz though for fun. I feel like the quizes have such a limited number of outcomes. Like what if you love ocelots and there aren't any on there? Or iguanas? Or naked mole rats? I feel like it should be an animal you feel a connection with.
Ooo, a dragon would freaking rock. You'd have to be a Slytherin for that one for sure. Smaug as a patronus makes me wonder if I can just have Benedict Cumberbatch as my patronus....;) I wonder if you could have a sea creature as a patronus? Like a shark or jellyfish?

I know that there were wizards with a wooly mammoth and a giant for a patronus, so I don't see why you couldn't have a dragon! That would be awweeesome.

Dolphins are the jerks of the ocean, so I say you patronus should be whatever you want it to be. ^.^ Personally, I kind of want to change mine to a Dragon now that we have been talking about it so much.
I bet Charlie Weasley had a dragon patronus....

Glitter and metallics are awesome in moderate amounts, but please don't drown the custom in either if it's not necessary for your custom. Not sure about flocking, I guess it could be nice :)

Flocking: not unless what you are making REALLY needs to be flocked. I'm not a huge fan of it but I can imagine some customs that would kind of need to be flocked to work.

my favorite movie is hard to judge....i love Azkaban....and Chamber....and Goblet....and basically all of them. An easier question to answer is which is your least favorite. That would be Order...cause Umbridge makes my skin crawl.

Hm... I guess it would depend specifically on the thing. I don't think I put too many things on my list that would be that different. When it comes to actual plot and characters I prefer staying true to the books, but I think the movies did a great job with the visual representation of the HP world.

Fave movie: Chamber of Secrets (I <3 Lucius in that one, but I hate the spiders!). I also love the first film even though the centaurs make me pull my hair out just because it's so fun kind of being reintroduced to everyone. :) (My favorite book is the 3rd but it's my least favorite movie because the director SUCKED.)
Movie vs. book accuracy: It just depends. I like the black/blue Ravenclaw from the later movies, but I like the book's version of the centaurs. I usually lean towards movie though. I think... :lookround:
Pony update: In a rare couple of efficient days I got a bunch of sculpting done. I was lucky enough to have the bait I needed. If it comes together really quickly I may make a second pony (no sculpting needed on that one) just because it was so hard to decide between the 2 ideas I drew up and I want to make it!)

What is everyone's favorite book? Mine is hands down Goblet of Fire as that is when the story really "grew up" in my opinion and sooooo much happened in it.
Favorite movie: DH1 as it is the only movie that really followed the book.
I am very...uptight about the movies in comparison to the books as my first taste to the entire series was the movies and I was not all that impressed, but once I read the books (Started after Half-Blood Prince came out) I was in love. And the butchering of the fourth movie... I literally can not watch that movie anymore as so much was taken from it and just...no. /end mini rant.
Glitter: Yes, but don't over do it.
Metallic: Same as with glitter.
Flocking: No thank you.
Gloss or Matte: I prefer a matte finish

I prefer the books, but I can live with the movie versions, too. The movies did pretty good job on visualizing the books, so for this swap go ahead and use them as an inspiration if you haven't read the books.

Hard one. I guess everything after the three first movies, the first three were a pain to watch through for me... XD It was a shame as Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book.

I saw a list of the terms they changed to publish the US versions and I was shocked! i.e. torch for flashlight etc...

Bit late to the question-answering party, but here goes:
Styling Size: No objections here.
Glitter: As long as it's not flaky and making a mess, I'm cool with it.
Metallic: Sure.
Plain/Matte: Also fine.
Flocking: Not too fond of this, to be honest.
Books or Movies: Either for 1-6, but I could never finish the 7th book, so I'd prefer the movies in that one's case.
Phrases: Either context is fine. I actually can't think of anywhere this one would apply, as far as what I like in the series.
Where would I be: Probably just wandering the halls, admiring the architecture, and looking for secret passages and shortcuts. I used to love doing that in the video games, as well as messing with the prefects at night. XD

I would most likely be in the library, wolfing down information as much as I could. I would most likely be from a muggle family after all.

Hum. G3 Donkey pose and G3 core six pose. For G1 everything is fine and for G2 I don't care about the magic motion ponies/the ponies with moving limbs.

I'm a Ravenclaw. I sorted myself into Ravenclaw when I first got into Harry Potter. All the online quizzes I've taken have given me the result of Ravenclaw. And when Pottermore came out, it sorted me into Ravenclaw as well. I attended all the midnight movie opening and midnight book release parties dressed as a Ravenclaw, complete with a scarf that my father made for me. Ravenclaw suits me very well, I love to read and to learn. After all, "Wit beyond measure is man's greatets treasure." ;)

the wands are actually chopsticks, hot glue and paint. I had faaaaaaaar too much fun making them! and yes, the spell books have 75+ spells in them ^_^ (the magic word, and what they do)
as for sorting, I always said Gryffindor, but I was Pottermore sorted into Slythern
oh and I don't have any poses that I don't like...I have seen them all work well for particular customs. I will say my favorite pose is seaspray (I seem to like the less common poses - haha)

At one point I read an article and discussion about the pottermore sorting algorithm and it turns out it was basically just one step above random assignment. So I don't put much stock in what pottermore says.
And at any rate, remember that personal choice plays a part in house sorting anyway :P

Not that I know of. I'd recommend making a template from paper towels before cutting in fabric.

I found the first 4 books on CD at the thrift store near my house for $5. I have all the books and prefer to read myself, but my sister prefers listening to the CDs. I was looking through the boxes I packed for ebay years ago and found... TWO BAGS OF PONYS! (Not that I wouldn't have had enough bait (two boxes) to choose from, but now I have three boxes. Yay.

I prefer brushable hair, nylon is my favorite but other types are great too, like saran, polypropylene, kanekalon, etc. I'm not a big fan of yarn or mohair (perfume puff). I'm also not a big fan of sculpted hair. Although I have seen some customs with sculpted hair that look great, so if you think that's what would work best for the custom you have in mind then I'm sure it will be great partner.

Finished my movie watch-a-thon. The last film makes me so annoyed at the flying robes of death scene and the face-groping-'are they going to kiss?-scene with Harry and Voldy that they made just to "look cool" on 3-D. I cry every time Harry goes to die. Also when Snape cries over Lily. Neville rocks!! (And HOW did Matthew Lewis grow into a handsome man? I am baffled.)

I like earth tones and neutrals for mythical creatures such as hippogriffs and dragons, but I'm open to all colors. I don't think "no hair" works for any of my ideas, but I bet it would work for certain things in certain cases.
I just finished rehairing! I tried something new with the colors that was fun! I hope the styling stage goes well! Have a lot to do still, but I think this is my favorite part.

I was using my x-acto to cut off the ponies head, and my 2 year old was watching me. She then proceeded to take one of the plastic spoons from her play kitchen, and pretended to cut on the head of a different bait. It was so cute :heart:

I already despise the time I will have to rehair... the bait is so hard it will cost me at least two needles... *sigh* Any ideas how to soften up the neckline when you did a full body repaint?

I've heard some people mention using a heating pad (or you could probably use a hot water bottle) and letting the head rest on it. I would thing that might warm and soften it just a little without risking damage to the paint.

Wow. Woooooow... Okay, so, my partner had an animal of sorts on her list, right? I drew it, but had trouble with the bottom half, so I tried to have the bottom half kind of fade off in a ghostly manner (which also suited the background), and the ghostly fade somehow ended up looking like a seahorse tail. And the animal isn't even close to resembling a seahorse. XD Yeah, maybe I should fix that...

I like the concept. Smoothing her out more might help you. I find it to be a tedious piece of sculpting that takes practice (I'm still practicing), but working on that aspect has helped my projects.

Dumbledore has so many great quotes. Quotes that make me ponder my life. I'll have to pick one. But for fun, 2 of my favorites are in the CoS movie. I LOVE when Draco says 'I didn't know you could read', Tom Felton does such a fantastic job there. He's not even being mean, he's actually baffled. Love it. And when Lucius is in Hagrid's hut and says "You call this a house?" he does the same thing, normally he would be saying that in a mean spirit but he is honestly perplexed by the fact. So good. Makes me laugh every time.

Yes, it so hard to choose a quote! There are so many good ones. And yes, Umbridge the worst! Probably the worst person in the books. I feel like Voldemort is less evil in some respects.
I suppose if I had to choose just a couple quotes I would pick when Luna says "You're just as sane as I am" and "Words, in my most humble opinion, are the most inexhaustible source of magic we have" from Dumbledore. Dumbledore has soooo many great things to say though.

There are a few I say a lot, haha. Most of them come from Ron. I love the way Rupert plays Ron, he does a great job pulling off the 'I'm a teenage boy and so I'm not always as sharp as I could be' thing and being very genuine and lovable.
One that comes up a LOT is 'Why couldn't it be follow the butterflies?' Because there is a butterfly exhibit at my job, and it's the next building down from mine, so sometimes people come in and need direction. And we have these giant butterfly flag/sculpture things that lead over to the gardens. So I literally get to tell people to follow the butterflies.

I made a thing! After some debate I realized my my custom really needed a base. But I really didn't want it to be too big and bulky, and everything I shopped for was too big, so I had to custom make it. It should be perfect :)

Depending on where you ordered from, well, I wouldn't count on it. Most of the time it's months (and sometimes months and months and months) before colors get restocked. You may need to start looking for someone on the arena to trade or buy from.
Progress is going well here. I'm still working on base construction at the moment while the pony itself is at a standstill.

I've been working on an accessory today. The miniature scale is giving me a literal headache, but I hope it turns out as a fun addition. I just got a new job, so my buying of supplies has been delayed a few weeks, but I've got a good plan to keep me on deadline.
Anyone else working on some fun accessories? I've got three planned, not including clothing. One done, one in progress, and one planned (we'll see how it goes for do-ablity in the real world of a newbie). Actual pony is waiting on some supplies. Got two small extras in mind too, if I have some time at the end. It's just such a fun theme not to!
I can't wait to see everyone's brags! There are so many talented people in here!
Oh, and has anyone put a magnet in a G4 head before? I've seen how people do it with larger model generations, and I have heard of it being done successfully on a G4, but I was wondering the difficulty of it.

The stuff on Pottermore is all written by JK herself. I just read a fascinating bio she wrote about Remus. It made me cry. The reason I don't like Sirius/Remus is that before the 3rd film came out I had a huge crush on Sirius. I am still mad she killed him. I'm also mad they cast Gary Oldman as Sirius, since I wanted Hugh Jackman to play him. Poor Sirius :( I even wrote most of a fanfic explaining how he wasn't really dead, but that was before Harry saw him as a ghost on the way to the forest to face Voldy.

International shipping has gotten insanely expensive. No worries at all :D (Mine isn't international ;) ) I just CANNOT help myself on a Harry Potter Swap. It's hard for me to not send a trunk full of everything Hogwarts. Instance #5,438 where I WISH I had Hermione's bag from the Deathly Hallows.

Same here. In both cases. My pony will take a few more days to arrive at my partner's place though. I sent it thursday last week and it's oversea. Sadly I didn't manage to send exactly in time. Hope it travels fast... *hooves crossed*

Finally the swap pony arrived, apologized and sneezed floo powder. Apparently she was lost in Knockturn Abbey, tried to apparate to my place, mixed up the address, studied a year in hogwarts, became quidditch champion, found a way to conjure food, befriended a Blast-Ended Skrewt and now finally found her way to me.
I'm super happy that she arrived, is in one piece and looks stunningly fabulous. Thank you Jupi, she is perfect - the paintwork, the colours, the hair, the pose. Everything!!! :frolic: YAAAAY!
