Here's the older thread! https://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=383323.0

99 pages and it was started in 2016!!

I was thinking it was getting close to a time for a new anime thread. :D

Here's my last post from the old thread:

Small Sailor Moon rant ahead.

Sailor Moon Cosmos part 1 and 2 just came out on Blu Ray/DVD in Japan last week.  Since then the SM group I'm in on Facebook has had a lot of Cosmos posts.  I don't mind that in itself so much as I do the content.   If someone says they bought the movie, their post is flooded with requests to upload the movie somewhere so more people can watch or post screenshots.  What really annoys me the most though is people posting spoiler screenshots and clips without warning or assuming that everyone's read all of the manga so there's no reason to not show major plot points involving the characters.  For example, someone posted a screenshot from the movie along with the corresponding page of the manga and said "why was it done this way."  I saw another post that said "that didn't happen in the 90's anime."  I've read up the Stars arc of the manga so I know the basics, but not the specifics (I do know about the major change to the Starlights from manga to anime though)  I don't want to see major plot points spoiled on Facebook.

The US has a release date for Suzume and Spy Family Season 1 part 2.  :D

I wondered when the old thread would be retired!

Ponyfan, that's the problem with Facebook groups, there seems to be no way to keep them spoiler-free :( I know some communities make seperate "spoilers-only" groups but I guess it depends on how much the mods care about that stuff. I know Sailor Moon's an old series by now and all but if they're still making new content for it, surely it should be assumed that stuff that's yet to be adapted still counts as a spoiler...!!! *shakes head* Sorry to hear you have to deal with that stuff. -_-

also I hate!!!! it when people demand that others upload things so they can watch it for free! just buy the dang thing yourself or wait patiently for a pirated copy, geez x) I think I've said this before, but I upload a lot of Ojamajo Doremi music/other audio bits to YouTube, every so often I'll get someone asking me where I got it from. When I explain I bought the CD from Japan, they're always shocked!, like the thought that I actually *bought* the thing (instead of, I dunno, finding some secret cache of bootlegs in an obscure section of the net? or something? o.O) just never occurred to them :P I mean I find it kind of amusing, but still.

Replying here so I don't miss out on all the fun conversations!

I started Hanayamata last night.  So far it's cute.  It's about a bunch of middle school (I think) aged girls trying to put together a yosakoi dancing club.  Slice of life, low drama so far.

Carrehz, I had people asking stuff like that a while back too. I translated a bunch of the Daiya no Ace drama cds on Tumblr, and I had people msging me asking where I downloaded the sound track/for the link. And I told them no, I have the CDs, and they were like, well, upload it then.

Like, no.

I sometimes get people asking me about SotsuM/EMU CDs as well (which are admittedly harder to get hold of now, but not impossible). I point them towards yahoo auctions and that's the last I ever hear of them.

I can't stand people who want everyything for free and yet still call themselves 'fans'. I always read the Daiya chapters as they came out online but I still bought all the volumes when they went into print.

...Onto anime.

I am annoyed there was no ep of Apothecary Diaries last week. Not acceptable.

I caught up with Kenshin to the break last night. It's interesting seeing how they've done it, but also I've just been rewatching Moriarty, so having the same guy voicing William and Kenshin is a bit unnerving...

I watched the first season of Restaurant to Another World.  I liked it.  When the dragons become human they are nude and a little bit of violence during certain characters' backstories, but overall it's a pretty chill watch if you want something fluffy.

Spoiler
In one episode they talk about half-elves choosing whether or not to serve the gods and it shows "the house of the gods"

Taffeta - Fans who want everything for free annoy me, too. I've been lucky that people haven't really bugged me to upload more from the CDs or anything, I guess cause I've shared everything I've got - which I share because they're all 20+ years old, out of print, and were only released once (do NOT even get me started on the multiple oddities surrounding Ojamajo Doremi music releases, I swear, I can rant about that for hours :P). I figure if it's been out of print for over a decade w/ no sign of a rerelease, it's pretty much fair game.

(though once or twice I've had people asking me to upload stuff that literally doesn't exist :P)

Although that said, I held off on sharing a newer CD for well over a year because I wanted to encourage people to buy it themselves and not hurt the official sales, and I remember when I mentioned that someone was like "Oh that's so wholesome!" and I was like.... thanks I guess? but that's kind of an odd reaction.. xP

But yeah, on the subreddit I moderate (for an American cartoon, but still), we strictly don't allow any links to pirate sites or downloads, etc, and we get SO MANY people moaning and complaining because omg how DARE we not allow them to spam pirate links?? It drives me nuts.

Personally with all things like this, my opinion is - I don't care if you watch/read/etc stuff via "alternative" methods - heck with some things you really don't have any other option. (like for the cartoon I just mentioned, there's always a long delay between the US release + most international releases, but also it was censored in a lot of countries including the UK, and we only ever got the first half released uncut on home video - pretty much the only way we can legitimately watch it uncut is to import DVDs from the US or Australia, which is pricey to begin with even before you factor in that you need a way to watch DVDs from a different region!) A lot of anime/manga I like never got licensed, or only got a crappy incomplete 4Kids hackjob of a dub, etc etc. I'm never gonna judge someone for pirating, but I think if possible it should be as a "sample" (try before you buy :P) or if that isn't an option, find some other way to support the series. Plus there's always ways to pick up old stuff second-hand. I just hate the entitlement some people have, you know? the attitude that they NEED to have a download and etc etc. Like... if you don't have any intention of paying for it, that's your business, whatever. I'm not going to bug you about it. But don't bug people to upload stuff when they've explained their reasons for not doing so! :P

Carrehz, I basically agree with everything you said.

The SotsuM/EMU CDs I mentioned are like that. It was a manga/novel/drama cd series from around the late 1990s-2000, and it centred around five characters represented by five voice artists who also performed and recorded songs in and out of character during that period.

None of this ever got to the west. The only thing that exists around it that's known about in a more general sense is the Graduation M OVA which is at least partly subbed on Youtube. It's mostly crack (Iirc it involves the main characters dressing up as characters from Little Women for some kind of cultural festival?) and not a great indicator of the overall story/ies. It's not widely known and you'd think that would mean people wouldn't be after the music from this project so long after it didn't make it overseas.

...But they are. Partly because five or six of the songs appear in the OVA on YT, partly because people are interested in the work of the specific voice artists and their random musical things. Such as this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIlyYijQ7iE

So...yeah. I still from time to time get asked to upload the material from the CDs. And I won't. It took time and effort to assemble all of them into my collection. I have thought about translating some of the dramas but it seems pointless given the complete lack of overall western fandom *lol*. It's always the music people want.

(Though the above isn't on the CDs, it was a special for the lives...some of the other live clips on YT are on the CDs).

But yes. Entitlement.

There's a difference between when stuff isn't available and when stuff is but people won't invest in it because they think they deserve content for free.

I clicked on the link because I like going down the voice actor trail but didn't recognize anyone in it.

I think most of the Daiya albums are on US iTunes, but they're missing the dramas.  The only have the song with the voice actor for the character singing and an instrumental version of the song.  They're listed on iTunes as partial albums, so I know something is missing. They're listed under "TV anime Daiya no A" whereas the other official albums come up if you search "Ace of Diamond."

I found these on Youtube about the Daiya stage show.

People continue to spoil Sailor Moon Cosmos on Facebook. I just saw a post that I thought was talking about something that happened in the Dark Kingdom arc but found out it's something that happens in the Stars arc instead.

I tried watching The Red Turtle, but it was hard for me to follow.   I don't usually have a problem with understanding plotlines.  Just having moans, groans, breathing etc... instead of talking was also a bit distracting.   I might give it another try later.

I watched the Raven of the Inner Palace. It ends in such a way that you know there's another arc, but I don't know if one will be animated. I'm not motivated enough to chase up the manga, though.

Still watching Apothecary Diaries. Still hating waiting week on week for new episodes.

Finished watching Kamonohashi Ron's forbidden detective whatever. That one looks like it will have a second season.

Been watching some fun asian dramas this week, too. Shame we don't have a thread for them. :)

I watched the first episode of A Sign of Affection.  I love it already
I was really impressed with how the anime is able to show Yuki's perspective so easily.  Yuki is deaf and when it's what she's thinking or feeling there's little to no background noise showing how she can't hear the sounds around her.

I recognized Eijun's va from Daiya almost immediately as Itsuomi's cousin, Kyoya. It took a few seconds since we don't hear Eijun's more serious tone in Daiya that often.

One thing though, there are people in the first episode visiting Japan that speak English.  When Itsuomi spoke English it sounded natural, but when the others showed up, it was very slow.  The subs said "It's humid" but the character speaking English clearly said "It's wet" instead.

I hate it when the subs don't match what's being said in plain English >_< Even if the English dialogue is a little off/Engrishy, it's just distracting when you can clearly hear that's not what they're saying!

That's what bugged me about the official subs for Tokyo Mew Mew New, they kept changing "Red Data Animal" to "endangered animal" (or something like that). Yeah, RDA isn't a term used in English-speaking countries very often, but it's used a LOT in TMM and it's clear from context what it means - just leave it as is! -_-

This is how I feel about subs in general. It's been so annoying that even though my settings are no subs on CR, they insist on putting them on. They often crash the episode if I try to take them off (which means switching to another language sub and then back to 'none', which is what it should default as). The other day it was really having a laugh, though, as it refused to take the subs off three Japanese shows and then omitted them automatically on a Chinese show - where I would actually need them :'(. Subs on CR are so often off the mark/generalised/plain wrong that they become a distraction; CR not letting me turn them off all the time drives me mad.

I'm also remembering the horrible Engrish in Daiya's American/Japan baseball game...which was also censored from the manga iirc because I'm pretty sure the manga included an expletive.

Sometimes English in Japanese needs to be tidied up to make it make sense. But sometimes it doesn't.

I remember raging about the synopsis for Harukanaru Toki no Naka De Hachiyoushou, back when the US released it on DVD, where it described Yasuaki (who is an onmyouji) as a sorcerer (which is something totally different, sorcerer is a better translation for mahoutsukai or majutsushi) and reduced Ikutidaru and Sefuru to Icktidarl and Sefle. I am so glad that show never had a dub.

omg those romanizations X'D

That's so annoying that Crunchyroll doesn't work though :/

I can understand it if they're at least fixing grammatical errors or something - it's annoying, but I *get* it - but it drives me nuts when they're just straight-up making stuff up :p

Another one was Sugar Sugar Rune (fansubs not official, but still) translating "stick" as "wand". Yeah, I agree, that sounds better, and if it was a dub/manga translation/anything without the original audio I'd wholeheartedly support it... but it's just so silly reading "wand" when you can clearly hear the girls yelling "stick!" :silly:

I was thinking about that when they starting speaking so slowly in A Sign of Affection.  It was such a jarring contrast to the way Itsuomi spoke in the first few minutes (although he says later he's fluent in English )  Let's not forget one of the American players in that Daiya game is named C. Weed.

I found out recently that the new Eternal edition of the Sailor Moon magna has changed Moon Stick to Moon Wand because an editor thought it sounded more "magical" than stick.  It seems silly to change it after all this time just because someone decided that wand sounded better.

Haha yes, C.Weed. The names are all silly, they're mostly one initial and a name or a name and an initial and it's pretty horrible. Iirc the anime gave up on making them speak English at one point and they all start talking in Japanese *heh*.

Though this will always reign as my favourite engrish moment, ever:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKwnoBu7eQA

I remember also how much trouble the subtitlers had with Kyou Kara Maou! when it was still at fansub stage (especially given there were a bunch of licencing issues with it originally, company went bust, etc). And nobody had a clue how some of the (frequently germanic) names were meant to be romanised. Gwendal had multiple surname options. You'd get Josak and Yozak. There's one regular character and I still, honestly, don't know what his name is meant to be.

Then there's Angelique and its naming sense, trying to be all western and all. Heuye and Ernst spring to mind...

This discussion also reminds me of when Albert and Haru met in Free Dive to the Future.  I don't think Haru understands/speaks English fluently and Albert doesn't speak Japanese.  Despite that Albert is able to ask Haru how to order food in English and Haru is able to respond in Japanese as if they aren't speaking two different languages.   Haru is pretty preceptive though so it could be he realized Albert didn't know how to order without needing to understand English.

Iirc Albert is meant to be Swedish, yet randomly talks with an American accent xD.

...I think the overenunciated australian in the end of whichever season it is with Haru and Rin is less problematic (actual English speakers forced to speak very clearly and unnaturally?), and Miyano Mamoru does not too bad with Rin's lines, but still...

I remember that when they were doing the voices for the Haruka 5 game, Shitanda Michael was voicing Ernest Satow. Satow was a real person, an Irish born Victorian-age Briton (Ireland was part of Britain back then). Shitanda Michael's English is excellent. But again, very American...
Title: Re: Anime? Thread #2
Post by: Ponyfan on February 22, 2024, 04:57:53 PM
I always forget that Albert is supposed to Swedish.

Those scenes with Haru and Rin in Australia do seem slow and a little unnatural in places (It was a bit jarring to me to get used to everyone speaking Japanese and suddenly most characters are speaking English.)

I agree the English during the Daiya game is much worse. A lot of it could have been fixed by just changing the sentence structures a bit or getting rid of redundant lines.  Did they really need so may lines about Mei being a Japanese pitcher?  I tried to find a clip of the game on Youtube, but there's none that are useful.

I found part of the clip I was looking for from Sign of Affection.   Itsuomi is the one that appears at :13.  Eijun's va is at around 1:44.   The person that posted this has cut some scenes so the "It's wet" dialogue is missing.

I have Sign of Affection on my to watch list, I've just been waiting for it to stack up some more episodes first XD.

One other thing with annoying subtitling is when you have a series set in an ancient Chinese world and the subtitlers insist on putting the 'proper Chinese' names for the characters, even when the Japanese voice artists are saying all the names with the Japanese character readings.

With Apothecary Diaries, the original dialogue uses pseudo-Chinese pronunciation (MaoMao is MaoMao, for example, which is the chinese reading). But with the Raven of the Inner Palace, the dialogue uses Japanese readings and the subtitles writes the names out in correct Chinese. This may not be an issue if you don't understand the Japanese dialogue, no idea, but it's very jarring when you do and really hard to keep up with who is who. Hence why turning off the subs was so important, LOL :)

I remember the manga for Fushigi Yuugi did a similar thing, turning the Japanese country names, place names, and personal names into Chinese ones, but I saw the anime first and so know all of them as Japanese names (eg Nuriko's sister Kourin is Kang-Lin in the manga translation...I think Tasuki's sister Aidou is Ai-Tong. I've blanked out all the seishi's Chinese personal names and can't remember them xD). To make it worse, though, I'm pretty sure all the stellar names are left in Japanese. So Nuriko is still Nuriko. Tasuki is still Tasuki. Even though their personal names have been changed. Gah.

I also remember the writer of Saiunkoku Monogatari asked for Shuurei's last name to be changed in the English translations, because she was Kou Shuurei in the Japanese and it might have been confusing given there were two families with the surname Kou (different kanji). So she became Shuurei Hong, which was so annoying. Especially when in the anime you can hear her announce herself as Kou Shuurei over and over again.

So yeah. Changing things when you can hear it's meant to be something else is...not great.

(I also have a few twitches with some of the Yona romanisations, but not to the same degree.
Title: Re: Anime? Thread #2

Oooh that's so annoying about the Chinese vs Japanese name thing!! I would totally understand it if they did that just for the dub, that would make sense, but:
So yeah. Changing things when you can hear it's meant to be something else is...not great.
*nod* This!!

Ponyfan, I was thinking about the Moon Stick when I typed that xD I didn't know they'd actually changed it for the most recent translation though. I guess I can understand where they're coming from, but I'd rather they just left it as Stick :/ Yeah it sounds silly (frankly I think the old dub name "Crescent Moon Wand" is nicer), but it's what the author intended (plus it's hardly the only silly name/term in Sailor Moon :P) so... *shakes head* It just feels unprofessional to me, making stuff sound "fancier" is the sort of thing I expect to see from fan translations, not official ones...

It also allows for the hackneyed joke about stick and the Japanese word suteki (which means something like awesome), which sound a little similar when pronounced the Japanese way.

Some of the attacks in Sailor Moon have always made me wonder where those names came from or if the author was just putting different words together.   Names like "Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss" and Star Maker's

Spoiler
"Star Gentle Uterus"

Spy Family Season 1 part 2 is out in the US on Blu Ray.  I saw it at Target, but haven't found it at Walmart yet.

McDonald's is also getting in to the anime world again.  This time instead of using already established characters like Mao from the Devil is a Part Timer, someone has created a new anime short series featuring new characters including a person with a McDonald's hamburger for a face.  There are short manga scenes on the bags and I guess you can watch the shorts by scanning the QR code on the cups or bags.  Someone posted a pic of one of the new bags and I'm assuming you get a different bag every week with a new manga scene.  The one I saw on Facebook was about the new "wicked" sauce.

Japanese use of English is sometimes...lol :)

I was digging through some of the older anime themes and character songs I have had for literally years, sorting out playlists. Came across Evil Eyes by Kanna Nobutoshi, one of my favourite seiyuu back in the day. It's a character song, not a theme, but erm, it really sounds like he's singing about Evil Rice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz3tGpwsSSc

"Just look into evil rice. Evil rice..."

Classic.

On a slightly different note, I also found this one...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iloR-ElB6I

Team Rocket's original Japanese theme song (Roketto-dan yo eien ni, or Team Rocket Forever!)

The very first ever CD I had in Japanese was back in 2001 or 2002, years and years before I started getting into seiyuu or anime in Japanese. It was only much later that I discovered Kojirou (James) is voiced in Japanese by Miki Shinichirou, one of my absolute favourite seiyuu. I mean, now I listen to it, it's so obvious it's him, but back then I was just innocent.

I don't know how funny it is if you don't speak Japanese. It's pretty funny if you do.

Makes me want to watch Pokemon in Japanese...

That's a good one too.   It's really interesting to me that Tuxedo Mask/King Endymion can perform that attack in his future form alongside his current self during the Black Moon arc, but Sailor Moon can't do the same with her future self.

I found this on Youtube that has a little of Moonlight Densetsu in a lot of different languages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWbQRadlw20&list=RDhWbQRadlw20&start_radio=1&rv=FxaktdII8OI

It shows clips from all 5 seasons so there might be a couple of spoilers in there. I saw the Sailor Starlights and Sailor Galaxia

@Taffeta

I listened to both songs.   The first one does sound like he's singing "Evil rice" instead of "evil Eyes"

I've never really been in to Pokemon, but that Team Rocket theme is pretty catchy.

There's another one Miki Shinichirou did for Kojirou (James) which is basically how many (japanese) pokemon names can he force awkwardly into one song...LOL :) I'll see if I can find it...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA5D6BQ8MTE

This is it. I can pick out some familiar names like Mewtwo, Nidoran, Starmie, Zubat and Pikachu, and I know Nazonokusa (mysterious weed) is Oddish and Kusaihana (smelly flower) is Gloom. I forget who Fushigidane (isn't it strange?) is, and most of the others, but you can still tell what he's doing.

I think Lucky may be Chansey but I'm not sure.

I love the Japanese opening theme and the Team Rocket theme. I had that CD so long ago that it's almost as nostalgic as the English one, hehe :) I don't remember what else was on that CD though. Maybe a Japanese pokerap, but I've never been good at remembering most of the Japanese pokemon names.

I have a DVD for one of the series in Japanese. Forget which. Sometimes I think I'd like to watch Pokemon properly in Japanese, and sometimes it feels like a chore *heh*. I did watch a few episodes in Japan, of whatever series was airing then...

@Ponyfan, the computer at work was messing up this morning and I joked to my colleague that it needed Sailor Moon style punishment, "oshioki yo!". After which it started to work properly. xDD.

Moonlight Densetsu is also a classic. "Gomen ne, sunao ja nakute, yume no naka nara ieru..."

I've only seen a few episodes of Pokemon.  It was probably the first series that came to the US.  Some kids I was babysitting had a VHS tape with a few episodes.  I remember Ash was either going to or participating in a tournament.  There was also a human character with a literal flame or fire   inside his chest.

I love "Splash Free" from Free!  I have listened to it sometimes several times in a row.

I also like the music box version of Moonlight Densetsu because it sounds really close to the version the orgel plays in the anime.

Edit: I decided to check the Sign of Affection manga to see what the English speaking people said in that scene in the cafe.  According to the manga there was no conversation with or about them other than Kyoya telling Itsuomi to take care of the visitors' table, and Yuki wondering what language Itsuomi was talking to them in.

@Ponyfan, I love most of those Daiya themes. I remember when I first watched Daiya, it was summer and I was helping invigilate, so I had a lot of them on my playlist going into London to campus. I always associate them with that. :) (I wish they'd do the final series though, gah).

I've probably said it before, but Saiyuuki has some amazing themes, op and ed.

While I'm still going through my ancient stuff, this was what inspired me to first watch Fushigi Yuugi. Tasuki's 'fight song', I guess ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hTbjR6rym0

The video is original - the song's not in the anime but it was released on a laserdisc with a bunch of others, and the clips are from the original series. The opening theme of Yuugi is more iconic somehow though...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrz0e9BGaJs
Itooshi hito no tame ni (for the sake of the one I love/dearest person)

And this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNfbtiUzp60
I actually had a whole conversation with a work colleague about this. Thought I was the only one who remembered Weiss. Apparently not :) They had SO many song releases and live event videos as well as the anime...

Randomly on my tangent, found this video of Miki Shinichirou (Kojirou's voice artist among many many others) being interviewed about being a voice artist, and the things he says are always interesting, so I'll share it in case anyone is curious, it's only 6 minutes. It's subtitled (not brilliantly, it misses some things he says, but enough to get the gist)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkQVZPpjsPQ

He's a great voice artist but seems pretty shy irl. It's sad that he no longer does character songs - he apparently didn't think he was very good at them, although I can think of a LOT of far worse seiyuu singers :P

Back to themes, although I have turned my back on Bleach after the final arc stupids, I will always be nostalgic for some of the older themes. This one in particular...

There are some, actually. I know Pikachu's Goodbye exists on a CD. I have it in French because I bought a copy in Paris but I'm 99% sure there was an English version. Going back some time though...around 2000 probably.

I think most of the songs on them ended up in the Pokemon Live stage musical back in like 2000?

@Taffeta,

I was thinking about you when I was posting the Daiya themes :D

How could I have forgotten the opening to Yona?

Also, what's known as the melancholy version.

I know I posted this character song of Jadeite, Nephrite, Kunzite and Zoisite from Sailor Moon Crystal before, but I'm posting it again since it's one of the first songs I heard in Japanese and I fell in love with the sound of their voices and harmonies even though I can't understand a word they're signing except the few lines in English.

When I read that Okamoto Nobuhiko came to mind.  I love how versatile he is with voice work.  He's so good that it's often hard to spot that he's voicing the same characters in different  animes, but when he sings it always sounds like he's struggling a bit.

Yeah, I agree with Okamoto. Great seiyuu, not such a great singer. Albeit I can think of worse.

This one from Angelique always used to get me. Listening to it now, it doesn't sound as horrible as i remember, so I've clearly heard some worse ones in the years since, but here it is anyway. Used to give me a laugh anyway.

Esperanto, by Kisaichi Atsushi (Timka) from Angelique. Probably Etoile iirc.

Inspired now to share some Angelique songs.

The themes to Etoile are great, they're both granrodeo. Some of the character songs...less so :)

The two opening themes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4_7Q7vhCg8

As I've mentioned before, the singer for Granrodeo is Taniyama Kishou, who is also a voice artist for a range of roles. But he doesn't voice a character in Angelique - I think Granrodeo was chosen because it was a neoromance series and Taniyama was involved in Kiniro no Koruda, which is another one.

For fun here's Koyasu Takehito as Olivie from Angelique as well. Honestly one of the most interesting characters in the series - the guardian of dreams.

The Yona themes are amazing :) I think they carry extra weight when you understand the emotion of the series though. Speaking off, new chapter probably around now. After the last one...yeah. Anyway. Back on topic for anime. ;)

Since you mentioned Yona, Ponyfan, here's Kija's seiyuu, Morita Masakazu, performing a song from Bleach live with another voice artist from the series. Morita in blue. Morita is also Tanba in Daiya.

helps to add the link lol.

Listening to that song makes me wish Tanba had a character song for Daiya.

I found this Free! voice actor thing where all of the main characters are doing a scene live.  According to the comments Haru's va is the one in the back between Rin and Makoto's vas.

Here's one that includes Haru's va

I don't know if it's interesting if you haven't seen Free!

The Boy and the Heron won Best Animated Flim at the Oscars last night.

Suzume comes out on Blu ray tomorrow in the US.

I picked up Suzume, but haven't watched it yet.  Interestingly it's my first Steel Book Blu Ray/DVD.   I picked up the movie at Walmart and they have an exclusive deal on the Steel Book version.  I checked another Walmart today and didn't see the standard version at all. The Target app says it's not in stores, but you can order it online.

I found these old Cartoon Network Toonanmi ads for Sailor Moon on Youtube.  I think it's interesting how they were marketing the show.

Also a Sailor Says segment.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PmrmNeEOSw

These were put at the end of the original airing of some episodes to make the show "educational."

Oh yeah, the 80s/90s were all about "educational" TV.

I picked up the second part of Spy X Family but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.  Also picked up Bluelock, because it looked interesting.  I noticed at my Walmart they moved the Dragonball sets to another section.  I hope that means we'll actually be getting something that could be considered variety now.

I still need to catch up with the second season of SpyxFamily.
I think Apothecary Diaries has one episode left. I have the books now though, and know where they pick up, so it's fine :)

Spoiler
I'm actually feeling a bit sorry for Lakan, although he's partly to blame, it's not all his fault. Though more sorry for Fengxian of course.

Not that it's anime per se, but we are almost through the live action of Avatar the Last Airbender.

It's not bad...  I mean, when Netflix takes an animated series that was 24 episodes long and condenses it down into a 8 episode season, it's going to take some storyline out, but... it's reasonable.  It's easy enough to digest for the average TV watcher who isn't a huge fan of anime.  who knows, maybe some of them will give the animated version a chance!  I mean, One Piece was the same way... I feel the same way about Battle Angel Alita too.

The new Black Butler arc comes out in three days. I am so excited, but the new style seems somewhat too soft for Sebastian especially. Ciel looks fine. I hope we see more Grell, I love her.  ;)

Crunchyroll did some kind of update recently. I logged on today and got a "is this really you" email even though I was using the same computer and equipment (router, Internet box etc..) that I always use.  I always delete cookies from my browser and start a new session before I start streaming.  I'm hoping that the update is the reason I got the email as I haven't had an issue with deleting my history before streaming before.  I do remember getting a "is this really you" email before but I can't remember if it was because Crunchyroll updated or if it was because I switched browsers or equipment.

I need to catch up on Spy Family.  I'm pretty sure the last one I saw was the one about the penguins.

I watched the second episode of A Sign of Affection.  There was a moment where English speakers were speaking very slowly, but at least the subtitles matched what they were saying this time.

Spoiler
I know it's common for anime characters to have unusual hair colors, but it looks like Yuki's natural color is brown and she dyes it pink?  It was brown in the flashback to her in elementary and high school.

Since we see things from Yuki's perspective, I think she doesn't get why Oshi says and does the things he does, but I think he's trying to look out for her.

I'm about halfway through Sailor Moon S (that's the third season). It's the season that Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus appear.
