The pony that means the most to me
« on: March 16, 2022, 03:53:50 PM »
Hey all! I know ponies all have a special place in our lives but this cute little G3 pony really helped me through some tough times.

I had a pretty rocky childhood - I won’t delve into details but in short my family and I fled the country we were living in due to a domestically violent situation.

I got this pony when I was 3 years old, and have held onto it since. It was one of the only things I could take with me when we left.

Recently I found a NIB version, and I had to buy it!!!! I’m so happy to have a boxed version of this pony. On the right is the pony I’ve kept since I was little.

Do any of you guys have certain ponies that mean a lot to you? I’d love to hear about it!

G1 Baby Firefly.

She was a gift from my grandmother and my first pony. Mine is unique because she has a big ink stain on her face when a pen leaked in my toy chest. I could fix her up, but I don't want to. She's the only pony I actually remember getting. My childhood collection is small (only 5) and even my favorite pony Raincurl I don't remember getting or who she's from.

G1 Baby Cuddles was my favorite from the cartoon, and my favorite pony in my heart. I love G2 Ivy, too, for being my first pony ever, and G3 Silver Glow for being the first pony I knew I HAD to have.

Glory was my first pony and still pretty special to me.  She is the only pony I keep in my room.  She sits on a shelf.

It’s funny because when my siblings visit, they know her name from childhood.  Generally… they don’t know the names of the other ponies they grew up with.  I think the other two they know are Bubbles and Cotton Candy.

For me it's Starcatcher, the one with the blue fabric wings.

A childhood friend of mine had her and I was so jealous, and one Christmas I unwrapped a present and there she was! I found out not much later that my friend's dad had actually given her to me. I'm still not sure if it was a weird joke, or if he was just trying to get rid of some of his kids' stuff, I don't even know if he asked her first, but I felt kind of bad. To this day, I still don't feel like that Starcatcher is actually mine, in a sense. She's one of the only ponies I don't keep in a display case with the others, but instead keep in my room, solely so I can quickly grab her in case of a fire or something.

Plus she's just a super pretty pony!

Rainbow Magic :)

I know this is a familiar story to most people now, but when my mother was diagnosed with blood cancer in 1991, she and Dad decided, as I was old enough to understand the situation, they should buy me a pony to help cheer me up...or some such thing like that. Dad took me to town on the Saturday, 14th December, and I made my choice between tropical Surfing Days and rainbow curl Rainbow Magic.

I picked the latter because her story said she could grant wishes. And I wished for Mum to get well. I also offered to leave the pony with her at the hospital for luck, although Mum said she might get damaged.

She's a very special pony to me and recently I finally got her backcard again, with that special story on it.

Another one who comes close to this is Sunburst, the mountain boy - because he was the pony I had when my sister was born. ;)

I have a few: Newborn Twins Fleecy & Fluffy (G1, changed Fleecy's name to Flocky, a variant on her German Name, so as not to confuse her with the Pretty Pal Baby, & will NOT use Bunkie as a name). They were originally a Christmas present on a Christmas Day I was ill with a bad cold. Those two cheered me up no end & were my first Newborns!!!

Twisty Tail (G1, UK/ Euro Trotting pose) & Starcatcher (G3). Both went with me to parties for YEARS, Starcatcher as a backpack, Twisters as a Pony. I made a party outfit for Twisters too, while I bought a little dog dress for Starcatcher. So obviously, many memories were made.

Butterscotch (G1, I THINK Concave foot???). My first ever Pony, & she sat rather neglected for a bit until I got more into Ponies due to collection potential. She became my Head Pony, & still holds that role now after Majesty came. Still, her being my first makes her that bit more special

Twilight Sparkle & Starlight Glimmer (G4). Twilight Sparkle's struggle to find her place, difficulty with making friends & so on in the early seasons made her close to my heart, as did her love of books. Starlight Glimmer, with her bad past & long redemption, filled the gap left after TS became a princess (because IRL things like that don't happen to folks like me). However, getting to know great characters, without being a great character myself, is something both she & I do. This was true when I socialised, & is also true on forums & Discords. We both still stumble, but are both slowly improving. Anyway, I relate to both characters a good deal, which makes them special.

Trixiebelle (G2). When I went to the parties I was the one who cheered people up, helped people out, & made people laugh. i have a similar rep on Discord servers too. And Trixiebelle has the court jester role in the G2s, putting smiles on others' faces with her jokes & helpfulness. As such, I also relate to her & how she's portrayed. I picked my Mascots for a reason

Sparkleworks (G3). Aside from blue, my favourite colours are bright, vivid colours, & one of those is orange. To me Sparky is the realist to Sunny Daze's constant optimism. She deals with fire, so has been burned multiple times. She's a cautions Pony because of that, & will evaluate the risks of every situation. I've been metaphorically burned in my past too, so can be quite cautious myself. Before Bakana entered my life, Sparky was the character I most empathised with.

Eventually, I'll Customise versions of Ponybookworm too, so she can add to this list. I'm working on it, I swear!!!
My Mascots (so far): Twisty Tail, G2 Trixiebelle, Starcatcher, Twilight Sparkle. All variants & pictures of these are appreciated. Piccies courtesy of Griffin, Blumiere, Littlebabyribbon, & Starscout

Oh, this is hard. There's a few for me.

I think I have to include Rosedust, Sunny Daze, Wisteria, Aquamarine (name of custom), and my OC, Rhapsody.

Here's a pic of me as a child with Aquamarine, up on top (there's another custom I got at the 2008 fair held lower). She became one of my fav OC's to play with!

Rhapsody is self-explanatory, she was my childhood OC, inspired by The Last Unicorn film and since her whole story is that she was "the last winged unicorn." If only Friendship is Magic existed when I was still a kid so that I would know to call her an alicorn!

As for the others; Wisteria was my first ever pony, so she's special for obvious reasons, and Sunny Daze was who I considered my active pony. I took her outside with me EVERYWHERE so she's hilariously beat up from gong down countless park slides with me. My sister braided her tail back then too and its still braided, so I also think of her when I see Sunny Daze.

Finally, Rosedust has always been my favorite character, since as a kid my absolute fav thing to do was watch The End of Flutter Valley arc episodes over and over. I made my friends watch it with me too and we all played pretending to be flutter ponies, my best friend was always Morning Glory and I was Rosedust. She sits on my bookshelf so I get to see her every day.

Well, this is hard, but if I could only choose one, I would have to say Tootsie. I got her unexpectedly shortly before Christmas; my dad had taken each of us kids Christmas shopping separately that year and I had gone first. When my next sister got to go, he had let her get a pony. I wasn't really jealous or anything...just happy for her that we had a new pony in our herd. But when the 3rd sister went, she also got a pony and brought one home for me too, because I hadn't gotten one when it was my turn. It was Tootsie. I think the story came out that my sister picked her out for me because she was the ugliest one she could find so that she wouldn't regret not getting the one she picked for me. Or maybe she was just mad at me that day. But I was delighted with her and loved her instantly!! She was always special to me because she was from my dad and such an unexpected surprise.

BTW I love hearing all these fun stories!

Looks like you took great care of tropical surprise!

Mine was Merriweather. I got her unexpectedly as a gift from a child who's birthday *I* attended. Sadly, she was destroyed with "make up" by my sister. I gave MW to someone on this forum, with the hopes she'd get a nice restoration.  ^.^

I guess that would be G1 Surprise. Unfortunately I don't have my childhood one. But I really loved just playing with her. Though I like Cotton candy and I think she was my very first pony. I do miss them but I guess I appreciate them more now.
