Pony Corral / Re: The Fakie Appreciation Thread! Show us yer Fakies!
« on: October 19, 2018, 09:32:55 PM »
I have never been a fan of fakies and didn't collect them (except for the rare exceptions I posted earlier in this thread).  That was until I started browsing this thread again.  There are so many amazing and strange fakies out there!

I don't like fakies, and don't collect them - if I come by them they usually end up at a charity shop. But I have two which I have kept. One is one of those colour babies, her colour scheme is like watercolor Misty so I called her Baby Misty. I don't have a picture of her but she seems to be in peruvian baby CC's pose o.O. She is orangey with whiteish hair.

I also have this one, which I admit, I do rather like xD.

I have a lot of them, but no recent pictures, this one is from 2014, I think, my fakie calfs! I have a white fakie of the panda bear as well but I don't think I have a picture of her o.O

OMG Taffeta and Wildshadow where did you get those MLP Friend fakies?  That sheep and those calves are so adorable and unique!  I would LOVE to have ones like those, or any other MLP Friend mold fakies!  I will spend my life searching for them.  XD

Do either of you mind if I save your photos just for personal reference?

I had a little ceramic unicorn in the 90s that looked just like this minus the chest and back hair

So did I...mine was the top to a small accessory or jewellery pot, though. And I think she had a feathery tail and a painted rainbow mane. But the pose is very similar. I guess it could also be similar to the baby horse keypers but they're a bit more chunky and lacking in unicorn horn.

Chest and back hair. Ok then. :)

I did too!  Although mine wasn't on a jewellery pot thing.  I may still have mine.  If it's not too hard to dig out I'll look for him.  But he may be packed away too far back in my never ending pile of junk.  Or I might have sold him I can't remember.  XD

Something exciting arrived at 9pm last night!

I ordered this Lanard set on Amazon last week and last night they came home! Three of the ponies in the set were randomized (the large one, the upper left and lower right small ones), so the suspense of which ones I'd get was pretty exciting. I ended up with the large orange one, small sitting orange one, and small blue one. Alternatively, there was a large yellow one, a small sitting yellow one, and a small pink one. Here's the picture from the listing so you can see the ones I didn't end up with:

This was the first time I've bought fakies outside of thrifting them, and shopping at Dollar Tree. All my fakies up until now had been just a few dollars at the most, but I spent $19.99 on this set. My personal favorite in this set is the purple one, her shade of purple is so uniquely dark, and it looks lovely with her pink and gray hair. Plus she has a skull on her.
Oh wow those guys are so cool!  I want!  :D

I also really want a concerned fakie.  And in the future I'll be on the lookout for a Princess Rinse n Spit.  And I'm always on the lookout for more newborn mold fakies.

I think now I want to go see if I can find my box of fakies.  They've got to be around somewhere.  If I find them, pictures will be forthcoming!  I don't know if I have any really interesting ones, but I know I have quite a few!

What a beautiful MIB one mlp4me!  Wow that's quite an army Tuneful!  Taffeta, the hair on yours is just gorgeous!  I don't have her, thus I want her.  I didn't have any Perfume Puffs as a kid but I did have one of the Little Litters cats that has a tail made of that same type of hair.  I found it quite pleasing to touch, it's so soft.

Pony Corral / Re: What Ponies Won You Over?
« on: October 19, 2018, 07:38:46 PM »
Like many others, at first I didn't like the G2 ponies at all.  They were so different it was just not right.  But I bought a few just for the experience of opening a brand new pony again.  (Something I thought I'd never have a chance to do.  3 more generations + repos later boy was I wrong!)  I wasn't going to collect them.  I think it was Petal Blossom who won me over.  I remember just holding her and looking at her, and the little details and her specific shades of body and hair made me really like her!  So then I collected them.

And recently I've had a renewed interest in them as well because when I showed my boyfriend my pony collection he thought the G2s were the cutest.  It's made me appreciate them more from a fresh perspective.  Seeing them the way he sees them, not as someone who grew up with G1 so will forever compare them to the first ponies but as someone just looking at a bunch of colorful toy horses with no prior biases and saying "yup, those are cute!"

I was totally not into G4 at first, wasn't even going to buy a single one.  Then when I bought a bunch of G1 ponies from one particular eBay seller they threw in an extra - a little G4 book.  I saw Rainbow Dash on the cover and remembered her from G3.  I had always really liked her name.  I saw that she had an updated symbol, and I thought it looked really cool and creative.  Much more unique than her G3 counterpart.  It was a very slow gradual process from then, but Rainbow Dash slowly worked her way into my brain.  I bought the Ty plushie of her on a whim, then got Applejack since she was so close to her G1 ancestor, who had always been one of my favorites.  Then I decided I'd just collect the Ty plushie set.  But slowly, they still kept working their way in further.  Then I got the Rainbow Dash and Applejack brushables.  I was just gonna have those two.  .... Yeah right.  You all know how that goes.  It wasn't long till I was totally hooked.  Now I have a growing collection of G4's along with all the other generations.  :)

Pony Corral / Re: Who was the first pony you bought as an adult?
« on: October 19, 2018, 05:13:42 PM »
I really really wish I could remember!     There really was no gap for me between buying them as a kid to play with and buying them as an adult to collect.  There were times when my focus was on other things and not laser focused on MLP, but I never really stopped.  The point where I stopped playing with toys and started collecting toys is too gradual to pinpoint a time or a pony.  But the thing is, I can distinguish between my "childhood collection" and later ones, the ones I consider childhood ponies are G1s that were bought for me new in stores, then I started buying them myself from flea markets and garage sales and thrift stores.  But even though I can tell which ponies were bought second hand, I can't for the life of me remember which pony I bought first second hand, that time in my late childhood/early teens all blurs together.

I remember clearly buying Brush n Grow Curly Locks and a couple other ponies at a garage sale.  They weren't the first second hand ponies I'd ever gotten but it's the earliest I remember.  I can't remember who the others were but Curly Locks stood out because she was the first Brush n Grow Pony I'd ever seen, I had fun pulling her tail out and twisting her head to pull it back in.  Seems to me I got a Fairy Tail Bird at the same time - I also collect those - but I can't remember for sure.  At that time I used to go to flea markets and garage sales with my best friend and we collected ponies together.  When she finally lost interest they all became mine.  XD

I remember kinda getting out of ponies for a bit in my mid teens.  I say kinda because I never really got tired of ponies, my focus was just on other things going on in my life and other interests.  I remember being brought sharply back to ponies when they were brought up on an unrelated message board.  That's when I found out there were other collectors and found a MLP mailing list, found ebay, and did some trading.  That's when I started picking up every pony I found in the wild, including duplicates, so I could trade them.  I guess that's when I started collecting for collecting's sake.  But still, I can't remember who I got first at that time.

Pony Corral / Re: New MLP collector site. New Question
« on: October 19, 2018, 03:34:41 PM »
I am really excited by this!  I have my own database of my collection that I made up many years ago.  Entering new ponies into the database is an important part of the spa day ritual for me.  I'm such a nerd when it comes to putting things in databases.  This would be so awesome because it's shared!  Other collectors can see what I have and, even better, what I need and have for trade.  That would be so useful!  I'm definitely on board and looking forward to watching this website develop.  I hope it becomes a big success!

The only thing I find confusing is what you call "mold" I call "species" (earth, Pegasus, Flutter, dragon, dog, etc.)  What I call "mold" is what position a pony is in,  (the Firefly mold, the Moondancer mold, Collector mold, etc.)  I dunno maybe that's just me, and maybe I'm just nit-picky.  I've been called that before.  ;)  But pose and mold are the same thing to me so I got confused at first.  I figured it out though!

And I agree, baby ponies are a different character than the adult with the same name.  The only time I'd throw babies in with mothers is when constructing an army, because in an army the more the better for taking over the world, muahahaha!  ;)

Is Pinkie's tongue really that important that they had to make it move as well?
I didn't notice that at first, I had to go back and look again.  ROFL!   :lmao:

I wish these were in the US, I love that Rainbow Dash!  And I'd want that Pinkie Pie just for comedic effect, it's hilarious!

i really like her. she reminds me of bubbles with her colour combo :)

Have her!  She is badly in need of a spa day as I got her and a bunch of other G4's in a second hand lot not to long ago.  I really need to do a major pony spa day soon.  I really like her color combo.  She does remind me of bubbles, who is one of my favorites!

Pony Corral / Re: Funny Fakie stories
« on: October 19, 2018, 01:37:09 PM »
Thinking a G1 is a fakie, that would be blasphemy in this house.  LOL  ;)

I've got two fakie stories, but I don't know if they're funny.  Maybe you had to be there.

When I was little I saw the Loving Family Ponies in a store and fell instantly in love.  I wanted them SO bad.  So for Christmas I asked for "The My Little Ponies that come with a mom and a dad and a baby."  On Christmas morning I woke up to a fakie set of a mom and a baby.  (I think they were Remco ponies)  I was so disappointed.  :(  I thought maybe Santa was stupid and couldn't tell a real MLP if it bit him in the butt.  :P

Many years later I found out my mom had tried very hard to find them but the were sold out, so she did the best she could.  I guess she didn't realize that I would have rather had just any real ponies she could find rather than fakies.  XD  (Now I have the complete Sweet Celebrations Family, including the UK sister, and slowly working on the other two families so I am happy)

I still kept those two with my ponies even though I didn't like them.  Until in my teens I did a comprehensive cleaning and cataloging of my collection and tossed those two in a box, where, presumably they still are with a bunch of other fakies I've gotten in lots and what not.  When I find that box I plan to give them all away to a thrift store.

Fakies are now banned from my collection.  ... Except for two...

Going to garage sales and flea markets is something me and my mom have long loved to do together.  I look for ponies and such, she looks for dishes, planters and such.  One time we came across this fakie.  Not sure of the brand but it's blue with a yellow molded on saddle and bridle, and a heart on it's forehead.  When you squeeze it the heart lights up and it makes whinnying and galloping noises.  My mom thought it was so cute and started playing with it.  I admitted it wasn't ugly, although told my mom she was a dork.  ;)  Mom said I should get it and keep it, so I did since my mom liked it so much.  Some time later I found another one in light green and kept that one too.  They sit on a shelf with real MLPs and I call them my "Honorary Ponies"  I consider them as belonging to my mom, but they live in my herd.

Oooh wow I didn't know there was another brushable hippogriff besides Princess Skystar!  Silverstream is pretty!  Is she only available in this set and not as a single?  Figures Hasbro would make me buy another set with a pony I don't need just to get one I do need.  They love doing that don't they?  :P  But in any case I must have her!  I like that her hooves and talons are painted a different color, unlike Skystar.

Excuse me if I sound clueless, I've been out of the loop of new things for a bit, I'm trying to catch up.   :lookround:

I’m pretty SilverStream and Sandbar will only be released in a set with other ponies. I saw a pic of a Rainbow/Sandbar set. I don’t like how they Hasbro almost always includes a new character with a repeat Mane 6. I'd love to see the other students.

Ponyfan

Yeah it seems like it.  I've seen that pic too.  Figures they'd to that.  I don't like how they do that either.  So far the only recent things I need are SilverStream and Sandbar, and they both come in sets with ponies I don't need.

Oh well, I already have a box full of G4 duplicates I don't need thanks to a big lot I bought a while ago, so what's two more to toss in the box?  :P  I'm at least happy that there is a new hippogriff and boy pony for me to covet.  I do love hippogriffs and boys.

I love sea ponies too so I wish they'd make more of those.  SilverStream in sea pony form would be nice.  And I really wish they made griffin toys, since I LOVE griffins!  Why not make toys of those?  To my knowledge the only griffin toy is a blind bag figure of Gilda, which I got just because I love griffins.  They could at least make more blind bag griffins since they already have the mold.  But I really want brushable size griffins.

Off Topic / Re: FAO Schwarz to make a return

Oh cool!  I have fond memories of going to FAO Schwarz as a kid, I was sad to see them go.  Too bad I'm in the middle of the US so not anywhere near any planned stores.  But who knows, maybe if they are successful there will be more in the future.  I'd love to be able to shop there again, especially with TRU being gone.  Which is really sad, I have fun memories of there too.

She's new to me.  I don't know much about the G2's who were not sold in the US.  I'd very much like to collect them, there are some really pretty ones I've seen, but right now G1 is still my priority.  I really like Golden Glow now that I've seen her, I hope I can have her some day!

Ohh this is hard to choose!  Masquerade has to be my first choice since he (yes, my Masq is a he :P ) was my first TE and I remember getting him as a kid and absolutely loving him.  Then Tic-Tac-Toe because I had Baby Tic-Tac-Toe as a kid and she has always been one of my favorites and I desperately wanted her mother for a very long time.  Didn't get her until much later as an adult, found her at a flea market and was so excited to finally have her.  Galaxy because I remember finding her at a flea market and really loving her look, she became a favorite and her and Masq are together.  But then I also love Mimic because she is so pretty and I love her name.  Why does she have to be so crazy expensive!  I still don't have her.  And Fizzy is so pretty too.  I could go on!  I just really like TE ponies.  But I guess my first three have to be Masquerade, Tic-Tac-Toe, and Galaxy.

I have a modest small army.  I have my childhood original and an upgrade, plus the movie version.  And I have my childhood original baby and upgrade, if we're counting those.  I have the Loyal Subjects on the way, (just ordered a bunch of those) and I hope to have the 35th repo as soon as I can get my paws on them.  I'm debating getting the tiny book retros as well.

Like many, she was a childhood favorite because of Rescue at Midnight Castle, which I had on VHS and watched over and over again.  ^_^

I LOVE the pony friends!  Although ponies of course have always had the main attraction, I have always really loved the idea of other animals in the pony universe.  But it's so hard to choose a favorite!  In my original childhood collection I only had ZigZag, Kingsley (who I called Paws cuz I forgot the name), and Baby Leafy.  I got lucky finding Baby Hoppy and Baby Pockets together second hand in my teens, and also added Spunky around that time, (who I called Nacho since I didn't know her name at the time, and pretended that Zigzag was a boy and had a crush on her, hehe!)  I have always very badly wanted Creamsicle because I thought she was beautiful and a friend of mine as a kid had her.  I have just recently finally added her to my collection!  I very badly want the ones I don't have, but most of them are the crazy expensive ones, so it will be a long while before I can complete the sets.

I guess if I had to pick I'll say ZigZag and Creamsicle are my favorites.
