Any potters?
« on: November 17, 2015, 02:18:55 PM »
I've joined the local artist guild's ceramic studio this fall and its been such a great new hobby!
I've been getting comfortable throwing at the wheel and I've started churning out a ton of work. Some bowls, weird cups, a pair of mugs, a small pie dish and a plate! If I remember I'll try to post a pic once they come out of the kiln. They're mostly asymmetrical pieces but I like that about them and there's even a few I'm legitimately proud of!
I've been thinking about buying my own pints of glaze since the ones at our studio aren't my favorite. Looking at all the options has got my head spinning, there's so many possibilities!

Are theyre any other potters around the arena? I'd love to hear about/see your work! It's been really neat to see how different every potters work is. What kinds of glazes do you like? I'm just learning about all of this so Im like a sponge right now :P

My husband went to school for ceramics. I'm not a potter, but I do appreciate the beauty! I really want him to get back into it  (he has taken a hiatus to do large scale metal sculpture) because it makes great gifts for the holidays ;)

I've done ceramics and pottery before, but it's been a very long time.  It's a ton of fun though!

I am hoping with in the next few years to get back into molding and casting, never was fond of the wheel but love what folks can do on it.  You must share some photos!

I should be picking up some of my first round of pieces from the kiln tomorrow :) I will definitely post it!
The studio Im a part of is pretty small w/participants, with a really large kiln to fill so we have to wait a while between firings. But this should be stuff I threw my first 2 weeks of class... Im sure in another few weeks after the next glaze fire, I'll have more impressive stuff to show off :P
